This stuff is deja vu with the crystal. Everything he's saying now they said when they release the Crystal and it took over a year. So I don't expect that thing to be out for another year. I'm talking about the super. They introduced things before they even got them working. I put my 99 cents to hold it but I don't expect to see it for at least a year. I can't even get the top strap for my crystal and that's a simple plastic head strap. 🤔🥺

It's marketing bait and switch i.e disingenuous. The features/functionality that should have existed from the beginning e.g not requiring a battery, are now presented as some new feature requiring yet another purchase. It's just another marketing ploy to sell another product variation in order to maintain cash flow while minimizing development expenses by a reductionist mentality.

The super is Q4, so almost a year. But considering the base is mostly Crystal, they had a prototype of the Super in CES that was built on the Crystals frame. They are constantly building on the same platform. Like they now have inside out tracking solved. So im not that skeptical, all they are doing is switching lenses & displays basically.

Sebastian -- I'm one of the ones who bought the G2 beacuse of you. Mine is a V1 (pre order) and still going strong, but I was on the fence with the Meta Pro or Quest 3, but I'm kinda glad I waited for the extra FOV and sweetspot along with FOV Rendering Pimax is offering. Definitely got my money's worth since 2020.

He says people who bought the 8KX expecting the trade-in program for the 12K will not be left behind. He assures us the 12K will eventually be released. But the trade-in program requires sending in your _functional_ 8KX. The longer it takes for the 12K to release, the fewer working 8KX headsets will still exist out in the wild. After years of service, mine is starting to fall apart. It's not going to last to the 12K release. I already consider the trade-in promise a write off. Pimax got me.

I still haven't received my second set of lenses that was PROMISED by PIMAX for the PRE-ORDER OF my CRYSTAL HEADSET! I did opt out of the 42 plastic PPD Lenses for the LARGER FOV Lenses for a lower price of what retail will cost but WHERE ARE THEY!!!!!!

@@GT1GT Yes and as you maybe have seen, the final version was just recently reviewed by KZbinrs including MRTV, which means they are ready, currently mass produced and will be shipped out to you asap. The wide FOV lenses went through numerous improvements, causing the initially unexpected delay.

makes sense with the 12k delays. 4090 runs 4kper eye VR just fine, but would probably struggle with 6k per eye. and it doesnt even have DP2.0. so there is simply no hardware on the market that could reasonably run the 12k today.

I wouldn't be happy with just local dimming QLED (like on my QP) even though in many cases it's much better than normal LCD it fails with additional bloom and doesn't really compare to OLED (not even old pentile OLED let alone uOLED). uOLED or nothing from here on out for me. I NEED that black level and contrast (without dimming zone glare) for my (mostly) dark gaming. Honestly, VR just doesn't 'feel' real without OLED (even old mura addled OLED feels more real to me than the latest high res pancaked LCD/QLED), the 'LCD FOG' just stops me wanting to use VR entirely. At @2:19:00 he has a point about local dimming being 'decent' for night sim racing, I found (on QP which I know has less dimming zones so has additional LD zone bloom which spreads over the lenses/entire screen as pancake glare) that you can't see detail in the cockpit at night, just the same LCD washout (but darker) lacking in fine shadow detail, which then distracts with the 'LCD FOG' effect in the lower part of your vision (unrealistic) over the track/window where the LD works better (more realistic). This is why only OLED works all round, every game light or dark. I'll also (and have many times) take black smear and even (mild) MURA over grey black LCD or LD bloom. It's an anomoly sure but it doesn't disconnect me from the scene in any tangible way unlike LCD grey blacks or LD bloom. Even my old DK2 felt more real than many modern HMDs and that had serious OLED issues! Only issue now with uOLED is size, in future hopefully they can get bigger/cheaper for better FOV. I'll take proper per pixel blacks over FOV though (so long as FOV is over ~105) The super with uOLED display is about the most desirable PCVR HMD out there (for now), better than beyond with its limitations from being overly downsized, but will wait for reviews to see if Pimax can pull it off this time. I would hope Valve are making something similar to the Super uOLED (also without standalone and with DP) but have a feeling they're going more the META route sadly. Been through 8 HMDs since my rift DK2 in 2014... and still hang onto my old Rift CV1 (seriously) even after selling my newer ones, some LCD some OLED, because OLED is that important to me. Finally - good interview and Sweviver is refreshingly honest/down to Earth compared to most VR salesmen in modern times.

Nobody know yet but they are using glass version of pancake lense to make bigger fov than normal pancake. Im a Bigscreen owner and it feels like big as Quest 3 so expect Pimax version gonna be even bigger. Of course its not gonna be bigger than pimax Super Qled version

The modular pimax crystal super QLED will have fov 130, said Sebastian, I think - although I can't find this information at pimax website. And since it is modular and can swap Micro-OLED on it, I don't see why they wouldnt make Micro-OLED with fov 130 except it's too expensive. Edit: At 1:58:03 they talk about micro oled fov and that it might be fov 100 with 4k per eye

@@directorscut4707 The Micro-OLED panels are much smaller than the QLED panels, so the FOV will be smaller due to lens geometry/physics. Pimax is probably aiming to make the Micro OLED competitive with the FOV of the Apple Vision Pro.

Based on Sweviver's response about the delay in the 12K QLED at 2:25 I'm done with Pimax, and will be selling my 8KX as soon as possible. A company that entices customers to purchase an earlier generation product with a promise to provide the next generation doesn't then spend it's resources on another product while complaining it is having problems delivering on it's promise. I was hesitant to purchase the 8KX, given Pimax's history, now there is no doubt.

You're quite mistaken. The 12K has actually been in development for years but is simply not finished as the engineers cannot finish the distortion profile to an acceptable level due to issues with integration of eye tracking, as it's 200 FOV which makes it very challenging at a technical level to produce a highly polished consumer product people will be satisfied with as a high end premium product. This is why the 12K is seemingly perpetually delayed, not because Pimax focused on other headsets. (Latest estimates are January 2025 that the 12K will make a public debut at CES). In addition, the 12K requires DP 2.1 GPU's with massive power such as an Nvidia RTX 5090, which won't release until late 2024/2025. This means even if there weren't technical problems finalising the 12K it would be pointless launching it anyway before 2025 as there aren't GPU's on the market powerful enough to run it. Knowing this, sensibly, Pimax produced the Crystal Super as an interim product before their flagship model, the 12K, is available.

The super has a high pixelrate 55ppd is like having a rokid max ppd. which is insane according to the fov. Now hoping a quest will achieve this in future headsets. Iam still waiting for 55ppd at a lower price. In time we will get there. Thank a lot for this amazing interview

The value of a micro oled would be reduced size, but due to interchangeability you don't get this. However future upgradability would be cool (if it eventually happens)

I would argue the value of the micro-OLED is in the ability to control brightness of each individual pixel all the way to off. Plus potentially it could be very bright if you aren't loosing 95-99% of the light through using the pancake polarized optical paths. E.g. apple vision pro has something like a 5000 nit source and is only 100 nits at your eyes. If pimax can get a less bouncy fewer polarisation steps path, it could be great. It will be hard for pancake optics to get brighter, e.g. if you need a potentially hot 15000 nits at source to get 300 nits at your eyes.

I think the USP for the micro-OLED version vs others like BSB, is obviously the resolution. You're going from 2.6k x 2.6k per eye to 4k per eye. That's a massive leap. So it really depends on whether you want to go for that higher resolution, but sacrifice the size and weight for it. However, a competitor on the horizon is Immersed Visor, which is also 4k per eye micro-OLED, but also extremely small and light, similar to BSB, and also with full MR + standalone Immersed app capability. So, it really remains to be seen whether Pimax's micro-OLED version is indeed something that people would choose in the face of this competition and others potentially launching soon like Samsung's upcoming headset. Personally I've ordered an Immersed Visor, but I'm extremely glad to see we have another 4K per eye micro-OLED headset alongside that. The more choice the better for us consumers. Really impressed with Pimax, but they still need to continue to reduce the size and weight, because the competition is getting fierce now as we move onto next gen form factor. This is all moving PCVR forward into the next gen.

Can't buy Crystal super for £1600 or so. I am new to VR never had any, I also don't have PC. When I order Crystal Light for around £700 I have plenty left for GPU and rest of PC with bit of saving. Not sure if eye tracking is so important in SimRacing as ACC. I play ACC on PS5 on TV so I probably can do without eyetracking. Immersion will be just something else, different world coming from TV. I don't play flight simulators. The question is what minimum GPU I will need to run it comfortably @ 1:19:00 answered...

Having 35ppd and 50ppd lense is much better for Super Qled headset. Resolution is already amazing so why you need 57ppd lense? 35ppd with bigger fov is smart choice. Apple uses 35ppd and its ridiculously sharp. Let us use 35ppd for bigger fov

There are two different PPD numbers, peak PPD and average PPD. The 50 & 57 are peak PPD. The 35ppd of Apple Vision Pro is average PPD. Apple Vision Pro has probably close to 57PPD peak PPD.

Oh! So it does. Hmm. In the past, Pimax has listed the highest resolution possible and the highest frame rate possible, but these were not possible together. So I wouldn't be surprised if Pimax was pulling that little trick again. But there's also a possibility that they could intend to use foveated transport to pull it off through DisplayPort 1.4. Or it could just be a false claim. Wouldn't be the first time for that either.

I am gonna give my last talk about the Pimax (I can because I have one!!!) The experiencie with the FOV is the only good thing you got it. But…But…is Haevy!!!!!! And for that reasion the headset almost take all you fronthead as a support (it is not like the bigscreem, sorry for the exemplo, that take just in front of your eyes and the nose) for this the headset come to be to worm (hot) and you get sweaty fast…I still have my Pimax because I still wait for the new headset suppost similar or the same bigscreem with large FOV at list 120 degree.

Dude, its a 24 hour world, as notes by MRTV being already 6am and midnight for SweViver in this video. They launched middle of day for north America (makes sense, probably largest market for them) while it was evening for Europe, and middle of the night for Asia. Another half baked pimax hardware. They're releasing them every half a year... and they cant support or finish anything at 100%.

They aren't releasing every 6 months though. The Crystal was out over a year ago and these new models won't realistically be available for most buyers for another 4-6 (light) to 10-12 (super) months, except in tiny quantities that might just make the claimed release dates. When they say available in Q3/Q4 2024 etc, that's just the first small production batch of 500. Expect to wait many more months after the first production run as thousands will order and supply won't meet demand.
