if anyone decides to do this job, definitely remove the plastic/rubber intake tube attached to the throttle body and remove the air filter. it will give you more space to make the job a lot easier
@d.pierce.6820Ай бұрын
I finished the job today, and the car runs fine. Let me add a few more tips to this excellent video: Maybe it wasn't clear, but you need a 17mm wrench to get the lower fuel line off the pump. As someone else said, loosen the fitting on the fuel rail when putting that fuel line back on, so you get the nut started straight, without cross-threading it-it should screw almost all the way on just by finger tightening-then tighten it up with the wrench, and then tighten the fitting you loosened at the fuel rail. These days, even though I'm a pretty good mechanic, I don't start any job like this before seeing if there is a YT video first-saves a lot of time and aggravation!

Thank you for making this video! That third bolt on the heat shield was tough to get at, but at least once cracked loose, all the bolts turned out by finger. It was nice to see how to remove the electrical plugs,too. I took my throttle body completely off to get more room to work-(just make sure not to drop anything into the manifold!)

Whenever ur dealing with high pressure fuel, u always have to find the fuel relay or fuse on ur fuel boxes and take it out and crank ur car until it dies out and won't start anymore.by doin that you will de pressurize the fuel system.never take out a part that has high pressure and remove.accident waiting to happen😬...after ur done with what ur fix is, then put back the fuse or relay located in ur fuse box and start ur car again till it recieves fuel and stays on.That pressurizes the fuel line again

This is the high pressure direct injection fuel system. Low pressure coming from the fuel pump is between 40 to 50 psi. The high pressure side after is what gets fed to the injectors, is supposed to be a minimum of 290 PSI in a maximum of 2735 PSI.

I have a small scanner and it says it's the fuel pressure regulator ( which GM now calls it high pressure pump, if I'm not wrong I think). Hey man, when piston in old pump is stuck like u show us, does that mean that pump is bad? I take out my pump no presure same code , and piston is completly stuck ?
@partsshooter3 жыл бұрын
There's a return spring literally on the pump, you can see the spring as it's exposed. Whatever component failed, was incapable of consistently supplying the high pressure required, I'm unsure as to specifically what, but it was within the high pressure pump. I relied on scan data from the pressure sensor to inform me that the pumps bad. I didn't question the data because of the accompanied driving abilities, it lacked power

I do have a question. And I apologize for the rant first. So I too am having issues with my vehicle same engine but it’s a 2014 impala. I brought it in to a shop (a friend of my brother in law) and they diagnosed it as being the high pressure fuel pump. Seems like I’d be able to do it myself. However, they said something about opening the manifold in order to clean out the injectors. Saying they are clogged. My car still starts and runs. But it goes into low engine power mode. I feel like if they were clogged the car wouldn’t start at all. He claims 5 hours of labor to open the manifold and clean it out and change the High pressure fuel pump and wants to charge $90 an hour. I’m just confused why he would have to open the manifold? Couldn’t we change the pump and put some fuel injection cleaner in?
@partsshooter3 жыл бұрын
Based on your car symptoms and what you're saying, what you're experiencing isn't gonna be "clogged injectors". I would take it elsewhere and pay the 1hr diagnostic fee to determine issue! Especially In your current state, I'll save you money. Long story short, the cars computer receives information it calculates to determine operation of components, anything out of specification will generate a check engine light. In your case, similar to this video, pressure feedback sensor doesn't provide proper tolerance, which caused the car to enter limp-home mode [reduce power] I go through diagnosing in this video... But there could be mechanical problems with your high pressure pump cam lobe. Odds are slim with adequate oil change history. Clogged injectors on this car will cause isolated misfires, as any other vehicle. As any other car, diagnosing requires code retrieval, clear and address immediate comebacks based on code setting criteria and symptoms.

On injector cleaning is a good idea. I’m gonna do it when I remove mine today. Not hard it’s just the plastic intake manifold which is very easy to come off and the injectors sit right on the block with (2) 13mm bolts holding them. However there is a cheaper easier way to clean them, sea foam in the gas tank. If u want to physically do it, you rock the rail back m forth do not just pull it str8 out. You will need a air line, a reducer , and sea foam to clean it. Also new o rings , because the injectors go they several hot and cold spells, once u remove the injectors the o rings will be torn, It may seem like a lot but it’s not. I rather do that than A rear main seal. And it shouldn’t take 5 hours 🤣 It’s more of a 2 hour things the MOST. Contact me for any help

No... The car did it twice to me and I took it into a good well known mechanic shop. On arrival to the shop .... The car engine light had went off and was running perfect. They called and told me they can't find anything wrong with the car, So I asked them if they could drive the car for a few days . They did ....and they put over 200 miles on it and still the car never did it again. The mechanic told me if he was to guess ...it was a malfunction with the high pressure fuel pump.... He told me that if the car does it again bring it back while its acting up. The car hasn't done it again and I've put over 2000 miles on it.
