Although the song is credited to both Lennon and McCartney, Paul wrote it (originally as "Hey, Jules") to comfort Lennon's son Julian after John left Julian's mother in favor of Yoko Ono. The soap opera aspects aside, it's on just about every list of all-time best rock'n'roll songs.
