there is a "single" version of this. I don't know its name, but its used for pillars in construction. Three of them is ideal for listening from the couch. The also come in at least two different sizes. You glue them together, put some dampening on the bottom (like the material used under wooden floors to dampen vibration when walking. its tuned for low frequencies, sor perfect for stopping vibration to enter the floor. Also evens out the uneven surface of the concrete blocks)

Yep, I'm 67 and when I ride an escalator, I don't hold on to the hand rail, I don't hold on to the hand rail in an elevator either. I also go in the water directly after eating. And I have been known to use an electric toothbrush with the water running. If you really want to test the limits of your sanity, try running across black Georgia asphalt in mid August barefoot, but only after 2:00 pm. I'm probably one of the only humans on earth that can levitate a concrete block with a heart wrenching scream.

Use the half cinder blocks (8x8x8”)for a electric piano stand. 3 of them stacked “eye to the sky” for both ends of the piano. After pricing and looking at what was in the store, finding keyboard stands over priced and shaky, I bought 6 half blocks. Just put two on the floor, adjust until all of the feet on the keyboard are on the blocks, then stack on the other four blocks. A piano stand just the right height and as stable as a boulder.

Thanks for sharing this idea. I am already using stacked concrete blocks made for pavement (19 kg a piece with dimensions of 40 cm x 40 cm x 5 cm) bought from the local "home depot". Each stand is composed out of 11 slabs for a total weight of almost 210 kg. The Kef R3 mounted on these sound really good, significantly better than with the Atacama stands I was using before. As a tip, I would suggest experimenting with using spikes from the speakers directly on the concrete.

Here's what you do. Use some liquid nails (or similar) to bind the blocks together so the top one doesnt accidentally tip over. Padding on the bottom to protect the floors. Iron weights in the bottom hole to lower the centrr of gravity to further reduce the chance of tipping. You can even clad the outside in mdf to make it look nicer but i just had mine spray painted by friends

The best bargain I have found on speaker stands so far are the $54.00 each monoprice speaker stands. They come in 24 inches and 28 inches and are direct copies of stands that cost double the price because of the name.

If you want to dress them up, you can bag some sand and put it in the cavities to damp any resonances, then build a shell out of 1/2” mdf or finished plywood, and just slide it right over them.

i would have went a different route personally. you can get a single 2x6 a 1x8 and 1x12 and make 2 stands. you can also go w a 4x4 in place of the 2x as well. depending on size of the speaker you plan on putting on the stand buy the correct corresponding size wood. im building mine w a 4x4 a 1x8 and a 1x12. going to be super cheap and it will be solid wood not no bs.

You could get a cool looking fabric wall poster and just drape it over the top of the blocks. I can't decide if a Vinyl cover would work on concrete, but you could always paint them (tho concrete doesn't paint so well.) Computer Mouse pads make great speaker pads to isolate your bookshelf speakers and won't leave your wallet empty. You can buy 10, or 20 pack Computer Mouse pads and using contact cement make as thick of a pad you would like. hey also work well inside a speaker cabinet, far better than "polyfill". Use to line some or all of the interior walls of your cabinets. Foam will be more dampening than rubber type pads, but whatever you do, make sure foam or rubber you have is "flat" pieces to attach to the inside wall of your cabinet. No egg crate! Yes, losing a little space, but how much is a 1/4 foam pad actually going to take up?Again use contact cement to install but first play around with the pads, using double sided tape holding them to the interior of the cabinet. Now play some music AND TEST THEM before making them permanent! Great video, think I'm gonna get me some of those "high class" speaker stands soon! Thanks! ( but when you want to get REALLY serious about the location of your TOWER speakers or speakers in general, - shouldn't you really be hanging some speakers from the ceiling?) That's what the "professionals" do. plus it gives you more floor space (and maybe a rubber bumper or two so you don't bust your head open when you run into the speakers. Because you know you will. lol! :) thanks for the info and helping us out here in the real world still enjoy some quality music! Peace!

imo if you're going to use that much surface area under the driver, may as well buy a floor stander and get extra cabinet volume as well. For stand mounts, the stands should have only the smallest surface area you can get away with. Also, misleading thumbnail.

I think this is a great audiophile 'hack'. Not something I need, however well put together and I'm sure somebody will make use of this system as it makes so much sense. Let's be honest speaker stands are no magic bullet, they purely serve a purpose. Typically filling your speaker stands with sand will cost more than this set up and then of course there's way more expensive materials that can be used. Yup they are ugly, but can easily be hidden, painted I assume etc. Btw....I reckon there's no need to worry bout prices in US dollars if you're talking Canadian dollars. Just keep the continuity and peeps will quickly get the idea. And even when you you do try to convert there's no guarantee that prices will match one way or the other. I'd assume (coming from the other side of the world), that typically the US would have cheaper products. Geez shame our dollar so low these days....bring back parity or better. 😂
