In my opinion Gene was at his finest when singing ballads. He had a beautiful, sweet voice and always captured the very heart of a slow song with great elegance.

I just adore his ballads. I never cared to listen to them before. But he breathes so much life into them.

I think that Gene Vincent's ballads were superb and his best works. He and Eddie Cochran will always have a special place among my favorite musicians who's musical works will never grow old and always sound like you're listening to them for the first time, like Johnny Cash's and Jerry Lee Lewis'. His voice was perfect for ballads. If I could go back in time I think it could be interesting to sit with him in a bar for one evening in the late sixties and just drink and talk.

This song should have been a hit for Gene. The Challenge recordings reveal that Gene grew and developed as an artist without losing his essential identity. They sound contemporary without being gimmicky, and Gene's vocal presence is as strong and distinctive as ever. These recordings could have put Gene in the vanguard of what guys like Rick Nelson and Gram Parsons were evolving toward. If Gene's management and various creditors, not to mention his defiantly stuck-in-the-past fan base, had allowed Gene to do anything but endlessly play the oldies circuit, things might have been different. It's not like the goods to do it weren't there if this song is anything to go by.
