As someone who went straight into the deep end of ‘Snowden-level’ privacy and security and got burned out due to the inconvenience, I completely agree with your re-evaluation and I hope this spell good things for the channel and the community going forwards.

Wow this is great news. The new direction of the channel sounds amazing. I had commented in a previous video something very similar to what you explained now regarding striking a balance between privacy and convenience. Really looking forward to the new episodes in the coming months. Thank you for sharing all of this invaluable information with the world. Godspeed.

Great to have you back. I really look forward to your upcoming content! The balance of security/convenience is sometimes hard to find but my experience has certainly lead me to realize that if you are not Edward Snowden, keeping a reasonable level of convenience actually brings a broader and more frequent use of security. I totally agree with where you are going with your content. Great job!

I think your new startup idea is fascinating and definitely something I’ve pondered about. It will be interesting to see the MVP you develop and how much complexity you can abstract away from general user experience.

#GlobalWalkOut If we _all_ leave together, BigTech and BigBiz and _independent_ creators/entrepreneurs will begin to listen. I had to leave my family for almost 20 years to get them to be nice to me. After 20 years, I could tell that they were truly sorry. It was worth it.

Hey Sun, good to hear from you. I loved your content so far and it really taught me stuff, but as you said the rabbit hole goes down far too deep and at some point I found myself even been paranoid for no reason at all, given that we don't "actually" need that deep level of privacy. Not being stalked by google and co is pretty much enough for most :) Can't wait for your next wave of content, cheers

@sunknudsen Hey, sun, which laptop do you recommend me to use (except for mac)?
@nihalatwal2 жыл бұрын
Hey Sun. Great to see you back. I'm glad you found the balance you were looking for/needed. I was one of those people who started watching your vids from the firefox days till the deep tinfoil Snowden stuff... And had reached a similar conclusion eventually. My threat model was simply not that high. But learning about all these mitigations and countermeasures is something that has always excited me and is something I continue to research in my free time. It has instilled a certain mindset when it comes to dealing with tech that I now wouldn't want to live without. The QR paper backup project was probably one of the coolest project I had ever encountered and beleive it or not ... I had the EXACT SAME plan in mind to try and create an OS (with help from some friends) with no networking capabilities (among other things) that has an intuitive GUI to use those tools in an accessible manner. But the UI that you've created with this app is way beyond what I could've figured out. Thank you for the marvelous work. I hope you continue to develop such projects because even if it's a niche use case... We need tools like these to exist to create a basis for how sensitive data can be managed.

Side note: what's up with those holographic stickers?
@sunknudsen2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for your support and happy to see others excited about the problems QR Backup and Superbacked aim at solving. About the OS… very cool! Have you tried Tails? Blessed Tails exists and thankful some hardware (such as some ThinkPads) still allow one to physically remove storage and wireless chips.
@nihalatwal2 жыл бұрын
Yes I've been using tails to manage credentials for some time now. It's been great at comparmentalizing sensitive use cases. However, I was thinking about something along the lines of a live usb that just boots into a dead simple UI (like your app) for just a handful of tasks, and has networking capabilities disabled in the kernel itself? I'm not an expert in these things and haven't had the time to explore this since I got a full time job. But I hope to see this project grow into something that really takes off.

Been here almost since your firefox episodes, and i completely agree with this new direction. Even if i really care about privacy I knew the niche stuff was not sustainable for me, my setup, or my work. So i fell a bit off. I do think having this more mainstream, accesible and convenient approach to privacy is what we should strive for and push regulators and companies to give us. Glad to have you back!

Welcome back! I've only recently gotten more into privacy but it seems, as with any such niche, hobby, or what have you, that what one implements will vary wildly based on lifestyle, in which convenience plays a huge role. As you said, I'm not Snowden, so I don't _need _ a hardware key 2FA for any of my accounts, but I starting using it (and not leaving my Yubikey in my personal laptop) because it's an easy enough inconvenience to deal with. I do leave the one in issued with my work laptop but I keep that in the house and not in the car so it's less likely to be stolen. That being said, I do want to pursue a career in criminal law so having such practices habituated early could pay dividends down the line. I like how you took honest stock of your website and interests, and have changed your aim towards that of digital succession planning. I've learned a lot from your videos and look forward to seeing how else you progress.

Very nice to see you again, i have not the problem with the balance but i know many people have that so i think you should take your time and find it because without balance it will get difficult for you. I wanted to buy a Mac, for reasons you know, it´s important for me that it hasn´t the T2 chip, so what is your Mac?

OMG Sun! Sorry to say, but: FINALLY! I used to love your work in between beginner and intermediate level. It will be awesome to have it back. And also, please, do some pediodical analisys of the market? What are your takes on Apples advances for privacy? Does it really work? Is USB-C more/less secure and the EU enforcement of it is beneficial? All of those day to day things that are practical and influence our everyday choices! I hope you like the idea!

About bitcoin: I've been reviewing some of your videos and following your guides (I'll send PRs, some need fixing). I completelly agree there are loose ends on the bitcoin community about succsession. Have you seen Seed Signer? Also, there are business that take care of holdings and sucession but I believe you might need to engage with them. They are all based on multisig and holding one of X keys for you.

I wonder what happened to the Privacy meet ups. Your product is indeed something that you do not have a suitable solution for at this moment if, in the event of your death, you want to make all your digital data accessible to someone specific or several people. With the necessary shielding and blocking of access while you are alive. I am indeed thinking of a division of the "keys" to the data. Of which one part is in your will and another part is with the person you want to transfer the data to.

I think we are going to need all the privacy we an get due to the fact of a digital currencyand soon we will be trackec and governed by AI.

Thanks for the suggestion… would have to integrate LBRY into tube-manager (see github.com/sunknudsen/tube-manager) given I manage episode catalogue programatically. Unfortunately, that would require time I don’t have currently.

I am not sure, buddy. KZbin is right there on the convenience ballance. He even mentions 99.99% end up watching on youtube anyways. Would be sad if he dedicated a lot of time to 0.01% of the audience. Maybe when he becomes big enough and have a team working with him, then he can add more competing platforms, right?

@@IraeCarvalho i mean there's an easy non-time-consuming feature on odysee that lets you sync your youtube channel to odysee
