Memes aside I’m glad MGR has had a resurgence in popularity, it’s always been viewed highly among hack n slash fans but not so much by general gaming fans. It also helps that the game has a top tier soundtrack, apparently it was the composers first time working on a metal soundtrack and what a great first time it was.

In 2013 it was basically the savior of character action games as DmC: Devil May Cry released a bit earlier and Ninja Gaiden 3 released the previous year and effectively killed those series for a while (in the case of Ninja Gaiden it’s still dead). Then the Jetstream and Blade Wolf DLC were just the icing on the cake.

From the gameplay, the characters, the story, the pacing and especially the music, all of them just hit the mark for me. This is one of the few games I would genuinely put at a 10/10. I think Metal Gear Rising is simply a once in a generation masterpiece, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart. I haven't seen any other game that can introduce a final boss in the last 30 minutes of the game, yet they made his dialogue and personality so iconic, making him one of the most memorable bosses in gaming.

@Upcycle Shoes a lot of people, even longtime players, don't seem to know there's an easy way to be precise with blade mode. when you're angling your attack with the right stick, you can press one of the attack buttons to cut along that exact angle without snapping the stick back into place and screwing up the index. if you wanna do it more than once along the same axis though, you have to wait until the animation finishes. when I realized this, it made using blade mode so much more simple

One of the kickers about zandatsu is that you're not slowing down time. From the point of view of the surrounding enemies, your arms and sword turned into a blurry blending machine and it's just slow from Raiden's pov Also Saucy Jack was a nickname given to what was considered a copycat Jack the Ripper, so Armstrong saying that could be a jab at "You're not the real Jack the Ripper. Give him to me."

Awesome to see the end credits song getting some love. Easily one of the more thematically powerful songs in the game, especially since it covers Raiden's situation after everything's done (and how it went unaddressed since we never got a sequel). It sticks with me a lot even though you can't associate it with a cool gameplay moment like all the other songs.

One thing I would like to add is that the song lyrics reveal some extra details about the bosses and their motivations. Let's take a look Mistral's song (A Stranger I Remain) for example. The song is about how once she was lost, but then she finally found a true purpose for her life. The purpose in this case is her newfound love for a special someone which, in turn, gives meaning to the conflict she's fighting (It's heavily implied that Armstrong is the one she loves). Jetstream Sam's song lyrics (The Only Thing I Know for Real) highlight his own internal conflict about fighting Raiden. He purposefuly let go of who he was, but at the same time, he ashamed of the things he's doing. Yet, he keeps doing it because he can't imagine himself doing anything else.

These MGS branch out vids are really getting me interested in the franchise. And I now understand why Raiden is such a good character and would you ever consider making a video about Raidens life story, if there's enough to tell I've never been interested in MGS till your videos about the franchise. Love em all keep up the awesome work.

I think the slower codec calls where you're forced to a slow walk happen so the game has the time to load the next area. Because otherwise you'd be speeding into an unloaded area with that speed

i feel like the boss themes tell a better story then the gameplay look at sam, once he loses his sword the words in his theme goes away and the words really show what happened to sam how he lost his identity by joining arm strong and losing him self while climbing the mt of success

I still wonder what's the reaction from MGR devs when they realized their game gets more popular 9 years later 😂 Metal Gear Rising might not the best, but it satisfy everything almost we all looking for, badass music, badass gameplay, interesting and cheesy characters, story and politics that ring true to this day.

Earlier this year I decided to track down an old 360 copy of Rising for my Series X. I will fully admit that it was tHe MeMeS that piqued my interest. I was having fun enough going through it, but then I got to Mistral's fight and paid a bit more attention to her song. It sounded like it was actually being sung from her point of view. After I beat her, I looked up a lyrics video to her song and was floored. It really _was_ from her point of view. Then I looked up Blade Wolf's song and it was _also_ from his point of view. That was when I realized I was playing something truly special. I have _never_ played a game where all the songs in a soundtrack actually tell the views and backstories of the bosses. It's such a unique way to expand the story. I've replayed the game once so far, but I've listened to the OST so many times now that I have almost every song memorized. Collective Consciousness is such a scarily relevant song, but I would expect nothing less of a Metal Gear game. Gives me chills every time I listen to it.

Never would I have thought the halo guy would make a video about MGR, but I’m glad he did. As for the codec calls that bring you to a standstill, they’re there to cover up the loading of the next section. It loads after the first few lines, but it’s there to make the loading seem less and to add some extra narrative there. It’s annoying for running through again, but it is skippable.

Head canon: while the orchestrated score of the game is an overlay, the soundtrack (the rock music) is diegetic; it's a playlist running on Raiden's internal sound system.
