The more I hear about the real criticisms of the critical text tradition, the more I found it backed by a field of scholarship that just says, "trust us, we are much smarter than you," while pretending that nothing in the ancient tradition is valid.

@TheMahayanist I understand enough about this tradition. I read a book in the subject that was recommended to me by a former pastor that had worked on Bible translation for the Wycliffe Bible society. But I don't know what you are talking about when you say the tradition is "All alexandrian". The Sinaiaticus and Vaticanus have never been materials tested to my knowledge, which is sketch. Also, if you read Church history, you find out that most of the worst behavior in corrupting doctrine, and coming up with monasteries, which were full of gnostics and homosexuals, began around the tradition with Alexandria. The fact that people don't take that into account when they rely on so-called "oldest and best" is a bit absurd. If you read on the subject, it is very clear that they assume that perfect collation work was done to produce those two manuscripts rather than assuming any changes to the text. But when you have majority text and text just receptus readings all over the earliest Christian writings, it's naive to think that the most reliable and earliest writers all had bad manuscripts, and then these two texts that are dated 100 to 200 years after them (if we just take them at their word) are better manuscripts. There is an extraordinary amount of bias in the field that is not offered up for discussion in most cases. Sounds like you're just the kind of person that accepts prevailing mainstream thinking... Or in other words, people saying "we're much smarter than you, just trust us".

The "ancient tradition" is not "ALL Alexandrian." As discussed in the interview with Dr. Maurice Robinson on this very channel, the readings from the quotations of the early Christians are all over the place, and neither the Western, Alexandrian, or Byzantine text type variants have a clear majority. Around Jerusalem and across the eastern Mediterranean coast, as well as throughout the Aegean region and Modern-day Turkey (Asia Minor, Cappadocia, etc.), Byzantine type variant predominate in the Greek and Syriac (in Syria) texts; around Alexandria and throughout Egypt and some of norther Africa, Alexandrian type variants predominate in the Greek and Coptic texts; in Rome, wider Italy, France, Spain, and western Northern Africa, Western readings predominate in the Greek and Latin texts. Something else that was mentioned is that, Interestingly, a study had been done on Origen's work on the Corinthian Correspondence, and it was discovered that a majority of the variants found therein were Byzantine type variants. And mind you, Origen lived circa AD 185-253. This means that the Byzantine text type family predates the Byzantine period itself and has independent attestation even back to the late second-early-mid third centuries. And Origen, though not technically a "Church Father" (seeing as, in the practice of said Church, that title is reserved for saints, and Origen was condemned as a heretic by a few Ecumenical Councils), was a prominent teacher of _many_ of the Church's saints, and was by no means a slouch when it came to scholarship, even text-critical scholarship. He may even be regarded as the first serious text-critical scholar, since he did a lot of work in that area when composing his Hexapla ("Sixfold"), which was the Old Testament in six versions, two in Hebrew (one in Hebrew, the other, Secunda, a Greek transliteration of the Hebrew, and thus giving witness to a version of the Hebrew text predating the Masoretic text), and the rest in Greek (a Septuagint version, and another translation each from Theodotion, Symmachus the Ebionite, and Aquila of Sinope), comparing them all word-for-word.

I love the idea of a Bible that gives percentages on variants. Thanks for pointing this out.

One example Mark 10:24, the critical text went with 0.3% of manuscripts, as opposed to 91.6%. "The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said unto them again, "Children, how difficult it is (for those who trust in riches) to enter the kingdom of God." The "for those who trust in riches" is supported by 91.6%, and left out in 0.3%, so the critical text leaves out "for those who trust in riches". . . Amazing!

Adam's translation is an absolutely fantastic resource both for Bible reading and study! I believe it's by far the best translation from the Byzantine/Majority Text avaiable. I'm using it as the base text for an edition I'm putting together which will have the Byzantine, Critical, TR, and other textual variants laid out side-by-side within the text as they have been translated into English. So far I've got the Gospel of Matthew completed and am really happy with the results! Mr. Boyd's work has veen invaluable to my project since he's made it completely open source.

I've studied NT:TC for 40 years. I believe in the Majority Text, however, the Lord showed me this. Take them a Bible based on NA, and the Byzantine, in their language, and they will have the bible, this is all they will know.

Hi Stephen and Adam. Do you know of a Vietnamese Bible translation that is based on Byzantine Text, or Majority Text, or Textus Receptus, and not influenced by the Critical Text? I have not found any, online or printed.

I am working on a translation with the KJV as the base text. I find that the CJB (Complete Jewish Bible) helps a lot on the Old Testament on the parts that are a bit harder to understand. The CJB often nails it.

Do you know if Adam has ever thought of doing or is planning to do a translation of the LXX? Or maybe just updating Brentons translation to modern English? The current LXX translations leave something to be desired in my opinion.

I see from the online version of the byzantine text that romans 8: 1 still has the second part of the verse that most versions omit. Does that mean there is not much of a difference between th byzantine and kjv?

Yes that’s right. The KJV aligns with the Byzantine text over 98% of the time.

The correct manuscript may be only one, while others may be thousands. Counting the number of manuscripts means nothing. The task is to determine the correct text. If the majority were right then the culture would be right and not what the Bible teaches.

I wonder if Adam Boyd's translation is gender neutral in certain verses such as Hebrews 2:9. Modern Bibles are gender neutral which affects doctrine.
@Adrian_Mason
@Adrian_Mason 7 ай бұрын
Last part of Heb 2:9 TCENT'22 says: "so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone." Which I would agree with, unless you want only men in heaven? There are apps that let you read Adam's work.
@dwashington1333
@dwashington1333 7 ай бұрын
That is the problem with gender neutral language it suggests that Christ did die for everyone who ever lived. Bible readers should know that Christ died for His sheep not the goats the children of Satan. Hebrews 2:9 in my Reformation Bibles says "every man" which is accurate with Christ's sheep being all men, the Jew, the Gentile, white man, black, yellow and red man not everyone but of all men. By the way, mankind refers to men and women. Try not to think only as a modern politically correct person only.

i was reading Justin Martyr's Dialog with Trypho the Jew, and i read him quoting the Mathew 5:44 like it reads in the KJV, with 13 important words missing in the Critical Text. i hate that Jesus is made out to be a liar in Jn. 7:1-10 by the thoroughly discredited Westcott & Hort text AKA the Critical Text, and because it's known to be bad, but still the one the regime wants used, it's given a few tweaks and the new translations claim to base their NT on "an Eclectic Text."
