Hey guys! Wow thanks for the video. My wife and I (Patricia Islas and Doug Bush) write the music and work with the group which is taught by a great staff and ran by Randall Nguyen and Lindsey Hartfelder. Every year we do 2 shows in the fall, one with the marching band and then a separate, stand still drumline show. It's a lot of music but it allows us to tailor both shows to what's appropriate for the students and the show.

You all and the team have done a phenomenal job. Great teaching, great playing, great program all around!

The maturity that this high school group has is just absolutely insane, especially coming from kids who haven't even passed adult hood yet! Cant wait to hear this years drumline show from Coppell!

now THIS is how you run a high school program. doug bush and patricia islas write the battery/front books respectively; their arranging is just on another level

I recommend watching their 2019 show! Not as intricate or dynamic as this one but def has some cooler and louder moments.

Dude, the first two movements are pure ASMR. ❤ The writing is incredible throughout and the maturity of sound achieved by the kids is crazy!

Doug Bush is one of the main battery guys there. I marched with him in 2000 with Madison Scouts. He was on top bass. He has done amazing work with this group. His wife works with the front ensemble. They are a force to be reckoned with!!

You totally need to have “Team Islas” on your show! (Doug and Patricia) Doug has a long history with DCI. He was the bass tech when I was marching snare at Southwind early/mid 2000s. His wife Patricia also was teaching the front ensemble at SW during those years. Doug marched top bass at Madison Scouts when they had 6 bass, UNT, and even had taught at Blue Knights. His approach to drumming is unbelievable and changed my young mind way back in the days.

Team Islas are the best in the game! I would argue they are the best writers and coordinators at the high school level in Dallas, maybe in the whole state of Texas. They made John Horn the best DL in Dallas years ago, and they have done the same with the move to Coppell!! Congrats

Some of the most high quality, everything, really from a high school percussion section I've seen in a long time. Even the production value of the video was able to match their level of play. Such a mature sounding group.

The first hand drum is a riq and the second is a kanjira. Both of Eastern in origin and require a different type of technique from any other hand drum found in western music including "Latin" hand drumming and music. They both fit in the category of frame drums with other western instruments like the tambourine and pandeiro (which is what I think Evan is trying to say) but are very much the other half of the frame drum category. They are similar to other frame drum instruments like the tar or daf.

Thanks for the info! So many awesome implements out there in the percussive world. I was trying to remember pandeiro but my brain hasn’t had to recall that in a while. Lol - Evan

I was at a competition with their drumline last saturday, and they played right before us, and it was insane. Just as good or better than this show. The highschool marchingband scene in North Texas is so insane! Coppell, Marcus, and Hebron all have such great drumlines.

congrats to Coppell for winning Lonestar, i recommend you guys look into some other TX high school groups, especially from the Austin area. Amazing stuff in TX for years that goes unnoticed

The composition is soo good. it must be nice to have enough members to have a varsity and JV drumline. it allows them to get kids that know their way around the drum/board. the only thing that I don't like about this is matched snares, but that is purely opinion.
@jordanmiller1759 Жыл бұрын
also, how tf did they find a snare player that can play a hand to hand like that
@hunteralexander9791 Жыл бұрын
@@jordanmiller1759 teach the snare players hand to hands just like you would teach bass drums to play hand to hands. With the touch that you need to play snare cleanly, you’d have a decent sense of rhythmic accuracy that could allow you to play bass drum if you wanted to and had the right educational support. There were some bass drums this past DCI season that were snare drummers such as the phantom top bass and troopers bass 2
