Plus their message is so universal: be yourself, because who you are is valid. The things Ash teaches us about gender can be applied to so many other facets of life. That identities don't always fit cleanly into boxes, that it's okay to play around with your identity to figure it out. That it IS okay to fit cleanly into a box if that's what feels best for you. I could go on.
@Levi-rl1yi5 жыл бұрын
With all due respect, but if you're trying to educate yourself on trans issues, please seek out a channel that's based on medical evidence and facts rather than this. I'm all for people being themselves, but this doesn't represent the actual transgender community in the slightest. Transgender literally means; when a person identifies with a different gender than their assigned sex. Medically, only 2 genders and sexes (unless you count intersex) are recognised aka none of the god knows how many tumblr genders. As a transgender man who's been diagnosed with dysphoria and has been through the majority of his transition, I'd simply like you to know that this does not mirror what trans is to 99% of the transgender community and I think it's important to keep that in mind ; ) Everything Ash is talking about has no medical or scientific evidence to show for it.

@Special-mg5kh5 жыл бұрын
Ace of Cats tbh I really don’t understand this at all. If you are non-binary doesn’t that mean you don’t want to be identified as exclusively male or female. How can your opinion of what your gender is change overnight and day to day. I don’t even understand what an agendered person would be able to wear that would make them feel comfortable. I can understand not feeling like a male and feeling like a female, and vice versa, but I don’t understand changing genders everyday. You don’t have to change your gender or identify as something different to put on different clothes. just dress however you want to??? Not trying to be rude, seriously just trying to understand where you’re coming from.
@MercurialMoon5 жыл бұрын
@@Special-mg5kh 1. non-binary isn't just agender. It's an umbrella term for anyone who isn't strictly woman or man. Some of them have no gender but a lot of them do have one, it's just not woman or man, or both at the same time. 2. gender identity and gender expression are two different things. Non-binary people can look feminine or masculine and that doesn't make them less non-binary. Like girls can wear boy clothes and vice versa but that doesn't mean they'd identify themselves as the opposite gender. Hope that makes sense.

My best friend from college recently came out as non-binary. When I met her, she dated boys and wore dresses! Then she came out as lesbian and started dressing more androgeonously. Then she started dating a bisexual woman (whom she is still in a relationship with now 6 years later!). About a year ago, I found your channel, and you reminded me SO much of her (and yes, my friend does still go by she/her pronouns as of now!). Your appearance, your mannerisms, even the way you talk is SO much like her. Anyway I showed her your channel and I'm pretty sure she binge watched you for a few days or weeks, and she fell in love with your channel! She later told me she didn't even know what non-binary was until she watched you, but the things you said and the ways you felt really clicked with her. A couple months ago, she started binding her chest bumps. She was so happy! (I'll also add, her girlfriend has been 100% supportive throughout, as has her family.) In the past few weeks, she's been talking more and more about how she wants to get top surgery. As her best friend and complete supporter, what's the best advice I could give her? I'm a straight cis female who has never gone through any of this, but I don't consider myself to be completely oblivious either. I want her to be happy and I will support her through anything, but it's hard for me to find the right things to say that are supportive but still realistic. I worry that she will jump into something and have some sort of regret later (not that I don't take her desires and wishes seriously - of course I do - but it's a major surgery and a huge decision, and I would want her to take it slow no matter WHAT the surgery was). I didn't mean to ramble there. Hope I made sense. I'm just wondering if you, or anyone, has some advice on how I can be an even more supportive friend. (Also, if you're watching this, my best friend, you know who you are, HI! :D )

Oh and I forgot to say, THANK YOU ASH for helping me understand more about a community I love but am not a part of, but more importantly, thank you for being a part in helping my best friend continue her journey of self-discovery. :) You're great and you're doing great things. If you're ever feeling down on yourself, just remember that I have at least one person whose life you have changed (and I know there are countless more, too).

Watching you begin to express yourself authentically encouraged me to do the same. I remember watching the videos where you were contemplating cutting your hair and put a wig on, and then experimenting with my own hair and eventually cutting it. You have been a great inspiration to me, so thank you. Also, your hair is brown. Light brown, but brown.

I'm a cis lady but lately i've been feeling the more masculine look lately. Button up shirts all the way kind of thing. Bow ties or necklaces. I was invited to a wedding and instead of a dress I decided to wear a blazer and pants and saddle shoes. I'm heteroflexible, and I only say this because its sort of expected that women express femininely to attract masculine men, but I don't feel that compulsion. I like men and I like expressing myself masculinely.
@jadepaesk83695 жыл бұрын
TheWonderGinger I feel the same, I think I’m more comfortable expressing myself masculinely but I’m still not brave enough to show it. If I was invited to a wedding I would probably miss it cause I’m not comfortable wearing dresses and I don’t have the courage to show up wearing a blazer :(

So cool to look at everyone’s art and hear what you have to say, Ash! I hope you and everyone knows that there’s no need to explain “why” or “why” not you are a certain identity to anyone; you’re valid no matter what others might think or say. No one should be obligated to explain themselves if they are not comfortable or happy doing so!

I went to the same school as Ash in Jr High, and High School. I wouldn't of called us friends, but we didn't hate each other. When we saw each other I would say that Ash was happy, and had it all together. Ash was in clubs, and smart, also had a lot of friends. True friends in my mind not the fakey friends that were a complete norm at our school. After listening to the videos that get posted is how you may think you know something about someone but you truly do not. You never know what someone is struggling with. It is a real eye opener. And I am soooo proud of Ash now. Be yourself. Love life, and Love fiercely.

I'm also nonbinary, and I used to have hair that was pretty long, below the shoulders. I decided a while ago to cut my hair much shorter, and it was the best decision I have ever made regarding my appearance (that and wearing a tie -- 10/10 would recommend)

1) I really liked the point "They can't come out of the photo and make you look like that." I've only recently started being able to look at old pictures of me and remember how much fun I was having, intead of going "This GIRL isn't me, put it away!" 2) I have the same hair colour, I call it brown.
@bryntendo5 жыл бұрын
Blonde to brown really is a spectrum, haha, 'non-blondary' made me snort-laugh xD I'd say you're in that space where it really could go either way, but is probably most accurately a dark dirty/mousy blonde. Cusping on light brown, but there's definitely more kinda yellow/gold blonde underlaying tones than brown/brunette ones, so still technically blonde.

Can we just take a sec to appreciate that all the artists were paid? Like it should be standard that artists get paid for their work and not be surprising that ash compensated them, but sadly especially marginalized artists are expected to work for free a lot. Also it’s great of them to mention it in the video as this normalizes paying artists! 🖤
@btambo045 жыл бұрын
hey ash, I'mma be honest- I thought you were ftm trans, not even non binary and I just began watching your videos. Anyway, I am also non binary! I haven't come out to anyone but friends, and I was wondering if you have any advice to kinda look like it more. my parents don't know so I still have my birth gender clothes, is there a way to use them to make myself kinda look less feminine(probably spelt wrong)? also do you have any specific pronouns you would like to go by?(I know you probably wont see this but anyone can help me with this) I go by max and they/them pronouns :) ~Max ♡
@MarkusAldawn5 жыл бұрын
I think Ash said they're comfortable with whatever pronouns. If your parents see you as a girl, you probably have more wiggle room with clothing than if they saw you as a guy, because women's clothes are strange and non-standard for a guy, according to Le Bullshit Book of Gender Norms. I've got a friend who buys men's shirts just because they're a better selection for her, so maybe you can take comfort in a little bit of androgyneity from masculine clothing, which tends to be less gender-coded, while not having to make it super public? If that's not your thing, maybe some options common to guys and gals alike? Jeans are obviously different, but idk how much the difference is or how much you're trying to lean into androgyneity. I'm not an expert, and YMMV depending on how much control you have over buying your clothes and whether the selection available makes you feel comfortable, but even two hours and a changing room in a clothes shop can suss out what makes you the most comfy, and for free, as well. You could get a second opinion (in case you've lost your first! *fingerguns*). And if you see a piece of clothing you really like when shopping with parents that you think works really well for you and it happens to be a man's, they'll probably not care about its assigned gender too much? Might be a warning sign if they do, but idk. I'd like the record to reflect I'm still not an expert and if you burn down the mall using my advice, I accept no responsibility. Also Max is a kickass name! It can be short for Maxine (very feminine), or Maximilius (literally the most masculine name on the planet), or just be Max.
