From what I read Orange's original plan was to just tell a story about Vash pre-July incident that could easily fit into either the original anime or manga continuity, but Nightow was like "No, you guys clearly love Trigun, why don't you put your own spin on it."

Eh, Knives is basically a PLANT Killmonger, Magneto, Marco Inaros, or Adam Taurus. He Talks a big game, but it is ultimately HIS pain, HIS anger, HIS GUILT, and HIS goals that matter. His own people are means to ends. He may think he's a hero, but he's a monster. Not for being different under the hood, but for being cruel, manipulative, and sadistic. A monster with due right to be angry, and understandable pain, but still a monster. Meanwhile, Vash MAY be too pacifist, but he is not ignorant of the price. He bears the scars that come from turning the other cheek.

My jaw dropped when I saw Vash’s new look, his hair looks dope as hell, and I love the purple colour scheme. Did you know that the purple colour represents the pain and betrayal Vash felt cause of what Knives did to him, Vash is red and Knives is blue. Knives tried to destroy Vash’s mind, therefore losing his colours, when Meyrl brought him back, he was still himself and overpower Knives but the feelings of hurt/betrayal are still there, hence the purple colours. Also at 6:28, funny you should say that Lupa, cause the English VA for Vash is Johnny Yong Bosch, who voices Nero in DMC!

While yes Knives makes a very sound argument he also never experienced other people besides those he controls, kills, or manipulate. He lives in constant fear, his choices are through the fear of what humans are capable of doing, because he's seen humanity at its worst. Vash has experienced different kinds of people, has lived life with them, seen the good in humans. He fights for them because he believes humans can change. Vash also has a terrible guilt complex from Nia, he doesn't believe he deserves peace. Both of the brothers, if not all the main casts are really complex, there is no such thing as good and evil. You can think of the brothers representing two extreme opposite ends of moral or ideas. I highly recommend the manga, it explain the complexities much better and flushes out a lot of the characters. Hopefully season too will give us more depth. Also love the reaction :)

What i think vash meant by "running" was that, Despite having to run for the entirety of whenever. He won't stop running for the human race. Giving them a chance, protecting them, doing right by them. Because he still holds faith and hope for humans. As a pacifist, he wants to protect everyone around him despite the scars he'll have. My general interpretation of that counter argument was that, he meant he won't stop protecting the humans. He'll endure the pain to make sure the human race and everyone else are safe.

Stampede is sort of a cross between prequel and retelling. It takes elements from the manga and introduces characters and conflicts that originally didn't happen until way into the story, but it takes them just far enough to tie into a sort of parallel version of the story from the OG. The problem with the original anime is that it came out when the manga was basically just getting started, so most of the actual story never got animated. And I imagine for this reboot they wanted to do something different and not just copy-paste the '98 version, hence the combination storytelling. When Stampede first came out, I admit I was still locked in nostalgia for the original, but it's honestly so much cleaner and more cohesive in storytelling, pacing, worldbuilding, etc. And the animation and music is incredible. Amazing show.

basically: og trigun manga came out, but it didnt get too far into the story. the og anime came out in1998 based on that manga and ended up with its own storyline (kinda like full metal vs brotherhood)... it did so well overseas that the author continued the manga (called trigun maximum) a ton of volumes. so the og anime isnt based on trigun maximum- but trigun stampede is. trigun stampede is like trigun maximum in a sort of modernized re-telling? theres a lot of changes, its not a straight adaptation- the manga/og anime is more of the western side of sci-fi western. stampede is more on the sci fi side.

Exactly, Even Vash knows himself that he is not right at the moment. That is why rather than say he will try to convince Humans, he instead says He will run till they inadvertently realize that peace is Possible without exploitation or death of either side. If he was sure of his choice he would have rather said something like he would convince them, but he didn’t He knows very well that he is talking out of his ass but if the minute chance that this could be done without the suffering of either side becoming any worse than this then he would willingly accept it. He like Knives/Nai doesn’t want to the Plants to suffer but he can also see that Humanity both guilty and innocent will die terribly if they didn’t have the Plants. Knives is obviously right here, because he hates his kind being used and exploited to their graves and choosing to create a perfect paradise isn’t wrong. But Vash doesn’t want Knives to use Murder and Mass Genocide to achieve his goal.

for all the people talking abt how half-baked or not thought out vash's ideals are, PLEASE read the manga. it makes a LOT more sense when you find out the true reason behind his ideals. it's not as strict as "all humans are good," and vash struggles with his own morals a LOT. it is a major plot point and leads to a really good character arc for him imo. i hope studio orange elaborates more on this in s2 because its my fave part of his character ❤

@@blackprotagonist that is part of it yes :) i think another major moment is when nai says vash doesn't "love" humanity, he just wants to make up for the crash. hes gaslighting vash in that moment, and he *is* wrong, but in some capacity, i believe his words hold truth. not fully, of course, since humanity makes vash who he is-- but in the manga it's not so clear cut as: vash loves humans and thinks they're incapable of doing/being wrong, vs vash secretly despises them. i think, personally, volumes 4-8, 13 + 14 of the manga offer sooo much insight into vash's morals + reasoning. edit: sorry for the longwinded answer! ofc this is all open to interpretation, and im trying not to spoil hehe

Stampede is a "prequel" to the original in regards to the July incident, the $$60 billion ("double dollars", not just regular "dollars"), and that new character - Milly Thompson. But some of the events and characters in Stampede actually took place in the original - AFTER the July incident. So it's kind of its own story/re-telling in a way. Of note, you see Vash's hair turn spiked. That's how it was the entire original series. I guess they're showing to the audience his "transitioning" into the OG Vash that we all know and love. And that clip of Vash running while he told Knives "I'll just keep running..." looked an AWFUL LOT like Vash running away from danger in the original series. My biggest hope with Stampede season 2 is that the "personality" of the original Vash returns. You have to see it to understand, but he was goofy and carefree, but kind hearted, empathetic, and helpful. He was still all of these things in Stampede, but Stampede almost made him seem quiet and depressed as opposed to the fun and lovable Vash we all originally fell in love with. I'm glad new viewers enjoyed it, though. I thought it was good/solid, but the nostalgia of the original is hard to beat (one of my top 5 anime all-time)

I have my own headcanon that the whole “plants need humans or they’ll explode” narrative is either made up or a half truth because their native planet’s atmosphere would have them living normally. It just makes no sense to me otherwise how plants even survived as a species before the humans swooped in. I get the whole “I’m not gonna let you murder innocent humans” argument but Vash seemed to have no intentions of liberating the plants and bugs who are very obviously getting the shorter end of the stick here. I hope we see human villains that prove Nai’s point, Vash needs to be radicalized lol.
@krytosis5663 ай бұрын
They didn't survive before humans. Humans MADE the Plants; though whether that design flaw was intentional or not, I don't think we know yet. Mechanically/biology-wise, it's easier to think of them as living nuclear plants; they need to be maintained, or they go out of control and destroy themselves.

Yes, it’s a prequel. -ish. A big thread throughout the whole OG Trigun is Vash being reviled for the “Destruction of July.” But they’ve also swapped and changed some timelines. Vash and Wolfwood didn’t appear to know each other beforehand in the OG- and Meryl was fascinated by Vash but similarly didn’t seem to have been acquainted with him beforehand… But they gave themselves a reason for that to have been the case if Vash now has amnesia.

I think in any other show else Vash's response may have been ok but here it feels infantile... as a plant that can hear other plants and knows that they can feel agony or cry out, when he says he'll run to avoid humans he's essentially just being plain selfish because he gives a solution that no other plant can use. The worst part is Vash isn't even half human, he's a plant with its soul. The fact that he loves to be free to make friends and protect them etc makes me wonder if he would be fine sitting in a tube giving energy till the day he dies or if his feelings towards humans are blinkered by the fact that deep down he thinks he can be one of them. Sadder still is that if Nai didn't fight for plants' freedom, Vash might have spent decades healing plants so they could be used longer and he would have been loved, and he would never think to ask the plants if they wanted to continue in that way.
