Bro, don’t stop the spool using your hand.. in my experience it always snap the line if big fish take your bait and you try to stop using hand (finger if baitcasting reel).. just trust your reel drag system

Been rocking the squidy bits tentacles and mantle all week out on Cape San Blas and I'm getting BIT! Big flounder, whiting (southern kingfish), pinfish for cutbait, gafftopsail, and croakers so far. Crazy, and I mean CRAZY durable. I landed 5 whiting out of the surf on a single 2" by 1/4" strip of the mantle. Just kinda, for lack of a better term, wacky rigged it and it stays put. I freshen this bait up long before it is falling off the hook. Exceptional value and super handy. Can't wait to try it back home in Kentucky.

Hi Skipper, I'm from South Africa. My question is about the baits I normally fish with, which are sardines, prawns, baby squid, Japanese makrel and choka bait. Which of these baits can be salted ? After the baits are salted must I keep it in a refrigerator, freezer or a cool dry place ? How and what type of salt do I use ? I normally just freeze the baits when I'm done fishing. Will appreciate your expert advice. Thanks Joey
@Shosk3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate fellow South African here. Tnx to Mr Skipper I've been trying to make my own salted squid bait its not too hard but obviously not as precise as hey skipper. So far I've found almost any squid works. I've yet to try prawns and so on but maybe some day. Maybe not my place but I've found once salted just keep them in a cool dry place in a Waterproof container with some salt in there as well.

I would love to get some halibut out here in the Bay Area. What’s your technique? What rig/bait do you use? Thanks in advance.
@socalangler40823 жыл бұрын
@@ahassan3557 well, I'm always fishing from the bank (jetties, docks/bays) or the surf. Jerkbaits are good, metal jigs, dropshot rigs with flukes, curly tails, or paddle tails work. Even those plastics on a jighead work. I even caught an undersized hali on a Berkeley gulp sandworm one time from the surf. If you're on the bank, I think the most important thing is to be mobile. You gotta find them and sometimes I walk for miles before I catch a halibut. Right now during the summer, the jerkbaits have been really killing it. If you're on a boat or kayak I wouldn't know. And I'm also not in the bay area so that's something to consider as well.

See two other comments by others in SA. The one comment is a reply comment. You can try salting your own baits! Small fish are salted by the fishermen on the cape west coast. They should also be suitable for bait. There was also a question comment about adding baking soda into salt! I don't know about that, but you can experiment, it's cheaper than trying to or importing baits! I will try experimenting salting baits too! I have seen salted red bait, it was tougher! I am in P.E. - SA.
