Tetsu is actually the base of a really good defensive "custom set" you can already make! By exchanging the tetsu arms with konchu vambraces, with the rest of the armor being full tetsu, with proper decorations you can get health+50, defense+2 and i reckon also any low level skill like speed sharpening that can be gotten with just decos Really good armor for low rank if you really don't wanna die!

You can press B while standing still to crouch and you carve faster if you crouch because it skips the animation of standing up after carving. You have to do this for some monsters to get all carves because some monsters have up to 9 carves. For example all forms of Fatalis.

Alternatively, you can gem in "Speed Gather" which doubles the animation speed. I think in this game the Iron Belt has Speed Gather built-in (+10 points).

the gypceros fake death is so obvious, there is no victory music, the quest isn't over and you see him do it in the cutscene but it still manages to fool a lot of hunters, because it's early in the game and the fight is hard enough to make you forget

Gypceros is _much_ more manageable once you can acquire Negate Poison as a skill. It takes some time to do that, though. You can actually sneak in a carve or two while it's down, but this generally results in eating a hit once Gypceros gets up.

If you think one Gypceros is bad, wait until you have to deal with two. Also, tip for Gypceros, you can get an extra carve from him while he is playing dead. You should also watch his flash organ on his forehead while he is in that state, as when it starts flashing it is about to attack. Essentially, if he is playing dead, either stay back if you don't want to get badly hurt, or, if you are brave enough, you can get a free carve from him.

I always thought he was a decent early monster, and really fun with hammer and horn. I just hate all his gear which definitely docks him quite a bit imo. His hammer iv found is relatively decent as soon as you get it, but outclassed by even pre after not much longer (which always makes monsters feel lame to me)

The Sunken Hollow is one of my favourite maps. In my top 5. A concept like it presents an awesome potential opportunity to introduce a wide array of troglobite and trogloxene monsters. But a thing vexed is that it made a confusing continuity error. We technically destroyed it or at least reverted it back to its original state I guess. The Sunken Hollow and the Volcanic Hollow are the same area. The Tetsucabra dammed up the source lava with its digging and boulder moving. After you defeat it the Troverians remove the blockage to let lava flow free again. They depend on heat to function fully. That is why you could see Little Miss Forge's adoptive Troverian father in Yukumo in Generations because he could use the hot springs to warm himself up. It is just somehow jarring going on quests in the Sunken Hollow after you defeat the key quest Tetsucabra. The Volcanic Hollow is my least favourite volcano map in MH.

Iirc if you ever question why certain games are a certain style or way think of there being 2 dev teams. The first team is the main series games (MH1-MH4U & World) and the second team being more inspired by the over seas titles (Frontier/Online). The second team developed MHGenerations, MHGU and Rise

Ah yes, the Gypceros, I'll never forget fighting it way back then in the 1st MH game. Needless to say, I had no idea about his fake death gimmick. After a hell of a battle of attrition, with 2 carts already, I thought I had finally killed it... Only to be insta killed the second I went to "carve" it. Gypceros is from Gen 1 monster hunter and yes he does "fake death" when hes close to dying. You can normaly get 1 qick carve in before he wakes up flailing. He has had this gimmik since day 1

Yeah, 4U was the first game to introduce mounting but the etiquette for mounting in 4U is very different from World/Rise becos in 4U, if you see someone mounting the monster, it's better to back off and let them mash buttons to get the monster down so that everyone can wail on it. By World and Rise though, mounting has been updated so that we can now bash the monster along with the mounter, but I think it was so new back in 4U they hadn't worked out the kinks of it just yet so it's best to keep a distance during a mount until the monster's down by sharpening, healing, etc.

They did that on Gens actually, there they updated the mounting to have a little rng to get up, increased with the damage you can deal to the monster in the air, but then if other ppl attacked the monster while you're mounting, it helped the mounting bar to increase

@@TGHunter Oh right I forgot that they did update it slightly even by MHGen, oops (I have played 3U/4U/MHGen/WorldBorne/SunRise) so I should've remembered that you're correct. I did like that small change with mounting in MHGen it made the experience so much more fun, and then by the time they got to Worldborne it feels like they fine-tuned mounting as a mechanic to the point the mounting in Worldborne is the best and most interactive with both monsters and hunters in the series thus far. (I have mixed feelings on SunRise's mounting system.)

So for a word of advice: you can buy books from the item shop that give information on sets of monsters. You should always pick them up and maybe give the new entries a quick browse each time. And also check your map between each quest to see if you have a rare expedition! Remember those costumes...

Funny thing in my first encounter with Gypceros. I was hunting with a random multiplayer group and when Gypceros fell over, I was furthest away from it and suddenly the rest of my team got insta-killed by the surprise attack! Quest failed even though we were actually pretty well in control of the hunt from up until that point. That ONE MOVE ended the team. So I knew to keep away when it fell over like that. lol.

@Meister Wu I don't understand why you seem to think the people working on Rise are lazy. We've gotten 10 monsters in the title updates, with a team far smaller than World. They are putting in effort, but corners have to be cut somewhere to meet the demand. If they focused on remaking old monsters from the series we'd only be getting one per update and you'd still complain because you don't understand the time and effort that goes into the process. All you do is mindlessly consume and then complain that it isn't enough

Gypceros is a returning classic who was in the first two generations. Yes, he absolutely is the worst, but in a fun way, because he's a quirky dirty rat bastard. What's supposed to happen with him playing dead is that you will think you've killed it and go in for a carve (and yes, you can actually carve materials off him in this state) but when you do he wakes up and starts flailing and can deal a ton of damage.

You'd think Gypceros would redeem itself by being some sort of super defensive predator, but no. Gypceros is a giant bird trying not to die (poison being a great predator deterrent, fakes death to once again discourage predators, rubbery skin to protect itself from electric attacks, flash light to cover its retreat). It's a damn dodo. Those teeth aren't made for meat (it drinks water to recover stamina instead of looking for meat)

Yeah, nearly all of the base monsters from the previous games are there but there's no sub-species. Also, every NPC from previous games are there. Hence why it's called “Generations”, a celebratory title. That's why I think it's best if you have played all previous games before GU, the “Oh hey!! You're here too?!!“ moments are my fav in GU.

you can tell when the monster is being mounted, it falls down very fast. the time it takes the player to jump on its back should be enough time to stop attacking. iirc sometimes you can knock it down for a mount but actually miss the mount itself, which you might need to roll closer to it or jump the ledge again Anyway your opinion is wrong, this isn’t cephalos.. edit: lmao you almost accidentally killed yourself with the bomb L, that’s extremely nostalgic
