In 1975, aged 14, I got a job in the largest gunshop in Norway working beside school to finance my rifle shooting, unable to buy handguns for myself due to my young age. A very good customer wanted a 4" mod 28-2. We went through app 12 - 15 revolvers and he bought the best and added a custom grip. Fast forward 10 years and I walked in to another shop and spotted a 28-2 4" with similar custom grips. I bought the 28 on the spot. Checking serial numbers, it was the same gun. I still have it app 40 years later next year, and 50 years after it was The Chosen One. In 1981 I bought a 57 in .41mag with 8 3/8" barrel for metallic silhouette. That revolver is long gone, but I have a mint 29-2 with 6.5" barrel in the wooden box 😊 I just love S&W P&R revolvers.

I came very close to buying a .41 MAG. Elmer Keith came out with articles about the 44 mag in the NRA American Hunter magazine. Keith rant and raved about the 44. A few months later I picked a new Ruger Black Hawk, 7.5" barrel, single 6. I carried it on duty in the 80's and a little with USDA when I went federal. Later with age I didn't like the bulk and weight so went with the S&W SD 40. I still have that 44, many many reloads through it and never a issue with it. I bought basically for wild boar hunting in Santa Barbara, California. I carried it as a side arm always in Tahoe during deer season as back...for any reason. It's put a lot of meat in the freezer and Paid for itself. Really cheap to reload, I find IMR 4227 power to be the best load with a 180 or 240 gr Hornady and a standard large rifle primer, no magnum stuff. . I enjoyed your story about working at the gun store and the .41 MAG 👌. Strange, I've been thinking about that caliber again, I may still pick one up... Happy Thoughts, thanks 👍

$385 in 1974 is the equivalent of $2,465 today so that was definitely not a cheap gun. New Model 29s on S&W's website list for $1,379 so they are almost half the price of what they used to be, adjusted for inflation.

January 6th 2007 the channel started. Its less than 3 weeks from being 18yrs old. This year, Children born after you started the channel are literally about to be adults. Next year its the ones who weren't even conceived yet. The year after that its the big 20. And the year after that those kids start turning 21. an accomplishment right up there with the number of subscribers you have anymore. Is that you helped teach multiple generations. I wasn't even quite 18yet when you started this channel. And found you around that first year.... im now going on 36 years old and brushing off the old toys that were sitting for a decade, and im getting ready to start teaching my 3 kids saftey. Ages 9, 10, and 15. Ive got a playlist starting up including the 5+ rules of handling them. Followed by a test ill design, To help it stick. (Rule #5 is never fully rely on a saftey device for the same reason you carry a soare tire. You never know when, which time, or how a mechanical failure will happen. When it fails the first time. its probably just going to happen out of nowhere.) And i do have 1 or 2 more points i like to add on to it as well.

As I reach my mid 50's, I'm going down a list to reacquire many of the guns that I traded away foolishly when I was younger. So, I feel your pain when you mentioned trading away your Python and Model 19. The top of my list is a 6" blued Model 29. I'm going to pay through the nose for it, but it'll only get more expensive if I wait any longer. Congrats on the anniversary!

We used to frequent Battleground Armory. We were into muzzle loaders at the time. My brother bought a Model 29 and I bought a Model 19 in the mid-70’s. I reroofed Mr. Charlie’s house and refurbished his front porch in the early 80’s. We miss Mr Charlie and his lovely wife, whose name escapes me at the moment. Great memories!

I inherited a model 29 from my dad when he passed, he liked the big calibers. Most accurate handgun I own. Qualified (twice) NRA pistol instructor on it because first time instructor didn't believe my shots, made me do it again. As I started shooting I turned to the instructor and said, "there seems to be a problem, I keep shooting through the same hole." To which he said, "you're good, you can go."

To the people watching this video who reload... I used to run 4 tire shops and I had 5 gallon buckets full of lead weights. One day a reloader came in, mentioned it to me and suggested I use them for reloading. So I called up quite a few of the Gunners I know and they initially took 28 buckets full of lead weights. Then as my tire shops in increased in volume, reloaders coming back and getting more. Anyway that's where you guys can get lead for reloading.

I don't have something like that with that age but I do now have my dad's 3 screw Blackhawk from the 1960's. It has what looks like hand carved grips on it to tame the recoil some. 6 inch barrel.

I do love my Smith and Wesson Model 29-2 8and 3/8" Blued, pinned, recessed, 44magnum in the wooden blue felt lined presentation box.

I like how the specifications note the overall length with the middle length barrel so you can easily subtract or add the difference to find the others.

Still looking good and still shootin good Hickok. Firearms keep you young. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and John. I saw John a few years ago at a comedy show and still have the autographed Strain 100 t-shirt. BTW, I hope John is still doing his comedy, he was great.

You’ll never feel defenceless and weak when walking at night with that big loaded model 29 Smith & Wesson .44 magnum revolver.
