They must struggle through social pressure and be rewarded with miracles and forget those little details that make the whole storyline even more improbable than it already is! 😁

"High School Musical" is the epitome of those cheesy movies that you loved as a kid, but only understood how goofy and hammy they really were when you were older. In fact, I was at gathering a few years ago, and my pals and I simply watched this movie the whole time. We had a blast just pointing out the inconsistencies and how nobody will really cares about cliques and "straying from the status quo" that much in real life.

I´m a girl that grew up with High School Musical. I mean those songs were and still are an anthem. I just like to add that it is not just about a kid that plays basketball but also wants to sing, it is so much more. Its like what you said, high school puts you in boxes always have always will, so the whole point of yes breaking the status quo and showing everyone that it is okey to like more than one thing, to BE more than one thing. That was what made HSM so monumental.

the issue wasn't having a good singing voice it was choosing to be in high school theater productions. those are two distinct things. theater kids get made fun of a LOT, especially the boys involved in it. plus its a really time-consuming thing to commit to so they genuinely fear his basketball playing will take a hit and they'll lose games which they understandably don't want at a school this obsessed with their sports teams. and i think if the team plays worse due to Troy, the other team members may lose out on possible scholarship opportunities by being on a team that's not impressive.

If you continue this series you NEED to address Gabriella and her manipulative, compulsive behavior. The trilogy tries to make Sharpay the villian but in reality Gabriella totally is, she abandons him in the second movie, she manipulates him into thinking she’ll attend prom with him and then refuses to return for prom in hsm3. Gabriella and Troy’s relationship was emotionally and mentally abusive!

Imma have to disagree. I think it does hold up. It's one of the few teen movies where the main character doesn't have to change or fake their whole self to fit in or get the popular person. The actual clique tropes are unrealistic but the movie itself is about teenagers being free to explore new interests while keeping the ones they already love. Also, they did this while avoiding the "friend trio that breaks up because two start dating or one likes to do something different one day a week".

It's only a classic because the people that hate this franchise have only seen the first film or pieces of it and whatever interest they had in the franchise died there. Thus they either don't know of the sequels or refuse to watch them fearing the cringe they'll endure like they had with the first film. 2 and 3 are objectively better than 1 but aren't given as much "love" as they deserve. 1 isn't a true "classic" like aliens but instead an "alright i'm done" film.

HSM sing alongs were a common occurrence in my drama class. I don't think anyone really loved HSM for the story or characters or anything, the songs are just so damn catchy that an entire generation and a half can't possibly forget it. The sing alongs really were my favourite part of being in that drama class. Especially on field trips. I have distinct memories of my class singing HSM very loudly out the windows of our bus as we drove through a populated city to see a play. We definitely disturbed some pedestrians xD

Can confirm. In 2006 I joined my high schools theater department. One of the coolest dudes in there was also on, funnily enough, the basketball team. And the school didn't go into a meltdown because he was a jock and a theater kid. While I certainly havent seen every show or movie ever, I can say that I have never seen a movie or show take place largely in a school that seemed...realistic. Cliques didn't exist the way movies and shows taught me they would...they were just groups of friends that had similar interests. And you could be part of multiple cliques. I didn't hang out with theater kids because I had to because of the rules, I hung out with them because they were my friends and we happened to have things to talk about because we had similar theater related interests...and I also had more traditional nerd friends into videogames, DnD, and anime. I can only speak for my high school life in my area where I went to school...but "labels" the way media makes it out to be just aren't a thing in HS. Nerds weren't a bunch of losers getting shoved into lockers, jocks weren't a bunch of jerky meat heads failing every class and picking on nerds, theater kids weren't ALL a bunch of method acting drama queen weirdos...100% of the time...ok so some stereotypes MIGHT be true, but thats neither here nor there :p. And I'm kinda tired of this old fashioned "everybody has to fit into this box and never leave" portrayal of high school. Give us a jock character playing Yugioh during lunch, show an attractive nerd dating a cheerleader, show a goth kid who knows how to smile, have one of the cool kids be poor and not mega rich and tey are popular because their nice and people naturally gravitate towards kind charismatic people instead of a rich jerk who's only personality trait is throwing parties every weekend in their parents beach front mansion.
