It's always so impressive to me that you put such a tremendous amount of energy into the boulder to smash it, but also so precisely that the covering just gently trembles when the shots go off. Job well done!

Hi Dave, Upper gully Lou here, always enjoying your vids. Does it shatter better with earth cover, or no difference.
@demolitiondavedrillandblastСағат бұрын
Probably better without cover because a lot of shock wave energy is dissipate into the cover, without cover a lot of the energy is reflected back into the rock as a tension wave.

Dave doing what he does best - rock didn't stand a chance :) (Is that stemming just regular fine gravel - assume so.)

Hi Dave, I watch everything you publish and watch the different Rock Removal tools you use. Watching this one I wondered whether you have drilled for blasting or wedges and tried using the excavator rock hammers into the holes instead? I am guessing that the drilling is the hard and time consuming part and therefore the bigger cost, but I wonder if you have ever tried?
@markmayer2029Сағат бұрын
I have a job doing exactly the same thing as Dave. I have tried it with mixed results. The pecker is generally in the 2 -3" range, Dave's borehole might be 1.5" (38 mm). With the tip of the pecker being blunt, you only get minor surface spalling. Faster with a hole than without, but still pretty slow. There used to be a tool available which was a round tapered driven 1 piece tool. Marginally better than the pecker, needed an additional jack hammer to drive as it is not compatible with a rotating rock drill. Explosives are my #1 go to, 2nd is the hydraulic rock splitter, 3rd Expando, 4th hydraulic breaker.
@demolitiondavedrillandblastСағат бұрын
Drilled with intention of blasting. I have on more than one occasion drilled a shot and then while I'm not on the job, some #%#@&^ operator thinks that now he has a chance and tries to stick the pick down every hole. you guessed the rock did not split and now every hole is ruined.
@muddlersworkshop3 сағат бұрын
Question? Is there a reason why you now pick up the shot dets and cord. I remember when I first started watching you it was all left.

Dave pretty amazing deposits of eroded (rounded) Granite boulders. I see in the cut bank lots of smaller pieces mixed with other strata. Your boulders look like giant dinosaur eggs that got buried and became fossils. If you want to turn that big dinosaur egg into a bunch of smaller eggs... Step 1 - Safety First Step 2 - Drill lots of holes properly spaced and correct depth Step 3 - Load holes with explosives and detonators Step 4 - Connect all detonators Step 5 - Stem and backfill Step 6 - Get way back Step 7 - Warning siren Step 8 - Initiate - push the 'button' Step 9 - Remove backfill Step 10 Remove smaller dinosaur eggs Cheers... 😵💫😵🥴
