Thanks for the comment, and I'm sure with your method you could end up with some good form, but the way I teach jumping which has worked perfectly for me and hundreds of other jumps is exactly what I stated: using the straightaway to get up to speed and focusing on the lean at the curve. Accelerating the last few steps is asking for trouble because it is extremely hard to accelerate consistently and, if you accelerate too slow or too fast, you have virtually no time to correct. Best of luck!

I enjoy your vids) They're really helpfull!! But it's also important, that they're quite easy to understand, so they're understandable. So, thank you a lot)

Kelly Rowe _Me too kelly. I was surprised about how it gave the training program_ _little time to see good results. After 2 weeks after its training, I_ _jumped higher quicker and can dunk easily. And now,I share it_ _to my team mates w/o hesitation cause it might helped us win_ _every game._

Absolutely, there are many ways to jump, but this method I've seen work better, and faster, than others over and over again. Sure, my best at a meet was 6'6" which was about as high as my body could take me. Some guys I jumped with in college were so naturally talented, I knew I could only go so far as a jumper so I started helping out other jumpers and coaching instead. Been a fun path ever since.

There are a lot of wrong ways to approach, but there's also a lot of right ways to approach. This is by all means correct, but it's about finding your comfort with one of the correct techniques. If you find yourself struggling to produce more height in you jump, try accelerating the whole way through the curve instead, that momentum build up to the take off will be a big help!

GB - I am learning a lot about high jump from your videos. Thank you for sharing. I am a father of an 8th grade boy competing in high jump and wish to convey your instruction to him. Do you have a favorite video or videos that make good examples of the points you make? Can you recommend any drills for him to practice? Here is a link to one of his jumps at 4'11"

My two highest high jumpers prefer to start their approach closer in rather than out in the traditional J approach. In other words they start directly even with the right side standard and make a quick J before they jump. I have had them try it both ways and they both do much better this way. Is this going to hinder their progress in the long run, or can they still become great jumpers this way? They both are in the 6 ft+ range right now.

Can't seem to enter a link to a video of his jump.

I jumped 6'9" at the NJCAA National outdoor championships, but my form was nowhere near what it should have been. I wish I would have really really worked on getting my form where it needed to be and I think I could have been around the 7foot mark.

Ah cool, if i convert my height its around 6'3". Ironically despite what i said about accelerating, I don't. My flaw is my lack of speed so i'm not as smooth as i other people. Anyway, i found regardless of the difference in technique the rest of the video and the others you posted were really helpful. A couple of questions though.. How important do you think it to use the arm when going over the bar? (another flaw) And have you ever come across anyone who's been too slow getting off of the flo

Please help me guys! I just started high jump and I am super worried for my zones playoffs. I jump off my left foot and the moment I try 1.30m my right knee pops and my groin stings with pain. I cone in at a really big angle and I think that might be the problem but please help me! How can I fix this to not happen???

Fair enough, its a bit much of me to say 'wrong'. I come from another country so probably a clash of high jump culture! :) Can i ask how high you jump or have jumped?

You can easily increase 2-4 inches in vertical jump in just 2 weeks by simply following the appropriate training method & have a great eating plan. My friend obtained 9 inches within 12 weeks and now he can 360 dunk with 2 hands.

unfortunately this guy is wrong. the 'straightaway' as he calls it is not to get up to speed. and the point of the curve is not just to lean. The last three strides should be a quick acceleration which is why practising really short three stride run ups is a good idea because ultimately the last three strides are the most important. without the extra acceleration on the last three strides you cannot get the perfect lean you want. Overall the approach should be 7,9 or 11 strides long typically a
