While I do agree with the main message of this comment that there is not a certain way that all gay people act, I would say that there is a high-chance he is gay for four reasons: 1. Kenny Ortega, the director of the film, wanted to make Ryan gay, but he did not think that Disney would allow it (to be fair, they probably wouldn't have). 2. I know this is more "fanon" then "canon," but have you seen "I Don't Dance" (I just really wanted to include this part, but that is not one of my main points)? 3. After "I Don't Dance," Chad and Ryan have switched clothes. While there was nothing on screen, it was heavily implied that they did something together in the sense of a romantic relationship. 4. In an interview from 2020 with Entertainment Weekly, Kenny Ortega confirmed that Ryan was gay and that he would have "probably ... come out in college" and that, "it was less about coming out and just more about letting his true colors come forward." I am not trying to argue against the point that lots of gay characters are portrayed in stereotypical ways (probably more feminine, theater kid, fashionable clothes, etc.), but I do think that Ryan was supposed to be a sort of representation for the LGBTQ+ population of the time. Sorry that the last line sounds stiff and that I am trying to praise Ryan or something, I just couldn't figure out the wording.
