Beautiful feather grain. I've turned a few pieces of maple crotch and they also had beautiful grain patterns. It's wonderful to expose this beauty hidden within the wood. Some pieces my wife won't let me give away to friends.

I love the contrast of the natural dark and light of the wood. A true artist can see a piece long before it's finished and along the journey develops details and designs so we can see the end piece too. I would love to send a couple of chunks of wood from the UK, but they would be stopped at customs and discarded and I'd be so much in trouble. 😪 I could see this piece as the base for a fish bowl.

Ahhh, another technical termed learned from your videos! Little pokey parts. Never knew the proper name for those. Love 'em. AND, it's hard to remember the cut on so much of the bowl is interrupted. Hard to remember because your hands are so steady. I'll bet the grain problem that you had to work extra hard cleaning up was due to that interrupted cut as well. Even under the hand of the master. Good work Phil. I see an owl on the bottom of the inside. The feather you saw is part of the face and the two dots are the eyes. Very nice.

Beautiful bowl Phil! You got the best out of the crotch feather because you hollowed the bark side, and because the chainsaw cut was right on the line between the pith of the branch and the pith of the treetrunk. Thanks

Man I love me some maple. Grew up with it in abundance in Michigan and enjoyed maple syrup too. It hasn't been until these latter years that I truly appreciate its beauty and you have found that beauty in this one. Well done Phil. Shall I call you my fine feathered friend? Excellent work!

Such a beautiful find Phil. I had a beautiful piece of crotch Black Walnut that I turned about a year ago with feather like grain in the crotch. I had no idea that wood could look like that until I turned it. Happy turning my friend love it. ☺️

Phil, touché nice maple crouch. I just love the different grains and designs we see in our wood projects. I have a red oak crotch I cut in half and turned 2 thin walled natural edge bowls. They were still wet and when they dried the feather actually raised and made ridges in the feather.
