I love these bike stings. People risking their freedom over a $500 bike. It’s not like they are getting full suspensionspecialized bikes that are 10k a piece

I'm not from US. Just out of curiosity, why are the police spending their precious resources on bike sting operations? I would rather they do drugs sting. This is an old clip, so not sure if they are still doing that now
@evergreenrider8 ай бұрын
They absolutely, positively no longer have the funds, means, or man power to do that these days
@ivaneames43548 ай бұрын
I can think of four reasons. 1. If there is a n area where there have been a lot of bike thefts then that area has a problem with that type of crime they are trying to sort. 2. People who start with stealing bikes could move onto more serious offences so they want to give them a fright and hopefully stop that escalation before it happens. 3. They want to remind crooks that they never know if the police are watching or not so it's not worth taking the risk. 4. The bikes could be being stolen to sell for money to get drugs etc so the police may find something that alerts them to something more serious.

Seting up a bike all on its own at night, in plain sight, waiting for someone to steal it... that's entrapment. Totally not cool.

The police sting is great. Having said that, the police could put a sign on it, saying free, take it. And I wouldn't. Only way I'd take it is if they paid me to take it. And thats because it's a very cheap bicycle.

The bike sting seemed like a bit from Reno 911. If a bike is on a random sidewalk unlocked and unattended, it's anyone's bike at that point. Finder's keeper's.

@kdcomedymabry10328 ай бұрын
Wow, that’s entrapment at its finest. See there’s a difference of doing a sting where you lock up a bike and maybe sit and watch it to see if someone tries to take it. Now just riding up and Leaving a bike in an area where you know someone will get and take it. Come on. You left it there and unlocked. That’s just inviting someone to take it.
@broadclipcii40108 ай бұрын
Are you kidding me? Someone going out of their way to steal a bike is theft it doesn't matter if it was vulnerable
@kdcomedymabry10328 ай бұрын
@@broadclipcii4010 they definitely didn’t go out their way. Come on. It’s the same thing if you find money on the ground or as simple as a pen. If you take it, it’s stealing we know but if you just ride a bike in an area known for things to be taken and leave it unattended what do you think is going to happen. You can take that same bike in the nicest area and the same damn thing will happen. I’m a criminal justice major and most people who steal do it because of the opportunity being presented to them. Like leaving a door unlocked with your purse in the car. It doesn’t matter if it’s their first time doing it or a habitual thief. Now if you rode a bike into this area and chained it up and then watched over it and someone went over there and took bolt cutters to it, then yes. Now that’s is an actual theft and they went out of their way to get it. Cops should have better ideas and other crimes to work on instead of riding a damn bike in a known bad area where people are already struggling and just leaving an expensive bike unlocked for someone to take it. It’s a quick buck for an already corrupt city government. Ridiculous
