Thank you for this video Paige! I am a therapist myself and have elevated blood pressure in a doctor's office. We were always been told to try to relax yourself before such as deep breathing, meditation, etc. It seems to work for a bit but in the doctor's office, it goes up anyway. I think you are one of the first therapist suggested to understand the automatic conditioned fear response instead of trying to calm yourself. This makes sense to me. Thank you.

I had this in a big way. What I hear when i'm in the doctors office is like 'please relax while I put this tarantula on your arm...oh your reading is a bit high not to bad but a bit elevated, also your pulse rate is high have you been running to get to the appointment'? Couldn't even look at our home blood pressure monitor it took me months to agree for someone to take it (a nurse by training) at home. First reading a bit high but less than in a medical office which caused me to relax. Next reading was perfectly normal pretty much 120/80 subsequent readings normal in a relaxed setting. I wonder how many medical professionals are aware of white coat syndrome.

I developed this the first time when I had a high reading before surgery, which I didn’t end up doing because I had just so much panic that particular morning, it was an elective surgery to get my gallbladder out due to stones, which now I have to get it out here in about a month, but my problem is ever since that visit I get so much anxiety before taking my blood pressure even at home because of the anticipation of the higher reading. Any advice to overcome this, so I can at least take my blood pressure at home without so much anxiety spikes? Thanks so much.

It sounds like panic set this whole reaction off for you. I am so sorry. Anxiety symptoms and these spikes associated with anxiety cannot harm you and this reaction is very common. You will though, want to practice taking blood pressure readings at home for at least a week, so that you can extinguish the fear at home. Then, you will need to explain to your doctors what happened and show them normal readings from home. If you continue to avoid all readings, then your anxiety will continue. I suggest taking readings twice a day, at different times for at least a week or two, until you notice the anxiety has resolved.

Hi Arjun. Ollie is on strike with the rest of the actors in the US. I told him that he was only an extra and he is demanding star pay and ownership of any content where he appears. I just cannot meet his demands 😂

Aloha. I believe in cellular and energy memory. Maybe at some level we are remembering another lifetime where doctors sawed your leg off or used leaches and blood letting to cure your ailments. Or maybe you were very sick and in pain long ago. I believe we are the culminating being to date of all soul work and we carry all that our soul was in our body throughout life times. Food for thougjt?

Hi Trisha. There is something to being born with certain fears. But I sure hope people are not born with those kinds of fears. But, it makes sense that people could develop a fear of doctors offices and the people in them when their first encounters were often getting poked with needles as babies and children. Who knows 🤷♀️

Hi Paige! I love how you mentioned the issue with white coat syndrome as I definitely have this. The thing is that I have anxiety in general surrounding blood pressure so even at home when I take a reading I feel anxious and it’s elevated. While I have improved a lot over the past month, I feel like I have plateaued somewhat l. I am a healthy 25 year old male who exercises religiously and has drastically improved their diet over the last couple of months. I had been exercising for years but my diet could’ve improved so that is what I’ve focused on. I just don’t know if its anxiety that is causing my elevated BP (this is my suspicion) or something else. I have no family history of high BP and have been cleared by a cardiologist as well with associated testing. I also have no history of high BP before I fell into the anxiety cycle over the summer due to a panic attack that lasted all day. Can you offer any advice in my situation? Thanks for all you do! PS sorry if you see this comment on another video I just figure I'd leave it here since the video is newer and more related to my question

Hi. Here is the response I left for you on another video. Please contact me if you have any questions. I believe we chatted on email, but I did not address the issuer I listed here. Hi. Yes, I talked to you over email but I am just seeing your comment here. You will want to extinguish the fear of taking your blood pressure at home. That will not be as challenging as extinguishing the anxiety when having it taken in a medical setting. If you practice taking it twice a day, maybe morning and afternoon, the anxiety overtime will go down. Do not try in anyway to calm yourself while taking it. It is almost better to feel anxious while taking it and let your brain learn on its own that you are fine. However, when we get in the habit of constant monitoring our health, we can develop health anxiety. So, this is a difficult situation, because you would need to practice taking your blood pressure to extinguish that fear, but that practice could possibly become a compulsion. If you notice that taking your blood pressure begins to lower your anxiety, then it has become a compulsion. I hope I didn’t confuse you. This is a tricky one.
