At first I wasn't a fan of the film, I didn't care about the characters, and it was just way too slow for me. But after thinking about it and rewatching it, I learned to actually love it. I think it's an excellent film that deals with raw and heavy themes about human nature. So far, it's one of the best films I've seen this year. I mean, A24 and Robert Pattinson just can do no wrong. :)

Haunting movie, especially for people who have experienced being a single parent. Let's be honest-- there's no exiting a black hole. The young girl probably knew that despite exuding hope. I struggled to find the light at the end.

I really liked movie, but I struggled to understand some events and ending. THat's why I'm here, trying to get a better understanding of ending and few other things.

Thanks for your review. I just watched it on Amazon Prime, and I am still trying to figure out the Ending. Yes, I understand (theoretically) what happened, but I would have liked more clarity. And, yes, you gave it a good review. I wish the Story had more clarity in places. But, the characters weren't 2-dimension nor boring, and they seemed 3-dimension to me with really understandable emotions, behaviors, and believable actions. Yet, I wish there were slower parts where there was some narration or explanation between the plot points. A few points really got me wide-eyed, but it'd have helped (maybe) to have a friend or something that the main character could bounce off his thoughts, which would spell-out things for the audience. Because it jumped a few places that were hard for me to see step-to-step, because I didn't realize who that was with him at the end for a little while. Even thought that they were having sex (maybe), wasn't sure a while, etc. That's some of the things that I would have worked on, if I was the director and during post production. Yet, I think it was a phenomenal movie -- just wish that it could have been an A+ for me instead of a B+ or A- (if that makes sense). I really, really liked it, but it would be a hard movie for me to love -- since I still don't know what happened at the end and at a few other plot points.

Okay, I know this video is like a year old, but I have to say that I actually liked the movie, but it feels like for a very specific reason. I personally felt like it was symbolic of the prison system or prison reform. As soon as society puts a label on someone, they are immediately reduced to less than human. The guy who was interviewed on the train admitted that they just wanted to get rid of them when he said it was all a lie and they were never coming back. People on earth think that they can just eliminate those who have been criminalized. Even on the ship, they treat each other terribly. There is no respect for anyone on there except for Monte and his daughter and Monte and Tchemy. That's why there is so much violence and rape; they don't respect each other's boundaries and constantly call each other "scum" and "thugs" not seeing each other as equal human beings. When society labels you has "lesser than" others, as well as yourself and others like you, will also start to believe that, and therefore, you begin to start making yourself fit into that narrative. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. :) I give it 3.5 stars out of 5, though, because there were some parts that felt confusing, that maybe if there was just some more backstory could've fixed.

I’ll have to give it another watch. First time through I was just so confused at the time line. I thought the performances were great I’ll just have to go back and rewatch to get the story as a whole

Yes, same here. That's why I am on this video, trying to figure out the ending. And, honestly, I wish that I could figure out what happened -- through most of it. Movie needed a little more narration. I sure thought it could have been great (read what I said above -- if you care). To me, I really liked it, but instead of A+ (which I like to give), I'd have to give it a A- or B+. It was almost there, but I just got lost and wondering (in some parts) what was actually happening.

@@PoeLemic - I watched it, didn't miss a single theme or plot point, picked up a couple of inconsistencies, and ended up thinking it was prettily framed rubbish. Poe Lemic. The ending did not really matter. Except to show that he was able to raise a child alone. In spite of the fact that he killed his friend. A child and a girl. What happened to them is not what the screen writers wanted to answer. Does your heart say they died or that they lived on?
