I think the one thing missing from all bike review channels is a deep dive into quality control and customer service. How many people are plunking down $1500 and having it break with little to no support within a year. The first channel to do this will change the industry as buyers will no longer have to hope for the best.

I just need a bike to commute 4 miles to work. After much consideration I can't see myself spending $2,000 to $4,000 dollars on an e- bike so I decided on a beautiful used GIANT mountain bike $250 bucks and I get to do some real exercise while getting to work in about 20 minutes (takes me an hour and a half walking, so I'm way ahead) And it's actually fun to ride, not that hard to pedal, and I can ride on the sidewalk

I went into a bike shop to enquire about the Aventon Adventure 2. The owner (in business since '77) wasn't thrilled with Aventon in general. He didn't like that support is hard to receive from the company. One of his techs was nearby and was nodding in agreement. She told us they had a bike in their shop and that Aventon wasn't responding to their calls for weeks. When they finally got through to Aventon the excuse for the lack of support was, "that ticket fell through the cracks - sorry." But the owner said that it wasn't a one-off event that it was now the norm. He talked me into a different bike that had very similar specs to the AA2. It did cost me $200 more but the owner said that his experience with this other company (Troxus) was positive. I ordered the bike (Lynx Plus) and it'll come with the option of interchanging between torque and cadence sensing. That'll be cool :) ETA - the pick I opted for also has a longer warranty.

Everything I know about Ebikes comes from watching your videos and reading short internet articles. I am a 6’ tall 67-year-old man and have been looking to purchase my first ebike. I am interested in a fat tire ebike for a comfortable ride on both paved rural streets and our local dirt roads & trails and I am intent on purchasing a bike from a local bike shop. I have found one shop that carries the Denago Fat Tire, and another that carries the Aventon Aventure 2, The bikes are priced exactly the same. The Denago advertises a greater range per charge with a 20 Ah battery (vs 15Ah for the Aventure.) The Aventon Aventure does come with an extra battery. I have watched your videos on both bikes and would appreciate your overall opinion as to why you chose the Aventure as well as any feature comparisons that you would consider notable. Thank you for all the work you put into helping educate people about ebikes.

Personally I think this video should have been a, "best bikes of 2023" roundup or something. Saying these bikes are, for sure, the best of a year that literally just begun is presumptuous. For me, I'm a loyal Aventon rider (coming up on 2,000 miles on my Level.2) and I cannot wait to see if they have something new for a possible Level.3 model. I'd love to see what Aventon could do with a mid-drive option or even possibly offer different frame material (carbon fiber? Probably never gonna happen though...) or even possibly give us something like faster charging.
@Jhubble515
@Jhubble515 Жыл бұрын
I had the same thought. Every time I see "The BEST bike of 2024" I think, They haven't been released yet. I am also an Aventon rider. I have the Aventure 2 and love that thing. They make the smoothest torque sensor hands down. I have about 1000 miles on mine and I have seen the new Himiway, Super 72, Cyrusher etc bikes in development but nothing from Aventon yet for 2024. I'm anxiously waiting though. I need a good folder to travel with and thought they have the Sinch 2, it doesn't have hydraulic brakes and just a 500 watt motor so I'm hoping they improve it. Looked at the Heybike Tyson buy once you ride a GOOD torque sensor ebike, you can never go back to a cadence sensor.

We needed to pick a point in time to do this so we wanted to start with 2024. It felt a bit odd to call it a 2023 list as no one cares about "last year", but I see your point. Really any review video or best of list can be out of date as soon as we publish it so we're always fighting this challenge. I feel confident in our list as it stands right now in 2024 - some of these models might be upgraded this year, others will not. Not every brand is updating or coming out with a new model every year. We'll continue to perfect how we do this in the future.
@EbikeEscape
@EbikeEscape 11 ай бұрын
@@Jhubble515 See above comment re 2024. On the Aventon side we'll see if they come out with a new Aventure. I don't think we should count on every brand updating a model every year. Some might but the trend depends on the brand. Like the Level.2 never got updated and it's been well over a year at this point.

A great review of the many different ebikes available. Thanks for the time, energy and expense. I gravitated to Lectric after my third knee replacement as I was challenged peddling my Trek bike. Their step-thru fit the bill for me as I wasn't sure what I could ride after those darn knees went south and I couldn't risk spending $2,000 if it didn't work out for me. My spouse and I were impressed by Lectric's rapid rise in the ebike market, their customer service and we have enjoyed them for the last 4 biking seasons. However, it was inevitable that competition would produce an alternative and now there is the Portola. We want to upgrade, get ebikes that are lighter with long range batteries, and now we have the difficult choice of two fold up bikes well within our price range. Something is on the horizon with Lectric so we'll wait and see what that is on the 12th of March. Perhaps they saw the writing on the wall and reacted to it. But you nailed it when you stated some companies will drop out - it will be interesting to see which ones will be challenged to their detriment.

Sadly we haven't reviewed it though we have asked. This list was only ebikes we've ridden since we don't like to recommend bikes we haven't ridden. My slight concern with Wired is the 1000 watt continuous advertisement. Technically this means it doesn't meet the classification of an ebike (750 watts). It's a weird rule for sure but it's important to be aware. Curious your thoughts.

When I called , I spoke with the owner who guided me through a diagnostic and sent him screen shots of the led and he immediately sent out a replacement. I belong to over 30 Wired freedom groups and a very high percentage of customers speak highly of the Owners and their customer service. The extra power is there when you want it but arrives "Tuned Down" The wired freedom has front and rear suspension . I can spend 2-3 days putting around the woods or beat the hell out of it wide open , throttle only most of a day. I live in an area of Maine that has a lot of hills .So range is subjective I can see where you could easily get a very long range when you need to . Really great video guys. I feel your opinions are valued by so many of us. Please, what is your take on the Lectric Trike? There are so many of these being returned multiple times for bad rear wheel bearings, etc, not to mention the shipping damage. Do you think they will get past these issues? thanks
@EbikeEscape
@EbikeEscape 8 ай бұрын
Thanks! Out of the bunch I still like it. Hydraulic disc brakes and rear wheel drive. If it does get to you damaged at least Lectric will take care of you. I do believe they need to have parts for the rear bearings though.

Of all the e-bikes you've ever tested, are there any that come even remotely close to an off-the-shelf pro bike*, in terms of center-of-gravity (lower/narrower), long stems, disc brakes, electronic wireless shifting systems, etc... BMC TeamMachine SLR01 Trek-Segafredo: Emonda Movistar: Canyon Aeroad CFR Astana - Premier Tech: Wilier Zero SLR Bahrain Victorious: Merida Reacto Team-E EF Education-Nippo: Cannondale Supersix Also, any thoughts on conversion kits.. like Swytch Go or Yose or Smartfit? I imagine it's in the same class as lower-priced ebikes.. Aventon Level 2, Soltera.2 , Gravel Roadster v2 , Velotric T1 ST or Velotric Discover 1?

The Wired Freedom with its 60v 2000 watt system and full suspension will run circles around all those bike with much more comfort. Don’t know why anybody would buy a 48v hard tail in 2024, they really suck in comparison to a 60v full suspension.

I’ve had a dual motor dual battery full suspension fat tire bike for a couple of years now. And with 750 W in both front and rear wheels there is a problem. When going up a steep loose trail, the front motor needs to be turned off. Otherwise it spins. No traction control. Maybe it would be best to have 1000 W in the rear and 500 in the front. Thoughts?

I will take my 115lb Aniioki AQ177 Pro Max with duel motors, 52v-60amp, 4 piston breaks, headlight and rear light, twist throttle. I run my back motor mostly. The only time I use both is climbing hills or I need to get somewhere fast. My bike is a class3 and I can get 75+ miles on throttle alone, or we’ll over 100 miles on pedal assist 3 with moderate peddling or use both motors and little peddling 65-75 miles, Using both motors gives me plenty of power to exceed 40mpr. All this with a price of 1499-2000

VVolt Centauri is Sold Out. However, VVolt Support gave me an update (02/15/2024): Regarding the Centauri, we're in the process of redesigning and consolidating the line (Centauri and Centauri S) to create Centauri II! We anticipate the bikes will land stateside by late spring 2024. You can expect a new frame design (mid-step through), integrated lights, an updated UL-listed electrical system, 14ah (500wh) battery, and an overall upgrade on all components. The first iteration of Centauri II will likely be configured with this very cool automatic 3 speed hub, though another configuration will feature the Enviolo Trekking hub. Considering the updated components and higher quality build, we are aiming at a retail price of $2,699 with shipping and the 3 year warranty.

You have done a very nice job by breaking down the categories. Unfortunately, I live in NY State and these bikes can not be used on roads that have a speed limit over 30mph. I live on a 55 mph road so I can't use one. Otherwise, I would be getting one.

It would be cool if they had one with pass through battery technology. I want the moped style and I’d buy a small solar inverter setup. Wear it on my backback.

How much power per hour do you think a 2sqft panel vertically on your back pack or 0.5sq ft on the backpack top is going to generate? In that same hour how much power is drained in a ride? I'd love for that to work, but it doesn't seem like a power equation will support it.

Hands down, mid drive ebikes are the best. You really don't want to be stuck out in the freezing cold or rain trying to change a flat tire when the heavy motorized wheel is stuck on the bike. It takes enormous effort to remove it and it's just a huge hassle.

On the other hand though if your drivetrain fails a hub motor will get you home (provided you have a throttle)
