The PERFECT Pear! - Wood Turning

I don't often have a perfect piece of wood to turn from and that's perfectly OK! Many know I love the imperfections in nature for my turnings. But, I must admit, this was fun! No problems, no soft wood, voids, cracks, etc. Just nice tight bark and an excellent example of Bradford Pear. Beautifully finished in shellac!

I am totally ready for this mystical place called "Shady Acres Woodshop"...I like your artistic camera angle at 3:42...Perfect A, B, C's of turning a live edge bowl. A lot of the traditional handles by Colonial Silver Smith would use fruitwood handles like Pear, Apple. I guess for its beauty and is a stable wood? I never saw a Live Edge Handle on a fancy silver tea pot., now that's a thought, ha. Happy Birthday Phil! How many times have you been around the sun? Here's a poem I really like. It's not mine: "These Hands From God" Etches of landscapes and silhouettes of faces, paintings of starlit nights and far off places- My existence is encompassed by the creative arts, and with my two bare hands is where it starts. But lately woodworking has been deep in my heart. A few pieces of rough cedar to start off my day, take some short or long nails and hammer away. Making signs or shelves for myself or my family, so that all can see my heart and soul’s creativity. I now live joyous with a purpose, o so happily. My late sister Karen woodworked in her ol’ garage. She’d make beautiful trellises or create a frame collage. So now as I stand with all my tools in my hand, her inspiration and motivation I completely understand. This hobby was unexpected, so utterly unplanned. I engrave personal names with a heated pen. Start at eight in the morn and do it all over again. There are so projects and ideas stuck in my head, “you are so very gifted”, my dear husband said. To an epiphany of aspirations, I have been led. Now I tell you these things because I’m satisfied with the artisan woman in me; so hard I’ve tried. I shall show you just how much I am elated as in complete happiness I am saturated. The Sound of Sawdust Hello bowl gouge, my old friend I've come to turn with you again This ugly wood is quite a mess Sent to me by Tuffy Marginez But a vision that I turned with my hands Here it stands Within the sound of sawdust In dusty shop, I work alone Mask and face shield always on 'Neath the halo of a ring lamp I turn my chuck until its tightly clamped Bring my tailstock up so the piece, it won't take flight Into the night And part the sound of sawdust And in the KZbin stats, I saw Ten thousand viewers, maybe more People watching in their homes People watching on their phones People typing comments over-share Because they care About the sound of sawdust "Folks" said I, "Hey you should know How to make these killer bowls Hear my words that I might teach you Watch my hands that I might reach you" And in the stats, the story tells And echoed in the wells of sawdust And the people came and stayed To watch the KZbin star they made And the browser flashed out its warning "Another video posted this morning!" Then the host said, "Good morning, good afternoon, good evening! Or as we like to say here at Shady Acres...Howdy!" No-one whispers in the sound of sawdust
