@6:00 It should also be noted that Dan's check-raise sizing is set perfectly to put Bobo's SPR at nearly .8/.9 should be call and go to the river. I'm not sure if this is just an automatic math thing that players do now so often that it's not worth noting, but whenever I'm in a pot with an opponent, and I see them size a bet or a raise for an amount that - if called - would put my SPR at a particular ratio to the pot for the next street, I usually take that as additional information as to the liklihood of nuts or bluff based on the times I've seen them do this in past pots where it went to showdown.
@nitthegrit7544Күн бұрын
@2:12 seems like at this stack depth, the 98 suiteds are going to show up in Bobo's range more often than A8's. Bobo's not going to want to collide with Jungle's range which is going to have the big A's a lot of the time.

Checking the turn is a mistake. If he has a straight he would will raise u on the flop.
@njerseydavidКүн бұрын
Not all the time. With no flush draw, raising the flop could be a good play, but calling and hoping Phil double barrels turn and even triple barrels river is also a good play. If you raise flop with a straight youre risking pushing out a made hand that you beat.

If villain raised the flop. Phil has to peel off one time so hes still calling.

Villain has 0 raises on the flop really. No flush draw, flop would be a call with a straight.
@Badbentham13 сағат бұрын
@@anthonycarreira8045 That is exactly the point: This is about the best board texture for a PF 3-better, where he can bet large with most of his range; at least in cash games. - Villain has no raises here.

I like how he played all streets except the river. I would’ve sized up a bit (66-75%) to get value from Ax on the river, villain’s hand was sort of face up considering how he played it. But obviously I’m not as good at poker lol

This is the reason I do have so much respect for you Phil. I met you in Vegas during WSOP after we had talked on RIO a fair amount. I had a journal thread going and was debating quitting my job for poker. You asked me some great questions I hadn’t asked myself yet. All in all I enjoyed my time at WSOP but quit trying to be a “pro” poker player and I’m glad I did. I’m much better off than I would have been. Thanks Phil!

Is the purpose of the turn raise to ensure you get max value if you hit your draw, or are there actually hands you think might fold to it as well?
@best79934 күн бұрын
Its a tough spot. Yee on this level people are probably capable of bluffing here. But on lower stakes i like just calling turn and then just folding river cuz they dont bluff so they have 0 folds and if u get there they donf fold either cuz of the stack to pot ratio so.
@reidb94224 күн бұрын
87s is value here for such a small raise all in. Sure you value own yourself sometimes vs his overpair region. But you also have straight equity still. You also block some small part of his value region with 88. You also unblock all his high card bluffs that bet fold. KTs/KQo/KQs/AQo/AQs/A5s/QTs/ATs/QJs without a flush draw.
@hornetguy90634 күн бұрын
@@reidb9422this is the answer. You never know when he just priced himself in on a flush draw, for example. Or makes an incorrect fold against your hand with something like AT, which is also nice. And TBH his value range is mostly overpairs, which Phil has okay equity against. Really, the way to summarize this is “I’m going to call a river getting this price on almost any card so I’ll just go all in now and hope you do something dumb like fold 10 outs”
@DynamicGracer4 күн бұрын
It’s to fold out equity and keep opponent from check folding a weaker hand on the river
@Badbentham3 күн бұрын
@@reidb9422Depends on how competent Villain is: His line (polarizing Flop bet, small Turn bet) makes not too much with two random Overs; at the very least, he is supposed to give up many of his unimproved bluffs , like the majority of AQo, on the Turn. - If he chose his Flop bet size, that is. So: Our fold equity / protection value could potentially be far lower than we tend to believe.

I don't think it's a bluff very often but i absolutely expect you can beat value not being results oriented but I think all the Aces up can do this if sets play that way i'd expect A4, A6, and A8 to as well. We chop sometimes. J8 is too thin to jam by him after taking this line IMO
