I absolutely loved this episode. It is one of my favorites. Mark and the rest did an amazing job exploring the cost of this victory. I’m so glad that they resurrected at least one person, and I loved their reasoning and discussion about the ramifications of resurrection. It was just so good. This campaign has been such a great ride so far and I can’t wait to finally see the real Korak.

It's DnD.. Shit happens. In a campaign i've been playing recently my character turned out to be a pawn to the big boss guy and was a Doppelganger the whole time and all my backstory was pretty much gone. It took me hours to wrap my head around what happened but the plot twist was so incredible and I was super impressed with my DM and it was still the same character played in the same way except i could shapechange for free and I could do even more interesting RP! Always look on the bright side Katie! :D

Yeah but then your characters would be okay with it. I have some characters that legit would end their lives if they were reborn or permanently turned as a specific race. I have had a gm be incredibly angry when I had my character actually end their own lives after being resurrected by the party, into the only race that he couldnt handle. A dwarf, the race he hates with a pure passion, everyone is laughing and I just say, mc slits his own throat while tears fill his eyes

I'm so glad this behavior changed in Campaign 2. It's one thing to play characters that freely give what they have to help those less fortunate. I don't have an issue with this. I do have an issue with then complaining that they never have money to buy the things they need. You made a choice. Deal with the consequences. Or make sure your needs are covered first (like diamonds to raise dead) then give the excess. Good lord the hypocrisy is annoying and had Campaign 1 been my first introduction to HR, I would never have finished it or watched Campaign 2.

I'm not saying that Mark was wrong for including the side effects of the font, though I personally felt very uneasy watching after that point. As a DM, I've never felt comfortable indefinitely hijacking a fundamental part of a player's character, especially if its 'if you touch this thing, roll high or else' situation. It's sort of like killing off a big part of that character, but they can't roll a new one afterwards. You can tell Katie was very upset by this as well. This was overall an enjoyable episode, and I'm glad Cam brought back Cass (it would have seemed really out of character if he didn't insist), and I hope things work out for the party going forward.

There being serious consequences to interacting with such a dubious source of power doesn't seem problematic to me.

Secondly the font is massively more powerful then resurrection magic and it can de-age, cause full limb paralyzes, and even completely change ones race. (Wolf-Bear and Human-Tiefling) To be honest i feel like Katie got lucky. All those memories, centuries of memories, flooding her mind unchecked should have driven her mad.

I fully agree. Have you DMed/played Curse of Strahd yet? There is a point in the campaign where merely touching an item will give your character a flaw which makes them power-crazy - in a place where a ton of "devices" are standing around which promise you power (but failing a saving throw effectively kills the character), and even succeeding it has negative effects as well. It's about the dumbest thing I've seen in D&D yet, and unless one simply ignores the flaw it is basically a certain death scenario.

Especially since he described the font as basically trading a spell for a spell, luring her into a false sense of security. Huge character changes like that can feel like a character death, removing their identity. EDIT: Not to mention this is a character she had had for years and obviously really means a lot to her or she wouldn't of been crying. Felt really bad for her. A character death I can understand but changing a well established character like that at the click of finger without really feeling like you've done anything wrong is bad DMing. Sorry Mark, you're an amazing DM but that was a bad move. EDIT: And ESPECIALLY after defeating Feliania, the big bad evil you've been working towards for 2 years. yes but then again these are powerful magical artifact and in theory the transformation was beneficial i still don't understand why it was a bad thing. BUT that's not my call to make its not my character, im just saying i would have been pretty stoked to have something this unique and special happen to my character. The character i played for well over a year in my last campaign changed DRASTICALLY more psychologically than physically but i LOVE that it happened its made him such a more complex character because i had to adjust the personality and so some mannerisms of his being. Plus in the end what CANT be solved by magic ;)

The thing is starting a quest wasn't likely to happen with their plans to finish up with the campaign and move on to the next one. Being able to roll with things can be fun but it's not something everyone is able to do all the time. Sometimes there are lines that a character was never intended to cross and it becomes traumatic (a little stronger wording than I would like but the best fit I could think of) when you're thrust into those spaces. The player should at least be able to determine that for themselves and not told by other people how they should feel about it though.

1. Elora/Katie was upset because she WAS an elf. Her family were elves. She was so proud to be an elf and proud to unite the elves. Being an elf was her WHOLE identity. Imagine coming back to your family after a WAR, but them barely recognizing you. Not to mention she looks like Fellania. She has no duty to the Fei wild as a giant. 2. Jiutou wanted to respect Fellania because she's tbh just pitiful. She was diven mad out of grief and despair. Her dead body , described by mark himself, looked pathetic. Tearmarks streaked her face, a pain of a fallshard on her shoulders stayed with her for fifty years, she was no longer the happy, graceful royal she was. Not to mention she was DEAD. This doesn't justify anything she did but, it's definately tragic and sad she was driven to such evil measures. 3. Jiutou looting the body is fine. The two guys looting ALL the thousands of golds that could be used by talisval isn't. Plus, I asume it was a doting joke

cheonsuga in reality the money thing doesn’t matter all that much, of they give it to “Talis ‘val” it will all go to the council members but if they take it themselves and spend the money in the city it would go to the public and they would get equipment out of it. Not to mention the fact that they should be rewarded for almost single handedly preventing another lighfall.

To comment on 1 isn’t that the point? Her WHOLE identity is being an elf but she shouldn’t have to be and there is no reason that her race would change her dedication to the fey wild. People do come back changed after war, it happens and that is an amazing thing to roleplay. When a character loses everything that matters to them then they have to find themselves. She can still unite the elves and her family will still love her but Elora has to figure that out for herself and that’s a reeaalllyyy beautiful thing

Felania was a mass murderer, but has to be treated with respect. Cam committed manslaughter and Jiutou kept going on and on and on about it. Kim really doesn´t know what personality to give her character. Mostly it´s, this is good for the situation, even though it´s completely unlike my character to do so.

@@Blasted2Oblivion Polymorph & true Polymorph would both break when the target drops to 0 hp before the duration of the spell ends. True polymorph will become permanent if you concentrate for the full duration and dropping to 0 hp will not break it at that point

I like Nova a lot more than Jiuto. Kim definitely goes heavy on her rp but its not cause shes overplaying them, its just the characters themselves she plays are a bit too over the top. And Jiuto is just a bitch who has some stupid code of honor that she picks and chooses where it applies, thinks so little of Cam and Reynard who have done way more good than her overall and Cam has sacrificed so much and she's still like "better not be stealing anything" bitch even if he was he fucking deserves it. I like Nova so much more. She's so nice and its much nicer seeing Kim being a happy playful character instead of an edge lord. I feel bad for Katie, but luckily in d&d there's not really anything irreversible. And Kim shouldn't have in and out of character pushed her to do it when Katie in and out of character didn't want to. There's no issue with Mark though about a false sense of security. He set a DC, she didn't get high enough to think it might do that. Also Elora isn't racist because she's proud of her heritage and wants to be who she really is. I mean it definitely comes off as a little racist but shes not saying that only elves are good and all other races are shit (though the disgrace her family thing is iffy, but oh well Katie was upset) and another thing on why Jiuto sucks, she, a former slave, has a clear superiority complex and thinks everyone has to be managed like children when she should just shut up. Nova is way better. It makes me a bit annoyed at Kim but I dont think she realizes she made her character a fuckwit. I'm glad her new character matches her real personality

Yeah, I feel like she tried to make jiuto with the intention of using dry humor but also having a serious side. She obviously failed pretty hard on both of these, she comes across as spiteful for no other reason than to perpetuate a joke that died a while ago. Whenever she tries to be serious it's always super ham-fisted and inconsistant high-horsery bs. I enjoy Nova much more because she feels like a genuine person instead of a conduit for kims bs.

Agreed, I think that she's had so many opportunities for growth in this character but nope, still a stubborn disrespectful asshole with double standards most of the time. As Nova she's a lot better, but some things in the beginning of the campaign was a bit strange.
