Speed painting in its most "utilitarian" form serves the simple purpose of quickly bring a bunch of models to the gaming table but for me is mostly a study of what is really really essential to make a model/illustration work and look cool; speed itself becomes more like a nice sub product of this investigation that reveals how simplicity and a few clear key elements are often the best way to create a striking image! See you later at the premiere!!!

You just gotta try. Color harmonies/contrasts, tinting etc are all your friend that go a long way to make this work easily. Keyword easily. It is surprisingly simple and I feel that many people walk away from watching these after the final reveal feeling that, from the context of their miniature painting perspective it is hard because the end product is so good. But it is easy and you just need the gear (oils are not expensive, those USB airbrushes are a great place to start - but you can drybrush if you don't want to shell out for that) and a little practice.

I love painting minis in batches of 4-8 like you're doing now with these videos, for me it's the right balance of saving time with a good system and also not feeling burnt out on a particular single mini (or 40!)!

That's what makes Marco one of my faves KZbinr when it comes to speed painting. His paint job is not even all identical from one mini to another in the warband. They're all different but very coherent, while also maintaining high quality and efficiency workflow.

Another fantastic video and paint job! I love watching your videos; your final results are very similar to how I want my models to look, but you do it in half the time that I do. You explain why you're taking the steps that you do so well (and with a wonderfully cheerful enthusiasm). Combined with your videos on colour theory and painting techniques, I can (after watching the video a couple of times) just put the video on in the background while I work and just by listening to you talk, know what the model looks like in my head. I regularly go back to your Corvus Cabal video as I think that colour scheme is just beautiful. 💜

Hey Marco, at 1:58 you talk about this blue undercoat tricking your brain into seeing this paint job as having a cool temperature. With so many layers on the model, I'm not sure if that will actually show up, even subliminally. It would be interesting to see this effect side by side with a model that had a different undercoat but was painted in the same ways. Also, I think a troubleshooting video would be a great addition to your videos. Instead of "do this and your model will look great" something like "this is why you aren't getting the results that you want". I think this would be much appreciated by the community and it's not something anyone else has done. Thanks for the videos!

Marco, I'm curious: I've noticed that acrylic Gouache has pretty much replaced heavy body acrylics for finishing your miniatures recently. I've been thinking of picking up one or the other to add to my collection.

I've been meaning to ask, what PSI ranges do you usually work with on your airbrush? I'm trying to get better at using mine and I didn't want to hinder myself by using too high or too low a setting. Hey, Marco! I'm a big fan! I'm painting my cursed city game with your guides and they're turning out great. I wanted to ask you about the Molotov one4all paints. Are they primers? I was looking to use them but I can't find any information about them working like primer. do you use them over bare plastic and do they hold well?
@MarcoFrisoniNJM
@MarcoFrisoniNJM Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks a million man 🤩 super super appreciated!!! No, they are not technically primers, they are just really really tough graffiti paints. They are crazily opaque and mat and since they are made for graffiti, tags and mural art they are pretty resistant so I tend to use them as primer/first layer. But you can always prime with a more classic/dedicated product and then go over with their total opacity to establish a basic chromatic layer. Just remember to shake them really really well because I often see people working with the super saturated dirty water that sits on the top that obviously doesn't have all the properties! Ps: I love your channel 😊

Lovely colors! I really like the simple bases with a dark blue/green color. I was wondering @MarcoFrisoniNJM how you actually execute the oil was step when it comes to wiping with cotton tips. Do you paint all the models with oil washes fully before wiping it off? Or do you only do a couple of models at a time in this step? I just seems to me, that if you paint all the models with oil washes, more time than 15 minutes would have passed when you are done and ready to start wiping off oil paint :-)
@MarcoFrisoniNJM

I apply the wash on all the models before cleaning! The timing is relatively important and it changes the actual final look with a difference of hours, not minutes. What I check is the evaporation of the solvent; when the white spirit is dry (pretty quickly due to its volatile nature) I'm reading for cleaning

Contrast is hard on your brushes because it's so fluid it's almost impossible to avoid it going into the ferrule. That being said, if you rinse your brushes frequently and thoroughly while you are painting, I haven't noticed any extra damage. In the end I prefer the control a good brush gives me over the little more durability I would get if I don't use it.

I almost never use varnish! If I use it, it's for some kind of visual effect: make a detail more mat or powerfully glossy or for tricik with oils to change their spreading or adhesive properties

I looked up Molotow and a KZbin video said that iwata airbrush cleaner wasn’t strong enough to clean it out of the airbrush. Is this the case for you? The same guy said that he had to 99% ipa to clean his airbrush.

That's true, but only if you are silly enough to make the paint dry inside your cup 😅, thing that's never a good idea with any kind of paint! I usually use simple water between color changes of active paint and during the general work and a bit of cleaner at the end of the day 😉. The good part of that review is proving how tough dry Molotow are 😁

Doesn’t the metallic paint ruin your brushes?
@MarcoFrisoniNJM
@MarcoFrisoniNJM Жыл бұрын
It can do it if the metallic pigments are really big/low quality but modern acrylic formulations especially for modelling and miniatures don't really cause this issue (especially if you clean and maintain well your brushes)

I keep separate brushes for metalics, I don't let the particles get too far up the bristles, and I wash immediately in a separate water cup for metalics. I also keep a separate scrap brush for mixing metallics. If you let metallics dry on your brush, they can be removed with a good brush cleaner soap, mostly.

Thanks all, I've ruined several sable brushes with metallic paint. You would have thought I would have learnt the first time!

have you ever tried Maimeri Polycolor flat acrylic paint? I believe it's made in Italy you know Italy right? lol I would love to see a 3 color paint job using these paints. I bought Cyan Magenta Yellow black and white. Great price for the amount of paint you get and the paint seems to dry slower than say Liquitex heavy body. Give er a goo Marco and keep up[ the great work my man.
