For autistic people, change can take a long time to process. It's taken me almost a year to process my diagnosis, but I hope that by uploading this video, I can get past any barriers, and start doing what I want to do, without feeling embarrassed or worried that I'm getting it 'wrong'.

Hi Charlotte. I'm getting a bit hooked on your vids. Brilliant presentation and editing in addition to the fact that I have a grown up, neuro-divergent daughter makes your content so watchable. Cheers.

You mentioned (I think) not liking the sound of dishes clanking together. I've heard one autistic person say that they bought bamboo plates (or something), for that reason.

I related to so much of what you said, especially about life's unwritten rules that everyone else seems to have implanted in them and us neurodivergent folk have to figure out for ourselves, really makes me want a diagnosis myself. Im glad you've found a way to work through your fears and do things you wanna do, its so freeing 🥰

Ooh I had no idea you are too!! But yesss, for so long I thought I was the only one who didn't 'get it', it's comforting to know that I'm not. If you go for a diagnosis please let me know how you get on, or reach out if you want any help 🥰(even though anyone who knows me knows I'm the least helpful person ever, but I try 😂🤦‍♀)

@@CharlotteElizabeth3000 aww Charlie, you’re ever so sweet 🥹❤️ I really appreciate that and the fact that you try is all the help anyone could ask for. I’m like 99% sure I’m on the spectrum but there’s always that small room that contemplates whether it’s something else but sooo many quirks I’ve had my whole like have become clear indicators like sensory issues, executive dysfunction, object permanence (which extends itself to people in my life) and so much more. Would love to sit down with a professional and unpack my trauma 🤣🙃 will definitely let you know how I get on tho, thanks for sharing this insight, I know how petrifying that alone can be.

@@seajayyeeee8568 unpack trauma 😂 I feel a podcast coming on 😂 I felt very similar though, I'd be so certain I was, then the uncertainty would creep in, and I'd end up going in circles. Once you start noticing the patterns and similarities though, you can't un-notice them 😅 definitely keep me posted ❤️

@@CharlotteElizabeth3000gosh yeah I could easily sit down with you for HOURS and talk about similar experiences our funky brains have had this far in life lmao. I guess the first step for me is finding a reliable avenue of help by a professional for my situation, hopefully they don’t suggest group therapy sessions because those are an absolute no-go for me and will just make me regress and mask further.

Doesn’t it make life much better once you better understand yourself. I found spending time writing lists of what makes me happy and unhappy helpful so that you can do more of what you like, enjoy and what makes you happy.

I can relate to so much of what you said, I was crying while watching! I'm 31 years old, recently diagnosed with inattentive adhd but I suspect that I'm more likely autistic or having both (audhd). This video gives me courage to go on, searching for answers and support. I think a correct diagnosis matters for me because I feel so stuck in my life and the constant camouflaging harms my mental and physical health. By the way: I love the visuals and music in this video!❤ And your guitar looks so beautiful, what brand is it?

As a man on the spectrum, and I could be wrong in saying this, but I feel like it's much more difficult for a man than a woman. A man has to be able to go out into the world and prove his worth. When faced with the challenges of being autistic, it's seemingly impossible. Whereas a cute woman on the spectrum, can still be approached by any man just by being who she is. The same isn't true for a man. A man is shunned for being odd and not having the capacity to be to be socially ept to approach women, read subtle cues etc. Again I'm happy to be proven otherwise in my thinking.

This is a really, really interesting point. Thank you for sharing your perspective! I can totally see how that works, since typically women are better at masking, so our traits aren't seen as much you know? I do think everyone struggles in their own way, whatever the gender, but I really appreciate you sharing this perspective.

I was actually watching a comedy special on netflix, and the comedian is autistic, and she was talking about some of her experiences and I was like wait, what, no way, I relate!! SO, after that ensued the research that ultimately led to me persuing a diagnosis.

I went down the GP route, I was quite lucky with my process though and didn't have to wait too long, unlike others I've heard about! I do have a video about it, but it's quite long so I wouldn't recommend watching it unless you really want to know about it, but it's there and has the info in it if it's something you're looking for 😅
