I've worked for a company who puts on the correct rated tyres for tachograph calibration. When calibrated they put the wrong tyres on once they have the certificate. You learn new things everyday. Best of luck for the new year mate

Combination. My old transport manager always said "know your vehicle". Any time I asked a question about the vehicle I was driving I was told I should know that because I'm the one driving it. Consider the fact I didn't own the vehicle, the transport manager was insistent I knew everything about the vehicle. A lot of drivers, especially agency drivers, just get in and drive, and their daily checks meet the absolute minimum standard, eg tyres and horn check. I'll be checking my tyres monday morning because of this

Thanks for a very informative video and I learned something new after watching this. I would say this is the suppliers fault as you brought a specific truck and the tyres should be up to the load capacity of the axle on the truck. I guess if you approached them they would wiggle their way out of it somehow Once again thank you for a very informative video

respect for doing what your doing m8 , i guess putting £ in your pocket instead of the greedy boss . But definitely not following you on this one lol as you inspired me to take up trucking ( i bumped into you at amazon warrington ) . At the end of the day if you go in front of judge and jury you can explain your situation and i am sure you will be fine , not like you got a couple of tippers on the road trying to make a quick buck . Get Rock God as a hgv technician let me clear a few things up for you. Your ministry plate is your VTG6 plate and should be fixed in the cab although it it's missing the examiner at test can get all info from the rev and chassis no. Tyre ratings are set as the first number is for a single tyre axle and the second number is for a double tyre axle i.e 152/148m = 152 single tyre (steer etc) and 148 is for double tyre (drive axle). There is a table on the hgv testers manual gov website that shows all tyre ratings and the appropriate weights. Your tacho calibration plaque on the B pillar would have shown the 295 tyres fitted at calibration but these would be sufficient as its the 148 no you need to look as for double axle. It smacks me you had the tyres changed for the initial mot and plating inspection and then swapped back. The vehicle should not have been passed to you with the incorrectly weighted front axle tyres fitted as they could have failed. And most certainly should not have passed its first Mot after as DVSA inspectors do look at tyre weights. I hope this is a little clearer mate

Cheers. Also, in addition to the 2 MOTs , DVSA were responsible for the paperwork relating to the 'Notifiable Change' from tractor unit to rigid.

I’ve Never bought a truck, but is there any sort of vehicle specs listed when your purchased, Giving that it was modified prior to your purchase. But at the same time why was not picked up at 6weekly?

When I bought it I was fully aware of the modification and what I was buying, the issue was Scania didn't go through the correct procedures with regards to their responsibilities prior to me collecting the truck, it's annoying as the truck itself is spot on. As for the 6 weekly, checking tyre ratings isn't on the check list. They just check tyre pressure, tread depth and for any damage.

how do the points system work for operators? I had to go for a drivers meeting yesterday with the TM at our firm cos they had to let a driver go as he not been doing his checks, putting down nil defects every day and then the truck failed and the operator got 50 points or something

Different 'offences' get different points, the more serious offences generate higher points which then determines whether you get a Red or Amber marker against the O Licence.

@@TheRockgod23 ah OK. I got 3 infringements from September for working time because I left my card in the wagon on other work accidentally so pushed me over the weekly limit, daily limit and failed to have a weekly rest. Also an infringement for overspeed doing 97kph.

I don't think checking tyre ratings is on the check list. They just check tyre pressure, tread depth and for any damage.

It's a pity really because I'm actually happy with the truck, it's just the way everything negative revolves around what happened when I bought the truck (2 years ago !).
