I'll say this. The CEO needs to go. He has made so many poor choices for the studio. Leaving Twitch for Mixer. Pushing terrible changes to Realm Royale, killing the game. Pushing huge investment into mobile games(which all failed). Not giving Smite proper focus(moving it from UE3 to 4). Not properly supporting or encouraging content creators for years. He is also part of the reason Smite had poor server stability issues since he insisted they host their servers with INAP. INAP was known throughout the industry for poor reliability, but he refused to move since he was buddies with executives at INAP. I would see it as a huge red flag when a company keeps struggling to earn a new win under the same management. Laying people off is him admitting that he's failed as a leader, but won't take responsibility as one.

10000% this guy' has been lead to so many obvious and blatantly stupid mistakes that have hi-rez into being a failure that is barely alive. Both smite and paladins could have been market leads if they made smart decisions and actually improved their games. Hi-rez has always had bad management and it shows.

Glassdoor reviews confirmed this back in like season 4. Frequent mentions of internal testing yielding to a certain someone's ego, blowing company's revenue on trend-chasing pet projects. Investors and board hate him, but he owns the company and is impossible to reign in. I bet he'll be forced to sell a huge part of his stake by the state of Georgia if this doesn't change

Somehow the players and/or developers need to push him out. The CEO and all the horrible Higher-up decisions are the sole reason for almost every single L the Company has taken. And now their YEARS of poor decisions, mismanagement and horrible leadership has caused OTHER people to become affected. He says he takes full responsibility yet he's still the one sitting in his office making the decisions. It's pathetic.

Tldr of Stu's grovelling: - We announced Smite 2 way too early. In doing so, we put Smite 1 on life support, deleted the pro scene, and changed what was a slow decline into a rapid freefall. - We exacerbated this by repeating the exact same mistake by putting the alpha 24/7 way too early. This set expectations with the playerbase of it being not far off the quality of a full release game. - We knew Smite 2 wasn't close to ready to be fully released, but we treated alpha testing like a proper game instead of sticking to 'alpha = TESTING, testing = short bursts of availability like PTS cycles' and now everyone is bored of Smite 2 because it doesn't yet have enough content to be playable 24/7. - This is my fault, was very predictable, and completely out of the hands of everyone except senior management. But I'm going to drop the consequences on everyone else and avoid any consequences myself and tbh probably get a pay rise next year but it's okay because I said sowwy. Cope What a wonderful example of corporate leadership.

@mercurialfunk they could have held a tournament for a lot less than 300k. That's a lot of money for a tournament no one is really interested in because of how boring the game currently is at the moment. I don't care about the jobs being cut that's a fact of life it happens all the time, but the 300k is a waste and isn't help improve the game or bring interest to the game. yeah pretty much the reason why all companies are dogshit now, management is never held accountable for anything... They just blame the lower people for their mistakes, but shit runs downhill if there's shit all below it's all shit above. It's not like they had bad developers or casters or anything either... Just managed absolutely horribly, like smite is my favorite game as far as how it felt to play gods/characters... How their kits functioned and mastering them thousands of hours in when you understood all the little details of every god. Like i still don't know why the fck smite doesn't just have surveys for better matchmaking, like if you want harder games fill out a survey and if you don't give a crap don't then match the people with the closest levels of game knowledge together... Simple asfck, and can get people who don't understand what positioning and other basic things is out of matchmaking with people who played for 1,000s of hours of mastering those basics. - Or like tunnel vision, people who understand what tunnel vision is and accidentally do it are entire leagues better than those who just run it down chasing the first enemy to get baited to death. - or baiting fck i can keep going on and on with basics that people are completely oblivious too, but people who don't understand what baiting is getting absolutely manhandled by anyone patient who does and they usually cry "ohhh they are terrible all they do is run away" >.>

The big issue with pulling Smite 2 monetization is that the most avid Smite fans (and big spenders) likely make up a good chunk of those who switched over when 2 came out. Also nobody wants to spend a bunch of $$$ on a game that everyone knows will be sunset soon. The two concurrent games strategy isn't viable with their numbers and they have to know this. You need to force the Smite players to Smite 2 for this to have any chance.

It may not be the ONLY issue but it definitely is a factor in smite rapidly going south. How you release a game with limited Gods? Smite is known for having a large variety of Gods, all with different kits. Smite 2 should have never been released or announced at all if they didn’t have a good roster. At least half the Gods probably would’ve helped. Then they add 2 Gods every month or something which is ridiculous. It’s simple, less Gods, less skins, less money being brought in! IMO

I haven't played Smite since December 2020, so I know I haven't contributed much to the game company. I forgot exactly "why" I stopped playing, but I'm naturally a very casual person, with a very-easy chance to get angry at something. I spent 2,200 hours playing the game (which isn't a lot compared to most), and naturally I took many breaks from playing it. Once I was able to spend my own money on the game, I did it every so often. I didn't pour ungodly amounts into something like the Odyssey events or anything, but maybe once every 2 months, if that. It's not that I didn't have fun in the game; I'm pretty sure I did. It's just the amount of times I was having fun was outweighed by the times I was getting angry at/in the game, so I had to cut myself off from playing it. I do still watch Smite content creators playing the game, because they just scratch that itch for me. Loved the breakdown, Incon.

For the last two years, I spent almost no money on smite (just purchased the founder's pack for S2). I was quite disappointed with the pricing system, and with the announcement of S2 and a very sloppy alpha, i just didn't feel like spending more time on the game. Layoffs are a clear indicator of both business troubles. Both leadership greed and inability to hit revenue targets. Best of luck to the employees who lose their jobs, and I guess good luck Smite, your fate is shaky and unknown.

The game was so much better when it started. Then they started implementing too many League of legends game style into smite 1. All they needed to do to keep the game good was make more maps and rotate em instead of replacing em, add more characters as they've been doing and item balances as new characters get added. it could have been that simple. But making smite 1 into a 3d person league was a horrible direction..then they started losing players and so they added bots which ruined it more. Then they make a smite 2..like why? Horrible leadership in their development team.

To me this truly marks the end of Smite and Hi-Rez as a whole. I genuinely do not see how they’re going to come back from this whilst Smite 2 is not reaching expectations. Getting rid of such iconic names like Tina and Ena to me indicate MASSIVE troubles going on behind the scenes. In fact they got rid of a lot of art/creative team it seems, makes me wonder if they plan on switching to AI… if they do, yeah I won’t bother continue to even follow the development of Smite 2 and Hi-Rez games in general.

With only a pool of 20 gods, a paywall just to play, no monetization beyond the paywall and the immediate abandonment of SMITE 1, I was in awe by how terribly this was planned out. I'm honestly curious to know how they expected this to play out. Counter-Strike 2 was an even bigger graphical upgrade over its predecessor than SMITE 2 was over SMITE and yet somehow, Valve managed to allow everyone to keep their cosmetics, items, stats and achievements while keeping the game free-to-play.

I think it's not CEO's decisions that are ruining the game but the top managers and decisions makers. Look at this realistically, Stewie doesn't know much about game dedvelopment and I'm sure there are some bad BI engineers and data analysts showing him non-relevant data trying to cover up for their poor decisions. Anyway, unfortunately for all the people that are laid off I think it is the correct decision to focus on SMITE 2 mostly. Only decision here is, as you say Incon, releasing a "playable" gameto the public in this state and basically cutting off their money from Smite 1 by splitting the player base.

Smite 2 released too early and shouldn’t have been an Alpha; at least not one at its current state. They made a lot of bad calls and even now I’m not a fan. Dividing your player base and setting precedent that the old game is/will no longer supported appears to have turned off a lot of players. It may have also brought back some old and new who were willing to give it a try; however again, the state probably scared off possible numbers for their current. The real question is are they going to shut down smite 1 and paladins to keep this project alive and force the player base to move on. Seems like the most likely course of action as they keep putting their eggs in one basket. Who knows maybe they will bite the bullet and make the changes necessary to pull the fans towards it, without pissing them off further with more bad decisions.

Hi there, Destiny 2 player as well as smite player (i know I need more grass) I think one thing that people often look over is the state of moral in the studio after a round of massive layoffs. People feel a tremendous impact when good friends get smacked by those layoffs. And if it's like any thing I've seen come from Bungie, is content quality will sink. Not trying to blame anyone still working there. It's just human. People get depressed when something like this happens at their workplace. And the CEO will give absolutely 0 shits as they have a golden parachute.

I was a pretty heavy Smite 1 player, even put some money into unlocking skins and characters and all that. Was even a Tribes: Ascend player who put money into *that.* I loved it! Then I played a Smite game with a dude with an extremely Nazi name. I reported this to HiRez multiple times and I never, EVER heard anything back. Never got any confirmation that any steps whatsoever were taken. Moreover, when I posted this to the community, the majority of comments weren't "Oh wow, that's really bad." It was, "The Nazi played better than you." I haven't played one game since, and I have no plans to spend a penny on Smite 2. HiRez simply burned that bridge with me.

Yea this was an L post. This really has nothing to do with the topic and you're being offended at the internet being the internet. People made you quit a game, which is what they wanted. You seem like you're far too sensitive for the internet.
@FrostPDP

@@jetsettech8804 I mean, sure, you're right. Pointing out HiRez's failure to provide basic-level moderation as a gaming company is totally unrelated to their current inability to turn a profit on their game. It's not as if Hirez needs players to want to play their games or anything. Totally unrelated. Meanwhile, might I add, your post basically accepts Nazi bullshit as part of the world, as opposed to having any inclination that maybe the gaming company failing to turn a profit should stomp that out. Weird.

@@FrostPDP I didn't accept anything. I told you how it is. It's the internet. It will keep happening. If everything on the internet bothers you, then leave the internet. Something in the game bothered you? Leave the game. Don't cry about it on a video unrelated to it.
@FrostPDP

@@jetsettech8804You know what? You're right. You're telling me how it is: HiRez is fine with Nazi behavior and refused to do its job for game moderation. I shouldn't advocate for change or anything. I should be quiet. Let the Nazis have the game. That's what you're suggesting, isn't it? So isn't that accepting Nazis instead of fighting them? Again, weird how you're so okay with that. But NO WAIIII does the loss of paying players have anything to do with HiRez having financial problems, right? Those things are unrelated! (In case you can't tell through the sarcasm: Why shouldn't Hirez do basic moderation of suggestions about how to murder Jews, especially if it costs them players?)

*smite 2 releases August 27* Month later, CEO fires half of the company. The game is DEAD at this point. You mean to tell me after spending all the money i spent on Smite 1, to go to Smite 2 & get scammed because the gems aren’t really the currency of the game & you have to buy “diamonds” to obtain more in Smite 2 & on top of that…. you fire TINA?!?!? Glad i didn’t preorder or bought no pack. Dead game, with a dead brain CEO.

Oh a ceo is laying people off so he can keep his salary lol and everyone bashing smite 2 dont play it until its actually released problem solved... Announcing Smite 2 way to early into development and confirming Smite 1 skins will not carry over to smite 2 is a huge issue. It cuts off the player bases incentive to buy anything on Smite 1 cutting off revenue. Smite 2 being way to early into development got $30 from me day one of announcement just so I could have access to all the gods and see what they cook up. All the Pre-Alpha weekends were lackluster of anything remotely fun. 24/7 Live finally opens and the game is finally in a state where it should have been announced and Pre-Alpha weekends should have begun. The issue is the marketing strategy of Hi-Rez as a whole. Smite 2 has left a bad taste in Alpha weekend users mouths I can't get 1 of my roughly 10 smite playing friends to get on smite 2 for even 1 game. They have no interest in Smite 1 cause its a dead game at this point. They failed to make a good impression due to showing off a buggy mess which just brings the hype train to a screeching halt. "Every video game developer releases a game early so they can get money." But at what cost? They killed Smite 1, showed a mud pie to first time Smite 2 players that has left nobody I know wanting to play the game. Smite doomed itself. With Smite 2s blunders and people like Mast uploading Deadlock it left me and a couple friends to try Deadlock in Alpha. Thoughts after playing a couple games where, woah this is an alpha this is really polished and a lot of fun I'm very excited to see what they do with what they have. You show off a polished game which lacks some content and balancing and make a good impression people get interest in the project a lot more. Smite 2 Pre alpha weekend 1 treated us to a nice display of desynced autos, auto just don't feel right, button inputs feel delayed, servers don't work, can't rejoin the game your in, can't type to teammates, minion AI doesn't work in lane, minions can't even get to lane just chilling at jungle camps, etc, etc, etc. A lot of these issues have been corrected but nobody I know wants to touch the game with a 10-foot pole due to the Alpha weekend experience. What was Hi-Rez thinking? "Don't play it until its actually released." I don't think as many people are coming back as you think.

I am so glad I didn't spend a penny on smite 2. Smite 1 is going downhill, constantly leavers constant DCS. Terrible match making. The community is getting far too small for the match making to be balanced or fair anymore. Releasing and announcing smite 2 so early, when it's CLEARLY not ready was the biggest mistake they've made. People are now seeing other games and moving across, because they offer two games, one of which is now in freefall because of their new release, and their new release being so bad it's not worth it.

It's a games company - either it has games that make money or it doesn't and HiRez doesn't. Smite 2 is the hail mary but it's unlikely to take off, lets be honest. HiRez are in deep trouble and will go under in a year or two. You can't just blame the CEO either - it's hard to make a game that takes off, and HiRez tried several times to make another successful game, I am sure everyone worked really hard, but it just didn't happen. It's just life in a capitalist system.

Tbh smite 2 is 5 years too late the game is a shit show. Same problems as its predecessor bad matchmaking it won't survive a year. Hi rez are hoping thousands and thousands play it's not happening....
