Oh How I could relate to what you said in the end. I am a 5 foot tall petite lady with power tools and I get weird looks from men all the time at the hardware stores, whey they get to know that the stuff I am buying is for me, not for my husband. And the funny thing is my husband is an IT guy and has no clue about how to use the tools in my shop.

Miurie's Handy Mom I’m 67 and get the same thing at the hardware store! When I purchase a faucet, “tell your husband...”. My husband is so spatially challenged that he can’t figure out that a rectangle won’t fit in a circle. And he breaks every power tool he picks up...or loses it! #girlswithtoolsrule

Oh my gosh, I like when you said you hope for a future where a woman can walk into a hardware store and it's not assumed that she doesn't know what she's doing! I'm a young woman in my 20s, and I'm so tired of the Home Depot employees (although they are very nice) approaching me to ask if I need help, with a concerned look on their face like I'm a lost puppy in the wrong store. Or maybe they think I'm looking for the flower gardening section - Ha!

I did the around the neck using paracord. I agree your design was the best I have used. I also modified it alittle more and instead of the sides of the mask having to slide the filter in I left a gap along the bottom and used Velcro to close it.

You are so inspiring! My Dad always included me in everything he did and I was his helper. I am desperate to fix up our 1981 all original house kitchen and baths. I have had leaks in ceiling and smell in the crawlspace, vents the Chimney is bad cannot light a fire for smell of creasote and am on my own. With your advice I feel like I could fix this old house! I just don't know where to start. BTW my wall oven is from 1981 and pretty bad since cloth gaskett-seal is burnt and it smells. It is Covid-time and am on a fixed SS budget. So need to do things on a shoestring!

You go girl! I love doing things myself. But now I'm retired I find I have two problems, money and some of the projects need a second pair of hands which I do not have and can't afford. If you have any properties that have a basement bathroom that has a drain in the floor with a big slope I could use suggestions on what type of flooring would be best (it is also the laundry room). I would also bury the drain piped from the hot water tank over flow and HVAC.
@PrettyHandyGirl4 жыл бұрын
It's hard for me to answer your question without seeing the property and seeing all the pipes and the drain. But, I know some contractors have been able to build up a slight platform over drains and pipes, but you need to make sure you don't put any wood directly on the concrete or it can rot.

Thanks for the reply, platform wouldn't work.

You are so cool! I am also a handy girl/woman and I love it! I am actually looking for a general contractor that knows about how to transform shipping containers to a home. Do you have any experience with this or if you don't, then know any contractors who would that you could recommend? I'm in Northern GA.

Lol I have that happen to me a lot too. Lose things right in front of me. I always wanted to flip houses when I was in my late 20s mid 30s. I wound up getting pregnant and then my son's dad died. So the wind got knocked out of my sails and then life wrecked havoc on the rest of me. I'm old now and I'm still handy but physically cannot do a lot. I had a house taken from me right after my son was born and I never got myself back up enough to another one. Soooo,I'll be a renter for the remainder of my live production. I need renter friendly tips tricks and projects that will make my townhouse look like I own it. I've been her 20+ yrs and management allow me to do a lot. I just want options that can go with me if I leave.

I'm sorry to hear about the death of your Husband. So when you rent a home you buy it furnished on the windows?
@PrettyHandyGirl4 жыл бұрын
Aqua, thanks for your comment. Sounds like you've dealt with a lot in your life. Good for you for being willing to be handy and survive without a man. Things you can do in a rental (obviously depend on the landlord), but some will let you paint walls if you promise to repaint them before you leave. But, if you want something you can take with you, why not create some custom art pieces to make the place a reflection of you. If you paint on a large sheet of masonite, foam board, or plywood, you can affix it to the wall with thin brad nails. Then pull it off when you leave and easily patch the nail holes.

@@PrettyHandyGirl , thx. Yes I have dealt with a lot but I'm a warrior! I'm on the up side of my second spine surgery and this one took so, I'm ready to get my life moving again. I like that idea. I want to do grass cloth wall paper but I dont want to mess with paste. I saw some really nice peel stick kind. I need character in this place and storage. My kitchen is like a warehouse with just a sink an top shelf and under sink cabinet. It looks cluttered bcus of the added furniture I need. Not to mention I had to put my washer here also. Landlord dont care as long as they dont have to do the work and I dont damage the place.

How do I get a general contractor license without experience? I have been told in FL we have to have a sign off from an employer or company to get a license. Should I get the license or go to a community college for a degree on Construction?
@PrettyHandyGirl3 жыл бұрын
Tiahnna, I'm not sure what the requirements are in Florida. In NC, we have to have three letters attesting to our moral character. I'd try to do research in Florida to find out which path you should take. Personally I am self taught on most things, but take industry training courses every year.
