Heybike Hauler: Can A Budget Cargo E-Bike Compete?

Definitely a few nice things I see on this, but as it is now I am patiently waiting for my XPedition 2.0 to ship. I'm really curious what your verdict will be on that when you get hands-on with one.

They sent me a Mars 2.0 a couple months ago for a video and it wasn't even completely wired, one of the wires wasn't long enough until I cut their internal zip ties, both brakes were completely clamped down out of the box, 2 nuts and 1 bolt was completely missing...

I really don't like thumb throttles... But I like that it doesn't cut off

I am seeing more and more issues with the electronics of E-Bikes! It looks to me like ALL of them even the expensive ones for the most part are having their electronic components made by the same handful of companies! In almost every case the controllers are using components that are BAIRLY able to handle the loads needed to run the motors! They, for the sake of looks, are cramming them into tiny spaces that DO NOT provide necessary heat dissipation, which combined with the nearly maxed-out component properties is making for way too many controller failures! When I deconstructed two of the controllers that have failed on my e-bikes, and checked the components I was extremely supprised to find that they all used electronic components that were able to handle at best 10% more power than the max draw of the motor. In some cases, the components were even rated to take a peak motor output! This industry NEEDS to do better! People are spending a great deal of money buying these bikes and a large number of them will fail in the first 12 to 18 months. In many cases before they have even paid them off. The battery quality is an issue as well, even in UL-listed systems I have found no-name cells used to build the packs. Literally, no way to even look up what the ratings are on the cells as they are not marked as to what they are or who made them. I am quickly becoming very disillusioned with the entire E-Bike industry! Buyer beware, as is the case for 3 people who have brought their bikes to me for repair, have found out the hard way as I did that dealing with these manufacturers to utilize the warranty if it has not expired just before the bike stopped working is in many cases a complete and total nightmare!

Good review. The brands needs a rebrand for the states. "hey bike" looks like a fly by night company.
