Heyco Strain Relief Removal on Minn Kota Trolling Motor

This is an overview on how to remove a heyco strain relief on a Minn Kota Trolling Motor. The strain relief is a plastic brace and/or bracket that holds the trolling motor wires in place. This part is very difficult to remove.
I have created this page to share information with the hopes of helping you become a better fisherman and catch more fish. I do this with the heart of a teacher in mind while trying to make it simple and fun for anyone!

how do you actually get the strain relief off the wires?

Some of these Heyco strain reliefs have interlocks once they are compressed. Others are not. It appears that opposite the moving piece are two slots that 'may' allow you to release the clips with a small straight blade screw driver.
