Thank you so much for this, my guy! Just got into macos a couple of days ago. In my case, my desktop icons actually disappeared. There were still in the finder so I knew they must be just hidden somehow. I tried ticking and unticking the desktop option on the icloud settings. No luck. Then I came across your video. I thought maybe I could just reverse whatever it is you're doing. And voila! Great content!

If you work in the terminal frequently (which I do), why not write an alias in .zshrc? alias desktop_hide='defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop false; killall Finder' alias desktop_show='defaults write com.apple.finder CreateDesktop true; killall Finder' If you don't want to do that and the history of your last commands is quite long, you can use ctrl + r to recursively search through your history and find any command there. A third option might be using the script editor.

Is there any way to just kill icons on a single workspace (i.e. Desktop 1 or Desktop 2) while leaving them present on another. I don't mind having the icons visible on my main desktop, but would like to have the option to have one that's 'clean.' Thanks!

Thanks for the video. Helped me a lot. One thing I’m trying to do and hopefully you can help me out on this. I just downloaded Acrobat Adobe, the premium version I got from college. Although the app is already installed, I’m still having this “Acrobat Installer” icon in my desktop. I tried to remove it from my desktop but it was not possible, also tried to move it to a a folder but still does not allow me to. It’s really bothering me in my pretty organized desktop. Please help 😢

Write click on the icon and select: Eject “Acrobat Installer”. I hope that was helpful. Regards

Hello TD, thank you for the information. I have a problem that I'm wondering if you could help me solve. All the icons on my desktop randomly disappear, with the exception of the external SSD drive icon for the backup on time machine, and SD card icon inserted in the SD card port. I was about to restore from time machine but I changed my mind and decided to restart the Mac first, so before I restart I begin to close all open applications. When I close a Word document all icons come back, this has happened 3 times. When the icons disappear from the desktop I can't even seen them in the desktop folder in Finder. I checked the RAM and it's not being overused. It's a 2014 Mac mini running Big Sur 11.5.2 with 16 GB of RAM. Any suggestions or tips? Thank you very much in advance, Luis

It would be cool if there was an app to make any folder the desktop.. this way you can temporarily start with an empty desktop/folder.. to which you can add links/files (icons) and then revert back to the original desktop. I do want to hide my original desktop icons. but I also want to have some desktop features like adding files i’m working with to the new desktop. Any ideas if there is an app out there that can do this ?
