I wonder how much is it youth, or how much is it "not ready barrels" as in the wood wasn't exactly dry before cooperage? I know that's something The Whiskey Vault guys mention on a lot of craft bottles, where the wood used in the barrels isn't completely dry, hence the grassy sap green grain note (insert Letterkenny 'Allegedly" here). Just some food for thought

I mean this sounds a lot like spirits of french lick. I love spirits of french lick. I feel like theres this massive stigma against grain notes at this point. Sometimes i like a bready, buttered corn whiskey. Definitely not everybodys thing, but the question to me is, does it taste bad, or does it taste grainy. Those arent necessarily the same thing.
@lonewanderer36032 жыл бұрын
Say French Lick again.
@TheBourbonWrench2 жыл бұрын
But then again, what’s “good” or “bad” is also subjective; so to some, grain could comply be “bad.”
@LeatherDaddy972 жыл бұрын
@@TheBourbonWrench thats true, but ive also seen some people go "its grainy therefor its shit". Grainy doesnt mean bad necessarily.

I agree....I have the Batch 2 and tried it several times, only to keep finding that youthful note. If it had 2-3 more years in the barrel, maybe

Haha great review had me laughing it’s junk but you did great dancing around it

Here’s the thing. I like to give things the benefit of the doubt. I’ll say somethings bad if I truly think it is. I don’t hate this bottle so I didn’t want to just bash it into the ground. But I’ll be honest I had some restraint when it came to what’s in the bottle vs the price. It’s just not right.

I have batch 5 and it is a very different bourbon. I get a strong raisin note that is present on the nose and palate. I think it is an interesting bottle but not one I would replace when it's empty. That said, I think these bottles are super small batch and over time these will probably get a lot better and I could see myself buying a different series.

I like my mini wheats frosted and my dough cooked. But I'm syre the whiskey will get better as they gain some age. We'll see. Thanks for the review Trev.

One more thought. doesn't seem like a 50-60 bottle is turning into the norm or a 50-60 is the new 25-35 bottle
@TheBourbonWrench2 жыл бұрын
If that’s the case; I’m not okay with it. The standard shouldn’t be that expensive. It’s absurd. $20 bottles can give a lot of expensive bottles a run for their money and that’s the way it should be. There’s zero reason why we should accept that as the norm

The price definitely influenced how I perceived what I was drinking. Should be such a disparity of price and flavor in a new upcoming brand
@markwood24522 жыл бұрын
Basically it’s young and overpriced. A growing trend in the whiskey world. I’m no longer buying anything that can’t provide at least a 6yr age statement. 8-12 is preferred tho.
@TheBourbonWrench2 жыл бұрын
Yep, no qualms with putting out young whiskey as you go. But the price is a deal breaker. Like, one argument would be “well if we put out young cheap bourbon; no one will buy it” and the other side though is “we overprice our bourbon and no one will come back”
@jasono.16292 жыл бұрын
I’m right there with you Mark Wood, that is why I stopped buying any craft whiskey I only buy from the major distillers now and as you said 7-8+ years. I don’t care if it’s made grain-to-glass on a farm, if it’s family owned, someone well known was involved, etc. I like well aged bourbon best.
@DBTdad2 жыл бұрын
@@jasono.1629 testify! Stories and woke virtues don't matter, neither does bottle ascetic, the reputation or hotness the blender/distiller. FOMO drummed up by the whiskey reviewing falls on my tired, craft disappointed palate. The legacy bonded products are dependable, tasty, and well valued.

whiskey is made from grains. grain flavors =/= bad, but different. if you're expecting most of the flavor to be barrel then you're in for a bad time.
@TheBourbonWrench2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. But then again, I don’t think young whiskey = grain. Old forester 100 has zero grain notes to me and I’m pretty sure it’s pretty young. I just think most people associate grainy notes with younger bourbon, and a lot of them don’t like. For better or worse. Everyone’s palate is unique to them though so at the end of the day, people just gotta try it for themselves!

I get people wanting to immediately jump on the Jackie train... but it should be out of support for their future, not expecting a premium product out of the gate. it's gonna take a few years for this to mature like any craft bourbon. Like u said it's a small distillery and they are in the beginning stages. I don't know what people expect from such a young product. She's been there what 3-4 months now? I'm sure she's doing the best with what she has for now but im looking a few years ahead
@TheBourbonWrench2 жыл бұрын
And you gotta think; they been aging that whiskey for years before Jackie even came into the picture at all. Bourbon takes TIME; a lot of time. Just gotta be patient
