My grandmother used to make an apple butter cake. She used a boxed cake mix and would make it as the box directed, pour half in the pan and to the other half she would mix a few extra eggs, cake flour and apple butter and swirl it in with the rest of the cake mix that she had already put in the pan. After she baked it and let it cool she simply topped it with the apple butter. Just a simple country recipe from the top of grandmas head. I don’t even think the recipe has ever even been wrote down. Other than making the cake mix like the box calls for we just eyeball the ingredients. We have just pass it through the family. It’s my middle daughters go to cake. Ever since she was little bitty that was what she wanted for her birthday. Even when we would do theme birthday party’s when she was little she had to have Granny’s cake. I’ve had to run out and buy the store bought apple butter and while it works in a pinch it’s not the same as the homemade. (We do crockpot applebutter now)

I lived there back in 1994-95. Beautiful area. Was like going back in time. My favorite spot was in the cumberland gap where the 3 states boarders came together KY, VA and TN. Everything closed at 5 LOL. It was also a dry county so you had to go to Knoxville to buy alcohol (unless you knew where to get the moonshine) . There was a local bar, it was open ONE Saturday a month & you had to drive thru all the checkpoints on the way home. Tazwell had a racecar track that was lots of fun. I'd love to go back there and have a cabin on a mountain top now that I'm about ready to retire.

I really enjoyed seeing that. Now I know what that paddle I have with the holes in it is for…. That is some good Eaton on a hot biscuit! Don’t even need butter! I always made my apples with no sugar. Folks use too much sugar!

Definitely would not consider this product as shelf stabel. The jars would need to be put in the refrigerater right away since the rims were not wiped down. Oh well.
