07.28.2020 | 7:40 PM | ANAHEIM - A high-speed crash into a pole left one person dead and another injured, Tuesday night.
The crash was reported on the southbound I-5 Freeway just south of Brookhurst Street around 7:40 PM.
When crews arrived on scene they located a black 2016 Chevrolet Malibu with two occupants that had crashed into a pole.
The driver of the vehicle was rushed to an area hospital for treatment while crews worked to free the passenger who was trapped in the wreckage.
After about 30 minutes of cutting away at the vehicle the passenger was freed but ultimately declared deceased on scene.
Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle traveling at over 100 MPH when it lost control and crashed into the pole.
The cause of the crash is under investigation and speed is being weighed as a potential factor.

JesicaLynn Kiblin Your son is blessed to have a mother that loves him and is deeply concerned about his welfare. Sadly many children do not have that. The best thing we can do as parents is show our children that we love them by teaching them values and setting good examples for them. Then we have to step back a little and trust them to make good decisions of their own. Don’t spend your days being so anxious that you and your son don’t enjoy every minute of his childhood because believe me they grow up so very very fast.

@@Cyrieus Oh okay that makes sense. That's so sad, what a horrible situation. I couldn't even imagine what the trapped person would be feeling in those moments leading up to being freed knowing they were going to bleed out and die. There was an accident similar to this that happened right by my house a few days ago that I would say almost looked worse, but luckily the passenger only lost a foot and the driver was okay (even though he was being incredibly reckless and deserved his foot to be severed instead of his passenger's). It's actually posted on this channel. The one in Oceanside where they wrapped around a tree. I was standing just out of view of the camera where a big crowd had gathered. When I got there I was relieved because I didn't see any yellow tarp. I always keep an eye out for that when passing by accidents.

Ya know it's truly scary and fascinating what our bodies are capable of... Like in this situation.. Could be the pressure of whatever the person's body part is against or pinned under Could be keeping them alive or from significant blood loss and more trauma.. But sadly it's like their lifeline as soon as that pressure is released, all bets are off unless Rescue can get instant pressure back on the injured area after extrication...

A frontal offset collision with a pole, at 100mph or higher, is a worst-case scenario from an automotive structural engineering standpoint. That the driver survived the deceleration g-forces involved is remarkable. Unfortunately for the passenger, given the nature of the pole, there simply wasn’t enough surface area for the energy management systems (crumple zones, passenger cell, etc.) to distribute and dissipate the enormous energy of the collision, which ensured substantial cabin intrusion. That it was an offset collision only made the problem worse (though there’s the outside possibility that the progressive failure of the safety cell on the passenger side, may have provided just enough progressive deceleration, along with localized cabin intrusion, to allow the driver to survive the crash). Ultimately, if you are driving at speeds of 100+ MPH, there’s a high probability that any collision will result in fatalities.

I was a medic for 24 years and have had this exact thought countless times. I retired at 43 from EMS due to the lack of compensation and just the general feeling of people not really giving a flying fuck about us. I worked 17months of the COVID19 response and lost 3 coworkers. We didn’t see a dime of hazardous duty pay from the federal government or the state. There is a national paramedic shortage right now, that is only getting worse. So people better step up or soon nobody is going to come when you call 911.

@@schmohawk4325 Thats interesting, I also work for the NHS in the UK as a Paramedic and feel exactly the same way! Our Ambulance service is also massively short of staff right now and for exactly the same reasons you talked about! Very poor pay and simply EXPECTED/REQUIRED to work through Covid19 (with virtually zero protection) like we're some kind of machine that is not going to get sick and die if we happen to catch it! Which of course many of us did! Many people and even politicians talked about us like it was 'OUR DUTY' to DIE from Covid19 if we worked for the NHS! It was our duty to sacrifice ourselves as Paramedics and NHS staff in general! But of course they would quickly change the subject when we asked to be PAID MORE FOR THE EXTRA RISK!! So yes I too am looking to leave the service as soon as posible because like you, I have also had about as much of the bullshit as I can take! Cheers.

Getting these people in to the hospitals is so tough. Especially when they’re so young. You hope and pray their mistakes don’t cost them or others their life. It’s devastating seeing the family grieve for them. Please stay safe people. It doesn’t just affect your life, it affects many others as well. 🙏🏼
