So, one of the people at the Asylum, which is run by a LICH, was sent there because she said she saw the ghosts of her husband and son. I'm getting so sick of this "Don't be stupid. Ghosts don't exist." mentality of some of the characters in these horror one-shots that are still set in high fantasy worlds with dragons, elves, and magic-users who can bring people back from the dead.

CthulhuianBunny Well, that was the point. The halfling’s family was trying to get rid of her, so they said the ghosts weren’t real and not to listen to her?

just because something exists doesn't mean everyone KNOWS it exists. in small villages people may have heard of magic, but if they actually saw it happen they may form a mob to "BURN THE WITCH!" ghosts and undead may be considered folk tales, stories to frighten children into behaving, so if someone starts talking about seeing a ghost and talking to it, it makes sense that people would think the person is crazy. even in the real world, people believe in ghosts and most people think they are nuts.

I suspect it's less that the family didn't believe her, and more that they didn't want to deal with her. An older relative who keeps talking to her dead husband and child. Probably a huge hassle. Some families are just heartless enough to foist their elders into an institution, and her "hearing voices" made it easy to commit her.

Kim is a pretty good DM. Rhiannon is adorable. Trott is hilarious. Katie is desperately trying to control everyone. And Tom is not as funny as he thinks he is.
