The song, Dancing Through Life has Fiyero singing the line, “Life is painless, for the brainless.”

@@rlacksgh9673 True, I've never actually seen the Broadway show so I'm unfamiliar with regards to when songs are done in the show. I can imagine it'll be in Part 2 of Wicked. It's still a bit of foreshadowing as to his eventual fate though.

In the Broadway stage version, one of Fiyero’s dance move in “Dancing through life” looked like a scarecrow hanging on a pole.

So many in references in just that song, "Life is fraught-less, When you're thoughtless", "Mindless and careless". I love every time there's a reference like this to any of the character's future. In The Wizard and I, "a celebration throughout Oz, that's all to do with me", "I'd be so happy I could MELT!" "When people see me they will scream". Sorry for the rant, just love it to so much

The silver slippers are a nod to the wizard of oz book. The movie changed Dorothy’s slippers to ruby red. It’s believed that the silver slippers are a metaphor for the silver standard. The idea being Dorothy spends all of this time following the yellow brick road (gold) to the emerald city (a city of green representing currency) to realize all she needed to do was trust in her slippers (adopting the silver standard to back the dollar).

Also in the original Wizard of Oz, you can see the red and white striped socks when her feet curl after the shoes are removed from the wicked witch of the east and in Wicked Nessa Rose wears red stripes, ex: in the scene where her father is having a heart attack as she turns toward them in her wheel chair, she’s wearing a white dress and at the hem are red stripes.

4:48 he’s also listed as “featured” in the song No One Mourns the Wicked. So if anyone who didn’t know it’s him just looked at the list of singers in that song, it would be a spoiler.

The only reason the slippers are silver instead of red is because Warner Brothers, which owns MGM’s entire catalogue, owns the rights to the ruby slippers until 2038 when the trademark expires. Disney paid a lot of money to MGM in 1985 to use them in Return to Oz, which at the time was a box office bomb. In the stage play, they turn red (spoilers) when Elphaba enchants them. It will be interesting to see if that is incorporated into part 2. Though if it is, it’s probably temporary since we’ve already seen the silver ones on Dorothy’s feet in the trailers. Though, who knows, trailers can have different scenes. Maybe with all the money this movie has made, they can afford the royalties. I’m wondering if Wicked will have any productions past 2038, and if so will they switch to the ruby slippers. Personally, if WB was smart they would just let Wicked use them since it is bringing back nostalgia for the OG 1938 film.

@@forrestdupre87yep. Because they are actually suppose to be silver. They were never ruby. Only in the 1939 movie. And BTW. That movie is not the OG. It’s an adaption and actually not a faithful one. It took A LOT of liberties with the story, including the main idea that it was all a dream. In the books, OZ is a real land.

In Frank L Baums book they were silver, as the other poster said, they were made red by mgm for the wizard of Oz so they'd stand out with the technicolor technology they used at the time in 1939

@TherealRNOwwfpooh 7 күн бұрын
@@theturtlearchives Not completely. Dorothy Gale in _Wicked_ will be younger than Judy Garland was when she played her at age 16 (although they nonethelesss tried to make Judy's version of Dorothy appear younger in the MGM film anyway). She''ll be wearing Nessarose's Silver Shoes NOT the Ruby Slippers (who were already given a passing nod during _Popular_ during G[a]linda's "I'll show you what shoes to wear" line) and even parts of the _Wicked_ lore itself will be altered (For example, in the 1995 novel by Gregory Mcguire, Nick Chopper is still the Tin Woodsman & Fiyero is NOT the Scarecrow, as these were character altering decisions made by the 2003 stage musical that the theatrical films are also adapting, yet in the 2003 musical, Dorothy is but a mere shillouette in shadow, but she will be on-screen visibly for the film adaptation & Scarecrow! Fiyero will NOT reconnect with Elphie at Kiamo Ko post-melting like he does in the stage musical, because he was already seen skipping down the Yellow Brick Road next to the transformed Boq Woodsman as the Tin Man, the fully-grown Cowardly Lion [who is a full-on CGI Lion, as opposed to Bert Lahr in real lion skin costuming with prosthetics ala the 1939 MGM film], and of course, the displaced Kansas farm girl carrying both her wicker basket & Elphie's charred broomstick, as her terrier dog Toto follows along behind).

It's not overnight... while the story doesn't explain exactly how much time passes, it's implied that enough time elapses for the cub to grow into an adult lion by the time The Wizard of Oz takes place.

Oz the Great and Powerful has nothing to do with Wicked or The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. It's its own thing. It was an attempt by the Walt Disney company to start a new franchise. It didn't work out. But they made up their own story for that franchise. It has no connection to Wicked, except for the fact that they are both made up backstories for the characters of L. Frank Baum story.

This is only _Wicked_ canon. It's NOT canon to the L. Frank Baum book, where The Wicked Witch of the West is undoubtedly evil & NOT some woebegotten misunderstood "beautifully tragic" protagonist (In fact, _Wicked_ is what kick-started the trope of rehabilitating villains), has more witch familiars than just the Flying/Winged Monkeys (these [wolfhound Killjoy & his pack are beheaded by the Tin Man's sharp axe blade, the murder of crows are themselves murdered by NOT Fiyero novel Scarecrow fatally snapping their necks, and the swarm of bees die once their stingers break off after trying to harm the tin body of the Tin Man while Dorothy, Toto & Cowardly Lion are hidden beneath the straw of the taken-apart Scarecrow, who is put back together after the fact] are in the _Wicked_ novel, but were omitted from the _Wicked_ stage musical, both for time condensing reasons & because Fiyero becomes the Scarecrow in the _Wicked_ stage musical & its follow-up film adaptation, just as the _Wicked_ stage musical & its follow-up film adaptation also merged munchkin Boq & OG Tin Woodsman Nick Chopper into a singular composite character named Boq Woodsman, akin to how both the 1939 MGM film & all versions of _Wicked_ merged together the two Good Witches -- Tattypoo Locasta as The Good Witch of the North & Glinda the Good as The Good Witch of the South -- into the singular composite character of Glinda, The Good Witch of the North, who is also known as G[a]linda Upland when first introduced in the _Wicked_ stage musical & its follow-up film adaptation), is NOT green-skinned (she instead "melts aways like brown sugar", so at least, casting a black woman [Cynthia Erivo] to potray Elphie has some kind of full-circle moment, albeit a cautionary, slightly racist one), and is a elderly, hunchbacked crone with a single telescopic eye, while the other one is covered by an eye patch. Everything that most people know about The Wicked Witch of the West, in terms of popular culture, stems from the 1939 MGM portrayal by Margaret Hamilton (Including her humanization of the character role she played, which ultimately led Gregory Mcguire to write the 1995 ADULT novel "Wicked: The Life & Times of The Wicked Witch of the West" in the first place) or Idina Menzel's Original Broadway Cast performance as the originator of the revisioned character on the musical stage when _Wicked_ hit Broadway in 2003.

Tell that to the marketing team/production department. They've always wanted & tried to connect the two, despite the fact that the 1939 MGM film is owned by Warner Bros. & _Wicked_ as an IP is under the banner of Universal Studios.
