I'm wondering if we will need a stronger graphics card for Pimax Cristal Light? Currently I'm using 4070Ti Super and Pico Neo3 Link (via Display Port connection) and I'm upscaling picture in Steam VR from native 1920 to about 2880 pixels. Pimax Cristal Light will have native 2880 per eye, so I'm wondering if I keep in Steam VR 2880 will I get the same performance like on Pico Neo3 Link ?? Or do I still need to upscale the resolution to get a decent picture quality?

I just bought a Pimax5KSuper for $380 from someone off eBay. I missed having that large FOV. I got it modified with the deluxe audio headstrap and some more comfortable face cushions. It is good for me. I only have a 3090 card. I am interested in the Pimax Crystal Light. I noticed, on the website it says the Crystal Light has massive FOV, but it doesn't say exactly what it is...? Do you know how big the FOV is of the Crystal Light...?

it is tiny, like 105° or something. practically the same as all the other scuba-mask headsets on the market. ill be waiting for the 12k for sure, although the crystal super is supposed to come with 130°ish fov, might be a compromise, we will see end of year.

2080ti is similar to a rtx 3070 (and funny enough rtx 4070). the resolution of this is similar to 5k+ but with better lenses. would be looking at a 4080 super to run this thing though. however it would still run on a 2080ti.....you would just have to decrease the resolution a bit

I would just look towards a quest 3. the fov is more similar than you might think, quest 3 contrast is also excellent. and the quest 3 wireless is much more established. keep in mind streaming wireless requires A LOT MORE GRAPHICS POWER. you could buy a quest 3 and a crystal lite for less than just the crystal. or..... alternatively quest 3 with a 4080s is the same price as the crystal. and the quest 3 will look better than your 5k+ due to the much better lenses.

I wish more companies and consumers would understand that having a cable isn't actually bad at all! The pros of super high video quality definitely outweighs the cons in my opinion. I have had the Reverb G2 since release and the cable only bothered me the first week, after that I learned to navigate around the tethering without it ever taking away from the immersion... I just simply don't think about the cable anymore. So for me, having to recharge batteries, having lower image quality with streaming artifacts is really just not an option anymore... One day we will get to a point where standalone VR makes more sense. But so far, I haven't seen it. At least if you are looking for high quality PCVR.

Quest 3 with a good computer can look jaw dropping if the resolution is turned up. These pimax headsets are extremely higher resolution than the psvr 1. No jagged edges anymore, everything looks like it does on the monitor basically. Bigscreen beyond looks super sharp also. Quest 3 isn't as high but still way better than the psvr 1.

Unlike the Super I am hopeful that the light will be delivered successfully in due time as they aren't really adding any important crystal features while more or less removing some of them. They should do the same thing with the crystal super. A crystal super light. 🤔 actually what they should do is have crystal light and a crystal super light as the starting model(s). Then have add on options like eye tracking, face tracking, auto ipd, standalone chipsets and battery, wifi only chipset and battery, screen type, lazer grid sensor. All the mounting points built into the headset, then whatever to be added can be put on internally before being shipped. Maybe even just have one base headset and since the crystal super's design has interchangable screens with lenses can choose the crystal, crystal super with and without eye tracking, and crystal super micro qled screen with and without eye tracking, then all the other options.

Steam tracking using Valve knuckles controllers requires an optional faceplate, but if you mean compatible with Steam PC Games? Then yes, it's compatible.

For me no eye tracking is a deal breaker. IMO eye tracking will be more and more important as games become more demanding on the GPU and make use of the eye tracking feature. Not having to render the whole FOV on max resolution can go a long way to future proof your GPU. As for the other lost features I'm perfectly fine without them.

I have been studying all the details about these changes carefully because I need to replace my G2. However, I do 99% of my VR in DCS. You said in this video that DCS users should aim for the Crystal and not the Light. I would be really interested in you trialling the Light in DCS with a mid to low end GPU. PIMAX is announced it was also introducing a 2160x2160 mode with some form of upscaling. It would be good to review and compare this mode vs a G2.

Yeah it needs at or above Index FOV level IMO. I know most people live in a world of tunnel vision but I don't and prefer larger FOV, obviously massive FOV is costly but I think 130-150FOV needs to happen at or below these costs for VR to level up.

I was looking forward to this for DCS/MSFS but the lack of eye-tracking is a heavy disappointment and and extremely poor decision. Even RTX 4090 will struggle to achieve decent FPS in DCS/MSFS. This is in noway a good alternative to reverb G2 and I would argue that Q3 with 4090 will be a far better option especially for all other VR titles being untethered with the beautiful pancake lenses. Loving FO4 in VR. Heck, even the PSVR2 had eye-tracking! I would've rather paid a bit more for the added E/T. The Super on the other hand is really promising.

This with _wireless_ would be the real deal! Sitting in roomscale VR is completely killing immersion. It's like to choose a life in wheel chair. In two ours I will talk to Varjo about Reality Cloud for the Quest. That may be the real deal (for us industrial users) :)

The Light doesn't support wireless, though. There's no battery. That's kinda the whole point. If you want wireless, you have to go for the original Crystal.

Though, granted, original Crystal at a more reasonable price would be great. Imo, they should've never gone with XR2, and just made a solid VR headset that's outlet powered, and only uses battery when going wireless. Most of my VR is in DCS nowadays, so a wire doesn't really bother me (having to remember to charge batteries is annoying, though.) For roomscale games, I just use a Quest.

Absolutely agree. I am happy that I went for the Q3 + RTX 4090 which gets you the best of the Q3. I doubt the 4090 will struggle to achieve decent FPS in DCS/MSFS. Poor decision. I would've hoped a steam VR ecosystem with eye tracking. Heck even the PSVR has eye tracking!

@@mixedrealityTV I am aware of that and the reason why I didn't go for it is because of the silly battery design and the fact the untethered experience is pretty much useless without a powerful store like Meta store. I was hoping that a revised version with no battery nor standalone processor would've made a lot of sense for simmers (which what this product mainly targets) and eye tracking is an absolute necessity for next gen VR especially in swimming at this high resolution. It just makes no sense

An RTX 4070 Ti Super is fine for this headset as Pimax have tested it on an old RTX 3080 and it works OK on that so your GPU would be enough.

Pimax's claim to fame was unmatched FOV, they no longer seem interested in being that company that is pushing those boundaries, they have just become another headset company that is competing with incremental benefits to all other companies. I understand this is a good headset, but the whole point of PIMAX versus other manufacturers was that they were pushing tech with massive FOV which no other manufacturers were doing. It sounds like Pimax is realizing they'd rather just be another headset manufacturer that competes with resolution increases few years and it's not profitable nor easy to make large FOV so they gave up.

I'm an FOV snob with an 8KX, and the visuals of the Crystal changed my mind. I still want that wide FOV... badly! But clarity of the Crystal was so good that when I tried my 8KX again after using the Crystal for a while, at first I thought my 8KX was broken! That's how much of a night and day difference there was. Pimax is still pushing the boundaries. They're just different boundaries lately.

I keep seeing videos of people praising this headset and I agree it does sound amazing. But everywhere else (not the video maker) is saying that Pimax software is terrible, and it is missing eye tracking. I never own a Pimax but man it sucks hearing these things, and even I thought of buying one. It only took me 5 mins to instantly find people complaining how bad the software is. If I am spending $700+ on a headset, the software better work.

The software is very good now. Summertime tells you it sucks they either lie or tell you how it was in the beginning of Pimax. If you want eye tracking you can go for the original Crystal.

Out of Meta, Pimax and WMR, I'd say the Pimax is the on that works the most consistently for me. Granted, though, when I first got the Crystal, there were a lot trouble with it. Works mostly smooth nowadays.

No OLED, needs lighthouse faceplate, and lighthouses, $200+ for local dimming which is worse than OLED. Pass for me. Maybe a Simmer would want it.

Pimax is a joke. Never ever ever again will I buy anything from them. 6 months later they are selling an upgraded Crystal for half the price. Awesome.

@@khaledassaf6356 It is though. Missing out on DFR would suck but taking all that other garbage out is an upgrade. The biggest negatives (IMO) are obviously the size/weight, the cabling, and the cheap trashy controllers. This improves all of those negatives and charges half the price. I bout guarantee 95% of people that own a crystal (including myself) have never even turned that "standalone mode" on. This is just a slap in the face to anyone who spent $1600 or whatever it was on the original one.
