Tbh even the lightnovels have some heavyyyy KumiRei undertones and Shuuichi is basically a non entity in the second year arc despite officially being Kumiko's 'bf. There's also such an immense parallel between Mizore and Nozomi with Liz and the Blue Bird story line ( those two are 110% represssedly infatuated with each other) and some of the concerns and feelings Kumiko and Reina express toward another. So even if "they're both straight" is the way it' supposed to be canonically read, no one with a proper pair of eyes can deny that KumiRei are something that's beyond friendship, how close they are even gets commented on in the books.

The way I see it, Reina just wanted to put Shuichi down. She understands Kumiko's true nature, and that Shuichi is the one whom really brings that out of her. Most women really don't like "spineless" men, but that's not really what's happening here, and Reina knows it too, but she's hoping to ruin his reputation with Kumiko..... so WHY am I still so attracted to REINA?!?! (dear God) It's always the ones I hate at first!! Giving grace to the bitches was a mistake!! "They're not trying to be bad," "they're just trying to compensate for their own shortcomings," "they are people too." I just don’t get what’s good with the Tsukamoto and Kumiko ship? I mean sorry but all Kumiko did when Tsukamoto was on screen was to either run away or just refuse his advances. I get what u r saying, in the ln its made pretty clear from the very beginning that kumiko had feelings for shuuichi, there were a lot of scenes in the ln which were skipped in the anime and they added a lot of yuri bait which where never there in the novel in the 1st place, now u can say that the maybe the anime and the novels are going in different directions but that's not the case, the movie chikai no finale made it pretty clear that shuuichi and kumiko love each other its just that the foundation in s1 and s2 is very bad, it's one of the rare times where I can safely say that kyoani fucked up I mean they pissed of both the kumi x rei and kumi x shuuichi shippers

It's the author pushing a relationship just because "they know each other...Even if they don't know each other very well and my protagonist need a bf...". Even the Reina's crush on the professor makes more sense and development. I prefer kumiko without a boyfriend, because it's okay, I can understand why Shuichi likes kumiko. But the series and the novel don't show me why kumiko likes shuichi. And that's extremely classic in straight series relationships. The ship between Reina and Kumiko is more platonic than romantic, meanwhile, the relationship between Kumiko and Shuichi is more romantic. Let people platonically love each other! This is literally just friendship throttled to the absolute maximum, these two are more romantically inclined to particular people! Reina's honestly just looking out for Kumiko as a friend since she didn't want a spineless guy to become her boyfriend, which is perfectly normal mind you. At least in my circle, we're very territorial when it comes to shit like this. And to the people who claim that Shuichi doesn't have much personality; he does, you just don't get to see it. The story takes place in Kumiko's perspective and she clearly does not pay much attention to Shuichi judging by her interactions with him, hence why he doesn't have much screen-time, but he does have a LIFE outside of Kumiko's perspective as seen in the movie. Compare that to Reina who is literally in Kumiko's circle of friends, and frequently interacts with each other as the best(est) of friends; so yeah, that argument is way too biased based on screen-time alone. You can't even use the "She said I love you to X" argument here, that kind of word has been so oversaturated that even friends use that on each other, which is still a sign of platonic love. There is sooo much more to love than just the mainstream forms that are featured in romance animes; "You inspire me" "I want to be with you" "Don't hurt yourself" "Love yourself" "This is for you" and soo much more. [I'm really more biased for the Shuichi and Kumiko thingy, due to the 'maturity' that they display, which is my kind of niche.]

I think i understand the yureak mindset on non-yuri wholesome anime now. -When two cute girls gets a lot of screen time together and are a growing relationship throughout the series; -When they appear to act like a couple on certain situations even though *good friends* generally do those things (traditionally); -When the male characters don’t really do much stuff to be compatible with the females (one major reason to trigger a yureak); -When those two girls tell they care so much for each other (yureak neuron activation); -When every wholesome interaction of the two girls appear so much it almost looks like they’re canon but are actually just like those friendship cartoons; They will do every possible whatever crap in order to satisfy themselves by theorizing, (not really scientifically) doing chemistry (holy devil though, good friends really do tend to act like couples but are really just acting like what would a family member do), become toxic to the authors of the anime for yuri-baiting them and expects that they will not follow the story of the manga/novel to satisfy them yureaks, and go as far as make a world where only those girls exist with no other people in their way (logically being obsessed). To every yureak that is triggered by this comment (or you shouldn’t be because these which I have written are only a tiny particle of solid in your brains), don’t try to call me toxic, because you’ve all also been way more toxic to us who just watch the anime (ship straightly) and go along with what happens. You yureaks have claimed victory over toxicity, obsessiveness, and every-whatever you know, leaving us who just goes along in the dust.
