Clutching the hands of your parents, you approach the entrance of your favorite place. Today is your birthday. “Get whatever you want”...wait for it...huh, nothing else? You look up, into the warm eyes of your parents. They smile at you and say, “yes, we mean anything. No limit on price. But please, only one thing.” Excited, you dash into the store and towards the first aisle, dragging the hands of your parents. Behind, you hear them laughing, and telling you to slow down. As you browse through what it seems to be endless aisles of toys, you look around and you see the waves of children. They look just like you. To your left, a girl clutches a doll and the latest My Little Pony set. To your right, you see a mom and her three boys. The youngest is crying and whining about wanting the latest Star Wars LEGO set, but the mom continues to desperately explain that she couldn't afford it. Meanwhile, the two older boys are busy clashing with Lightsabers. As you walk past them, the voice of the mother is overwhelmed by the sounds of nearby happy children...but you managed to hear one thing: “Please baby, I know it's your birthday but can you get something else?”. Continuing on your conquest to find your perfect gift, you finally reach the aisle you’ve been looking for. But even then, the possibilities seem endless. You brush through hundreds of boxes placed side by side, still unsure of what exactly you want. Then finally, one of them catches your attention. You pick it up and shake it. It was the sound of excitement - along with the sounds of happy children and music in the background. Then, you look at the price tag. One hundred dollars. "That's okay. If that’s what you really want, we will pay for it," says the voice from behind. Yup, this is exactly what I want. As you and your parents walk towards the registers, clutching the box, you see the mom and her three boys waiting in line nearby. The two boys are still battling with the Lightsabers. The youngest one is holding the hand of his mother while sniffing in tears. You see what he holds on the other hand - nothing. You gently nudge your parents, and they bend down to hear what you have to say. They nod and release your hand. You run back to your favorite aisle and place the box back. You run to the nearby aisle and snatch that Star Wars LEGO set. As you run back to the line your parents stood in, you notice that they aren’t there. You scan the lines. Oh, there they are, standing next to the mother of three. As you approach them, the young boy looks up and notices you. He sees the box you’re holding and it appears as if he is about to burst into tears once again. You hold the LEGO box out, in front of him. “It’s for you.” His face slowly brightens, shining brighter than the ceiling lights. He drops the box and hugs you tightly. You can still feel the slightly wet tears left on his face dripping down on you. But you smile too. The mother continues to thank your parents. As you leave Toys R Us empty-handed on your birthday, your smile slowly fades, just like the music of the store within. Your parents continue to chat with the mother while her boys are happy. You see the young boy staring at the LEGO set in awe, and you can’t help but smile just a little. On the way home sitting in the backseat of the car, your parents ask you about getting another present. “No...it’s fine. I’m happy that I made someone else happy.” But clearly, it’s not fine and you’re not entirely happy. Your parents look up in the rear mirror and they can see that too. The moment you get home, you run up to your room. What was I thinking? I have nothing for my birthday. You plop down in your bed, in tears. As you close your eyes, you can see the image of the young boy staring in awe at his Star Wars LEGO set. Then the image of him opening the box floats into your mind. You begin to cry. *knock knock* Mom comes in, attempting to comfort you. She reminds you that your friends would be coming over in a few hours for the birthday party. She asks you if you would like to help her prepare the cake in an hour or so. “Daddy is out to get milk at the grocery store.” (haha...). You come downstairs to the kitchen to wait. An hour later and he still hasn’t returned yet. You decide to go watch TV on the couch. Cartoon Network. Eventually, though, you hear the car engine outside and footsteps by the front door. Dad walks in with the milk and a large box. Come _____, please help me carry this box. You run up to him and grab the box. You can feel something moving inside. "Well, don't just stare at it, why do you open it?" You slowly lift the lid up. Inside, a small golden puppy looks up at you. It turns out, the mother of the three boys works at an animal shelter.

This reminds me of when I was in eight grade, about to graduate, and me and my class were coming back from a trip. We were in NYC and will driving back home, we saw two freshly shut down Toys R Us. I was sad, but I had my friends. Now, as a senior with no one left, I am hit with such intense nostalgia. Now that sadness of my lost childhood, fun, and friends that I felt back down I feel now, but just 2x harder. I now feel empty and numb because of the toll school takes on me + adult responsibilities such as college. But this video reminds how much I miss those times and how I'd do anything to be that happy again, but I know moments like that are like precious gems, never to be repeated again.

This is nostalgic, Horrifying, saddening, amusing, historical, and hysterical all at the same time. I have only experienced this feeling once before so far. It was when I tried making food while studying for history class, I caught my book on fire accidentally, then dropped it, on my foot, while running around as if I were a salted snail, I wasn't even on fire I just thought I was. After I put it out I found it extremely amusing. However I needed a new history book.

Currently watching in 2022, and this video brought tears to my eyes, I remember running around the aisles getting lost amongst the electronics section and being amazed at the Xboxes, the DVDs and playing around with the rideable cars. I remember this one part of the store that i would never see as it was too far away from where my parents would go. I still have a little batman computer i got from there when I was 7. When they shut down, at first I was mostly unscathed but it hit me eventually which brings me to today. I never knew how much I would miss going to that place and the last day i went it was almost heartbreaking to see it. The giant promotional poster was still up but the shelves were filled with the random stuff that kids would put back because they couldn't afford it. Everything was mostly empty and it shakes me how empty and unnatural it felt. They were selling just about everything, there was even a sign to buy the building that housed the place. At first it was a spirit halloween which I predict was what happened to a majority of the abandoned toys r us' that eventually moved over to the christian store across the street. Now it's a hardware store and a boot barn and i dare not go in there. If i were i would probably collapse in tears over what has become of the abode of memories from my childhood. I'm sorry it was long but this moved me

I can sort of understand someone disliking this to fix YT algorithm to prevent this going on their recommendation possibly because of the creepy unnerving images videos similar to this one popping up

This makes me so sad... it reminds me of my life as a young kid playing kickball with friends, playing Minecraft pocket edition, buying nerf guns and bullet packs, and having way less care about stuff. Growing up is not as fun as it seemed.

Camdino playing handball with the bois. Playing Pokémon with the bois. Sneaking in your DS lite to school. Sitting in the corner of a social event and reading Harry Potter in the corner. Everyone bringing their DS and mariokart on the school field trip to play a group track on the way there. Wishing you were the older kids who could look down on the younger kids, only to realize as an older kid you should’ve just acted young.

I barely had the privilege to going to Toys-R-Us. I know I couldn’t have everything, but I could’ve at least experienced what everyone else felt when they entered into the store.
