My friend taught me a "cure" that has always worked for some reason: stand up, close your eyes and press your right index and middle finger (gently) on the eyelids and try to exhale (and put yourself in a zen-like state). I have no explanation as to why it works and even I was skeptical when this was taught to me, but it works!

Hey guys! Have been watching your show for a while now and wanted to say thank you. You guys don't have to always make videos or make sure there's consistent content, but you do and The Mythical Beasts appreciate it! I deal with depression and this show has actually helped me get out of the weird space I sometimes wake up in. I'm sure I'm not the only one out of all the people here, so thank you for that as well. Drinking some water from a glass with your head below your waste line (Bend over to do it) and hiccups will stop. It works 100% of the time for me. An ex-girl friend years ago taught me that little trick. At first I thought she was going to pull a prank on me, though. But it wasnt a prank, it actually worked. You've got nothing to lose - go for it.

Sometimes your body psyches you out and you think you've cured your hiccups, but they just resurface a minute later. When I try to get rid of my hiccups, I cough to test that they're gone. Almost every time I cough and there is no hiccup, then the hiccups are really gone. Also, I successfully cured my friend of hiccups by shouting "OH MY GOSH! DALEKS!" ;-D

I get bad hiccups a lot, so bad that they're extremely painful and almost make me throw up :( The only 2 ways I can get rid of them are ... Stretch my diaphragm as much as I possibly can while holding my breath, or watching a movie or video because it distracts me from the hiccups, and the hiccups will go away as soon as I get absorbed in whatever I'm watching. Water, sugar, or any other type of ways to get rid of hiccups doesn't work for me, and my hiccups can last anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour.
@ZoesZoo

I think I get hiccups by swallowing too much air into my stomach, like when I eat too fast or if I breathe funny, for example if I'm anxious, or nervous, or excited.

***** Why? It's not like they can do much about it, plus I'm able to get rid of them. Also, it runs in my family and all of us have been checked out; we get hiccups the normal way people get hiccups, it's just that ours hurt a lot because they're extremely big and loud :P Kind of makes for embarrassing public situations ...

My dad always tells that joke but he tells it differently. For him it goes: I was waiting in the waiting room of a doctor's office and I saw a nun run out screaming. I went and asked the doctor what was wrong. He said "well I told her she was pregnant." I was shocked and asked "Is she?" He replied "no but it sure cured her hiccups." I don't know why he tells it in the first person... also I always have to laugh a pitty laugh.

There once was a mystical land of yore, where donuts were the top inhabitant. They had a class system in which the top donuts were long, creme filled, topped, and had sprinkles, whereas the bottom was plain holed donuts. One of these donuts, his name was Joseph, was a plain. He had a crush on the most beautiful girl donut he'd ever seen, one with strawberry filling, chocolate glaze and an excess of sprinkles. Her name was Darmina. Joseph, the plain donut, worked up the courage to ask Darmina out. He thought Darmina was the greatest donut the world had ever seen. He walked up to her and said "Darmina, you are incredibly beautiful. Will you please go out with me?" and she replied "No, you are not high class enough." Saddened by this, Joseph went to his home and was consoled by his mother, but he was not giving up on Darmina. He worked and worked and worked hour after hour until he had enough money for a surgery, in which he was given a buttercream filling. He once again faced Darmina the day after. "I have been filled, now will you be mine?" Once more, she replied "No, you are not high class enough." Joseph was still not ready to give up. He worked more and more and recieved another surgery to give him sprinkles and glaze. He stopped Darmina in the park. "We are alike now, so will you be mine?" he asked. This time, she said "Yes." Excited, Joseph invited Darmina to the Donut's Ball that Saturday. There, they each took pictures together, and there was a long picture line. They headed to the restroom, and there were two long restroom lines. About an hour later, Darmina asked Joseph to get them a drink. And there, lo and behold, there was no punchline.

I use 1 tablespoon of Braggs Apple cider vinegar with "the mother".. basically just unfiltered vinegar. I find the stuff rather amazing. When I first started drinking pickle juice it was for cramps. It was the ONLY thing I did differently. About 6 months later I noticed that I hadn't been sick in a while. Normally I get colds pretty easily in the winter. A year later.. still nothing. 2 years later.. nothing. I finally ended up getting a sinus infection, but that.. well I have a history with those. Lol. Anyway, Sinus infections are the only sickness I've had in about 3 years.

The best way to get rid of the hiccups is to either get someone to ask you these questions or ask them to yourself. Note: You have to ask AND answer aloud. What's the color of salt? What's the color of water? What's the color of saltwater? What's the color of sand? Do you still have the hiccups?

It tricks you body into thinking its drowning by having the water cover the roof of your mouth and it regulates the diaphragm.
@EveHallows
@EveHallows 10 жыл бұрын
There's a sure way of stopping the hiccups instantly... but it's so hard to explain, because it happens internally. You have to be really aware of your own body and get the timing right. It's in the same line of being suddenly scared.. what do you do when you're suddenly scared? You gasp.. but you have to gasp RIGHT BEFORE your next hiccup or it won't work. What's happening inside, when you gasp at the right moment? That nerve is triggered, and at the same time you're pressing on the nerve with your full lung of air, which forces the pocket of air out from under your diaphragm. Hiccups gone

The best hiccup "cures" are just ones that are so complicated they make you focus intensely, which is why so many focus on either counting or doing something completely random (like drinking upside-down). By the time you're done, they are generally gone.

I am not one to try to get them, but I can tell I have been using a glass of water with a tiny amount of amount of vinegar, I use apple cider vinegar with the mother in it, I don't put much in the glass, less then a cap full. It will taste nasty some people will add honey. It was really disparate I'd use salad dressing that had vinegar in it. I find that this always works for me. I just relax and drink it.

i usually just take a glass of water and drink it while holding my nose, then once I'm done drinking just hold your breath for about 1 minute or until you cant hold it any longer. also breathe out slowly.

A friend once explained to me (and it made total sense to me and I feel I proved it for myself also) that the continuation of hiccups (after the first 1-3 of them) is completely mental! It is just a tic that your brain keeps sending for who knows why in order to hiccup. So, after I've had 1-3 of them, I just 'turn them off' and that works for me... I feel ya, Rhett! Yes, you and I are "abnormal" according to that 63 hiccups statistic, but I think it's preferred to having them uncontrollably. Also, most of these methods to get rid of them are just elaborate ways to get your mind completely on something else. This just proves that it's mental, IMHO.

My body seems to have adapted some weird kinda holding breath, kinda zoning out state whenever I get hiccups which gets rid of them within seconds every time. It's really hard to describe, so I'll just tell everyone here one really easy way of getting rid of hiccups that I guarantee will work every time: Get a glass of water and drink it from the part of the rim that's furthest away from you. So lean forwards and tilt the glass away from you so that when you drink, your head's upside down and the liquid pours onto the roof of your mouth. It's best if you're standing up while doing this. Works every time.

I believe the key is just to focus on something other than the hiccups. I usually drink upside down, cuz it takes some focus. In math class though, my teacher once shouted to a class mate that had the hiccups: "for extra credit, what's [2 digit number] times [3 digit number], in 10, 9, 8 etc..." he had to focus so quickly that he stopped having the hiccups.

When I get the hiccups I mix some vinegar and water, soak a sugar cube in the mixture, eat the cube and the hiccups are GONE. I don't know how it works, but it has something to do with the sweet/sour mix.

I used to get hiccups chronically and they could be so bad that they HURT. The 3 hiccup cures that work best for me are: 1) Take in a big gulp of air, hold your breath and then either drink water or swallow the air. 2) Eat a teaspoon of sugar all at once. 3) Fill up a cup of water. Bend over at the waist and drink the water from the opposite side of the cup you'd usually drink from. Weird...but it works!

In Dominican Republic we do something to stop hiccups: We take a hanging thread (of your own clothes), wet it whether with saliva or water and put it on our forehead. We use it mostly with babies and it definitely works (i've tried it and i have seen it working on babies).

I had hiccups problems when I was younger, each time it was hurting because my diaphragm streched a lot. It mostly lasted at least 30 minutes and the only thing I knew that worked out some times for me was doing something else and ignore my hiccups. But at school my friends found it funny and remembered me I had them, so I couldn't outstand my hiccups.

Take a deep breath. Hold for ten seconds. Without releasing that breath draw in more air (it won't seem like much) and continue holding it all. Draw in yet more air and hold five more seconds. Release it all. Works every time for me, and doesn't require supplies. (Bonus: Alleviate brain freeze by pressing the back of your tongue up into the soft pallet of your mouth.)

my hypothesis to hiccups is that its a rush of air from your lungs after a delayed respiration when you eat something dry or hard to swallow the brain does not anticipate the rush of air which causes some of the air to hit the wind pipe trying to escape which would explain why eating too fast or eating something dry makes you get the hiccups and also i my theory goes you can stop hiccup by taking long deep breaths which releases the trapped air, and also its next to impossible to make your self get the hiccup because your brain anticipates it thus allows the air to escape no problem.

When I was a teenager, I worked at a major craft store chain. We always got pretty cool people shopping there. This one day I had HORRIBLE hiccups. When I get the hiccups, it's almost violent. It hurts my stomach and it's SUPER loud and I can't stand it. (Thankfully, it's pretty rare that I get them.) This lady at my register suddenly asked me in a really aggressive/scary voice to do this math problem, like "What's 456 times 37?" And I was a bit taken aback so I went to do the math problem in my head and I finally got the answer. Then she smiled and said "Your hiccups are gone, aren't they?" And they WERE! We both cracked up laughing.

The thing that makes you hiccup is when the diaphram spasms to cure it all you need to do is hold your breath and swallow 3 times. by the way if you didnt know the diaphram is the muscle that moves up and down when you breath, it is situated under the lungs

The Vegus nerve impacts a lot of different areas of your body. If someone feels really faint when they see blood, that's a Vasovagal response. One day, I fell on the stairs and my ankle twisted and I felt a snap. My vision got a little blurry, I felt dizzy, and there was a loud buzzing in my ear. Vegus nerve! I also had a response when I was getting a mole sliced off. I was given a local but I could still feel movement and pressure so it was really freaky. My brain decided to freak out. It's not just hiccups!

Since hiccups are often happening because the body thinks there is not enough oxygen, controlled breathing helps .inhale thru your nose and exhale thru your mouth but exhale longer then you inhale. A lot of these methods target you breath more like the scare thing for example .
