Teaching Conceptual Physics in a homeschool co-op to 12 HS aged students with varying levels of mathematical and conceptual skill sets. Having tools like this at our disposal is priceless. Thank you, Paul.

Old video but isnt the answer at 3:22 supposed to be 100 m? Cuz your supposed to multiply the average speed by 40 s (which is the time it took) not 100 s.

I figured out the problem by using d=vot+1/2at squared so really d=1/2at squared acceleration is 3 half of that is 1.5 then you multiply that by 4 (time) squared = 16 multiply 16 by 1.5 and get 24. That's how I figured it out

is there anyway to ever find out the answers to the questions he asks at the end of the Video. I think i did it right. I came up with 28m

Shouldn't it be 'TOTAL TIME' aswell, under 'TOTAL DISTANCE'? Or well.. In both those equations you make use of the total time it took to travel a certain distance. So in that sense you would have to change both of those values to 'TOTAL TIME', which would not add that much value/ease. :P

D = 48. Distance equals Velocity multiplied by Time. D = VT

@jason-xn9le 4 жыл бұрын
has to be 48m
@armyfreak9389
@armyfreak9389 Жыл бұрын
@@jason-xn9le It isn't. D=VT is only for moving at a constant speed. In this problem we are measuring the biker as he is accelerating constantly down the hill. So, his initial velocity is 0 (V0). His final velocity is 12 (Vf). The time it took him to cover the distance was 4 seconds. So, the formula we need to use is V0*T+1/2a*T^2. We must now solve for acceleration. If we look at the formula for finding final velocity, we can use basic mathematical principles to figure out acceleration. Vf=V0+aT or 12=0+a*4. Divide both sides by 4 and we have a=3. So we go back to our original formula plug in 3. 0*4+1/2(3)(4)^2 -> 0+(1.5)(16)= 24 so D=24.
