I have built several automotive engines over the years and I have always used nothing but COMP Cams and the end results have been fantastic! Thanks to the use of carefully selected parts my engines have held up for long periods of time and that resulted in me having several return customers.

Fantastic series of videos. Times are good for learning as so many talented engine builders really seem to enjoy teaching. Great job everyone

Going to build a 421 SBC. I'm convinced now that I will go with a Comp Cam. I hope that I can get Billy's stamina of approval before I buy it. Thanks for the great video.

I’d enjoy adding some input to this pod. I’ve worked performance engine building for years. I’ve met many of you guys. But ED ISKY is a special guy. Met about 20 years ago. He was in the shop I worked in then. Really cool guy. This pod is awesome.

Ed is great! He turns 100 this weekend.

Yes I know. Happy Birthday ED. I met him and Ralph Johnson. They came to our shop for a few years during PRI IN INDY. 👍🏻

Hi Joe, Lake, Billy. Love your shows very much. I had a question. I recently did a rebuild on an 05 frontier w a 4.0 vq40... All stock. I used a premium ring set from "sealed power" set #1010. The top ring is steel/chrome, the 2nd is ductile. Do think there's any disadvantage to that? Should I have used something other than steel top? It runs fine and like-new compression. But as far as cylinder wear or heat transfer or ring/cylinder mating..... Do u feel I would have any concerns or is this just fine? Thanks so much... Love u guys

I don't know why they don't have any " Street" selections in their "Ring selector" page? Just says - Circle track, Drag racing and Diesel/Marine.

I've believed in surface finish & material properties for interacting parts for 20+ years but I'm glad to hear it's being proven in the real consumer level world now.

I disagree. The OEM did start using roller cams because of the emissions requirements adverse effects on engine oil. Lake Speed Jr knows that.

As intake VS exhaust valves are different weights, Why are we not using different spring rates ? May be a new selling pitch for Comp cams... "Select Spring Pressures" SSP's... Do I get a free cam ? Ha
@TotalSeal2 жыл бұрын
LOL, but seriously, that’s an interesting idea.

Are total seal or comp cams using electro-burnishing yet or nah?
@TotalSeal3 жыл бұрын
The high energy polisher is a type of burnishing, and both Total Seal and Comp Cams use that technology.

There is nothing wrong with 5/64" ring set and a Flat tappet camshaft. Ran my small block Chevy with them in my daily driver for 60,000+km's drive it everywhere. that one turned to 8500rpm with a $66 flat tappet camshaft, the other 7500rpm with the roller camshaft, both using miss matched components. Both Way over the intended rpm range. both Engines have 5/64" ring sets. The 379ci Small Block on my KZbin runs Comp Cam and Springs and total seal file fit 1/16" 1/16" 3/16" ring set. All of my Engines are low budget builds, not sponsored.
@TotalSeal3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments, but a 1.2mm ring set does not cost any more than a 5/64th set. The thinner ring will be way more efficient and the cylinder bore wear will be less.
