Crazy how poker has changed over the past 5-10 years. Now some NL 200 grinders are human computers and use solvers and in 2014 you guys were playing 50-100k with gut instincts. So glad u made this video Phil. 👍

Thanks for the great content, Phil! I'd love it if you considered spending a significant amount of time in these videos discussing game dynamics/meta. Who did you think the best player in the game was, who did people fear, who were you targeting, who were other people in the game targeting, who was shot taking, who was on a big heater/downswing, who seemed to be tilting, who was a crusher at another variant but behind the curve in this format etc. I think a lot of us are very interested in getting to know the players better, or at least your perceptions of them at the time and also now looking back. Yes, hand history reviews are very cool, but it's storytelling and characters that I think the poker community finds most captivating.

Even before this, there was once a moment where Phil Ivey was sitting by himself at a 300/600 HU table on FTP and Galfond sat with 100bb. On the very first hand, it goes raise, 3bet, call. Flop is 963 I beleive and they get it all in. Ivey turns over 99 and Galfond turns over a small set (obv). The board bricks and Galfond leaves. I cant find it anywhere anymore, but I remember reading about, watching a hand replay, and hearing Dwan mention on an episode of HSP once and I would love to hear Phil talk about dealing with that mentally.

I watched a video on this channel he talked about this hand. I think he said it was his first or one of first 300/600 games. Then he told he had later in another game vs Ivey, I think also 300/600, set over set and got immediately a message on his phone from Ivey "Top set is nice" something like that. And then got called by Ivey.

Here’s something I’ve always not understood about bluffing…in the king5 hand we don’t block hearts but only a few king high combos of hearts we lose to, so we’re bluffing the best hand if they have missed hearts?

I haven't played online in over 10 years, what are the percentages next to the screennames? I assumed initially that they were equities, but most of these hands didn't see showdown. Does software automatically compute ranges for you now?
@EthanBriggs Жыл бұрын
It looks like it's equities with hands not going to showdown probably assuming equity for a given range.

It’s equities, but for any non-shown hand, it gives them a range of 100% of hands. Not useful for actual analysis.

its funny to say "its 2014 players, were not that good" i literally remember watching 2014 podcasts with guests who played high stakes and them saying games are tougher, poker is dying etc. now its 2023 and we all wish we went back to 2014. when in 2014 we wish we went back to 2008. poker is fine and still great. just relax, play well, and enjoy the game. plenty of money to be made.

Don't really understand how Ivey has gotten this image as being such an aggressive player. I think it's undeserved. That's not how he actually plays in my opinion. Yes, he does battle for pots he is in and he does bluff occasionally. I think of him more as being on the bit nitty side and being a player that makes very few big mistakes. He might be the best at not paying off people's value bets. However i don't think of him as like a super agressive player. I'm not sure why so many people do
@Johnny-cz2wv Жыл бұрын
Yea agreed, just what we would call a solid reg nowadays. Image is just marketing. Made his millions with ownership of FTP and the Laliberte millions. And I can't help but thinking there might have been some cheating going on back in the days
