I have a Lectric XP Step Thru 2.0 with its 20" wheels and upgraded the rear cluster to 11-34 (steep hill nearby) and then a 58T chainring. Even with 20" wheels, I am getting 28, 29, 30 MPH on the flat with with full battery, for at least five miles (and then I am about halfway thru my battery at 19A) - with the smaller diameter wheels, that is doing well. Your 26" or larger wheels do make a difference in top speed and that's what my commuter bike has (Luna mid-drive with 27AH battery). I chose the 58T as that was the largest I could find with a plastic pants protector on the chainring. I would go larger if I could find one with the protector. . In my youth, I had a racebike I could go 45 MPH on for short distances - 120 pedal RPM with 60T chainring and 13T rear on 27" wheels, so I am familiar with high bicycle speeds and how to get there. But I can't pedal at 120 RPM anymore, so ...

I have an engwe engine x here in the u.k and I've done a lot of upgrades including a 2 battery setup and balancer kit and I'm currently making a quick release dual pannier system. I did try the 56t litepro chain ring crankset but whilst this was great at speed, pulling away in 1st was a pain so I bought a 47t same as the original as you can simply swap out the rings without having to remove the crank arms. I did fit a 28/11 freewheel which was a great improvement and meant I could comfortably pedal to about 20mph without my legs going like hamsters wheel. The problem is I'm carrying quite a lot of weight and there's a lot of gradients where I live plus your not allowed to use a throttle so first gear pull away is so much better now and the pas soon kicks in. I've currently got seven assist levels which helps spread out the speed. I'm not a speed freak just a long distance cruiser. I have a kona mtb 27.5 with a Yose kit 350w which is better for day to day commuting.

Gearing is important , I bought a heavy non powered recumbent trike a couple of months ago , and looking at it with a 52 tooth crank sprocket on the buy day , i thought it would be a bit wimpy given its 20 inch drive wheel , as it turned out I was being way more optimistic that a heavily built trike and an old fat bastard could pull top gear at high speed , to be fair I could get it into top gear on the flat with no wind , but it was painful to the old knees , and I did not have the muscle to really spin fast. I will get a motor kit down the track, but I still think I will gear it down a bit for a couple of reasons. One , I like ludicrous speed , but ludicrous speed usually ends up with the coppers hassling ya. The second reason is , keeping the motor at nice rpm at a moderate cruising speed will put less load on the motor , hopefully allow it to run a bit cooler and be better for the driveline and the knees too. We all have to gear for our own use case.

Thank you for this great video!! I'm a guy who loves e-bikes, but wants to pedal. I almost never ride my current e-bike like a moped (just throttling along, burning through the battery charge). My current e-bike is a huge, cargo bike. It's awesome for running errands, grocery shopping, etc. ...a truly viable motor vehicle replacement. It's the SUV of e-bikes, but now I want a Corvette. :) So, I started looking into the Wired Freedom ...my potential Corvette of e-bikes. My immediate concern was the ghost peddling/hamster wheeling that I just knew would be a problem. I do not want to ride faster because I'm throttling around. I want to pedal along, assisting my motor and battery supply, at higher speeds (higher than my 750 watt cargo bike that tops out at about 24 mph). What you've done to this bike, here in this video, looks like EXACTLY what I want! When I asked my preferred bike shop about it (to make sure they'd be willing to do the work), they said they'd be happy to do it, BUT they warned me that such alterations aren't always doable. I'm not sure if they are thinking about possible issues with sensors (i.e. a torque sensor), or the controller, or what ...but they did share with me that they'd be happy to do the work, "if the bike can be altered in such a way". Well, it obviously can be because you did it and it looks like it runs beautifully, ideally in fact! So my question is: Does anything else have to be done, other than the chainring, freewheel, and perhaps a slightly longer chain? In other words, you did *not* need to get a different controller, or any different sensors, or wiring, or anything ...correct? And question #2: How much longer of a chain are you thinking would be just right? 2 additional links, or maybe 3? Any advice on that? Thanks again for this great video. The insight and answers you've already provided are exactly what I was searching for! I hope you're able to respond to my 2 questions. I'd sure appreciate it very much. Stay safe out there sir!
@maximumchargeEV Жыл бұрын
Nothing else needs to be done yes. As far as a longer chain. Im not sure on the exactly length extension, but the stock chain was good for everything except the 34tooth in the back with the 60 tooth chainring. In my later videos I also added two chainguards from aliexpress as the chain kept falling off during bumps. I couldn't find a 60 tooth chainring with the wide narrow pattern. So the guards are a must, Maybe a chain guide gluted on the controller would help too. I have links to all the parts in my newest videos. Good luck man!

The standard it came with was a 46t, 28-14 and yeah, it didn’t look pretty going fast. I too found out that I simply couldn’t get much more out of it safely, even downhill. The resistance was just too much on my large torso. I also got brakes that actioned from both sides of the disc, as stopping was woeful. Mine is a Coswheel T20. I’m unclear why they thought 46t was a good option upfront….

You need to be on a road if you are going to run 40 MPH. You will get every one with an E bike band from the trails. Please don't do this.

And don't tell us, me, why I have an ebike. Don't tell us we want to go fast. You make false justifications for breaking the law, endangering others and yourself. Show us pictures of you in the icu with traumatic brain injury.
