I have the non "pro" version of this device as I didn't really figure I'd use the balanced output. Really great little player. Good sound, good build, nice screen, lots of features, and some pretty respectable power for such a small thing. I'm able to power all my full sized over ear headphones with ease, though, I don't have anything super innefecient.

The Periodic Audio Rhodium is a good detailed, balanced sounding dongle. The NextDrive Spectra X is another favorite option of mine. As for desktop dac/amp I have very limited knowledge. This is the only piece of hardware I am lacking in my setup is a DAP. Seeing as I don't mind the inconvenience of a phone OTG to a good DAC to a decent headphone amplifier(which I feel I have already) do you even see the need in adding a DAP like this for any reason other than convenience? Im one of those kind of people that don't mind running all those wires, lol. I would rather invest my money in improving my sound vs boosting convenience. Thanks. A DAP preserves phone battery if you stream or listen to downloaded music with a dongle. Also DAP can be connected to amps just like a phone can. Depends on your usages.

Definitely like the versatility it offers with the LDAC. Plus between some new cables(unreal how expensive they get) and my new HIFIMAN the wife probably would be mad if I decided to get another piece anytime soon lol. Q1 has slightly warmer, less detailed sound. Both are excellent value. I'd pick the AP80 Pro over Q1.

Hi! Just found the channel! I have the AP80 and the R3 Pro Sabre. The hardware is really nice, but I can't help but feel let down by the user interface on Hiby OS. It's just full of bugs and quirks.

If the IEM sounds good and has plenty left on the volume knob at normal listening levels then balanced isn't necessary but could enhance the experience.

Unless it's a planar don't bother. Planars can do better with higher voltages. But that is just my own personal experience

I'd recommend contacting Hidizs customer support for troubleshooting assistance. Or purchase an SD card and transfer files after you format it with the AP80 Pro.

DAP is a digital audio player, the AP80 Pro reviewed is one. An IEM is an in-ear monitor or an earphone, a device used to listen music from a DAP.

Hi, a very informative review. I have question if that's ok. I use my current Cowon Plenue to listen to podcasts and radio drama in the car - does Hidizs player remember the last played track at the point of power down (i.e. 40 minutes in) and can you manually set the time elapsed using the slider on the touchscreen? To be honest, I don't recall. I've not used it in quite awhile as I use my Hiby R5 Gen 2. But if my memory serves me correctly, it does but I'm not fully sure. Sorry

The Hiby remembers the track but not the time in the track. Yes you can scroll times of track but not when locked.

Mine didn't come with a SD card.. So I bought one,. I still can't transfer music onto it.. Keeps saying "There's a problem with the device, please scan device." so I do just that and it says no problems found.. It still don't work.. So I unplug it and re plug it in and it says the same thing, "There's a problem with the device, please scan device" I do,. then says No problems found.. HAHAHA well make up your F*cking mind then? I've never had problems using cheap $20 mp3 players.. Then I spend $170 on this and it don't work... Does it matter what SD card I use? I thought they were all the same...

It's a very finicky process. I had to transfer music several times before it worked. The manual has very specific process. Make sure to format your card to the AP80 Pro before transferring music.

Don’t buy it!! Bluetooth sucks with iPhone, hidisz cable to connect to iPhone doesn’t work which they know but keep selling it anyways. On/of volume wheel lasted 4 months, not possible to turn it on anymore. Don’t waste your money on this!!!
