“Due to variability in projects…” That’s exactly my point. Haven’t you noticed that we have reduced the amount of code we write over the years? We were using all sorts of libraries, tools, and services. They were not AI! So, I think this 40-60% ratio is not quite valid anymore. Because, we don’t write that much code to get 10-20% requirements and 10-20% design. If you have a bad design, we might have to write 40-60% code for sure. 😅 And, getting averages for these type of topics doesn’t really work. If you think about complex projects, there is a lot of designing involved that code. You can generate code or even get them somewhere, but not designs.

I think there will be more demand for humanities and social sciences graduates than STEM graduates in the near future. Yes you can laugh now, but you may not laugh when and if this happens (lol). I'm not saying this Mark Cuban said it in an interview with Bloomberg. Reasons are... all that a CS degree can provide a student with are the tools needed to solve a problem, which are merely a means to an end. And all that jazz is going to be done by AI as you said. So what's left? Deciding which ends to reach in the first place though, is something no AI can do (not even system 2 thinking), making moral and ethical judgement, reasoning not just rationally but emotionally and importantly critical thinking... guess who has this kind of skill set? it is not STEM it is the arts (well maybe not the drawing kind of arts but the social sciences and the humanities like philosophy).

I don’t have much opinions about them. AGI is what we have now. All the AI stuff we see is Artificial General Intelligence. ASI is the one we aim for, but far beyond that for now. For an AI to be Artificial Super Intelligence, it needs far more improvements to the existing ones to be independent.

Another thing that is misleading is telling students that "Software Engineering" is an Engineering paradigm. It is just a name used for a job position. Not enough Engineering principles involved to state as a field of Engineering, unlike Computer Engineering. You are limited to a very little scope when you focus on just Software Engineering.

AI will make the jobs of software engineers pretty easy... this will inturn give more power to the employers to reduce the salary paid to engineers and less power to engineers to demand higher salaries. Not to mention how many software engineers are waiting outside jobless who are desperate to get a job even for a very low salary... Also AI in next 5 years could replace most of the engineer roles in tech, atleast 70% since Tech is improving so fast , faster than anyone thinks.. 😂 AI wont totally replace engineers but still the number of jobs available outside will be greatly reduced. AI will also create new jobs but overall it could have more disadvantages than advantages interms of the creation of new jobs. If you want to survive you got to be a master mind in tech, only that category of people will able to keep their jobs atleast in the unforseen long run.
