Havent finished the hand but I thing Charlie needs to understand his live read skill set doesn’t translate to literally everybody. He made his money playing large field small and medium stakes tournaments (several years ago) and in those fields I do think the type of strategies around table talk / etc will work. But there’s just no way they’re going to work on somebody like Antonius or Ivey especially. You’d think that’d be obvious but when you revolve your life around spirituality, which is in direct contrast with rationality and objectivity, that’s what happens I guess. Nothing inherently wrong with it just not a worldview I would bring into my financials

3:58 *laser stare* - Patrik Antonius circa 2019
@keithneill22959 ай бұрын
At 00.46 Carrrel makes his mistake. He says "Umm.." before betting asn announce that his bet is small. He knows Patrick is a good tell reader so Carrel is making a false weak tell to suggest that he is strong. Bluffers want to appear strong. So a deliberate "Umm..." is suggesting he is weak.... which means he is strong. But he isn't strong. He only has 84. When Carrel shoves on the river Antonius remembers that Carrel repped being strong preflop. So he probably thinks Carrel has AK or AQ and has totally missed. Hence his hero call with his pair of 6s. Carrel got himself into this mess by being too clever.
@falashlaba209 ай бұрын
I mean Carrell read it pretty good. He suspected Patrick was weak and shoving is right when you're tryna bully you're way to the pot. I don't think his play is to play, nor was his acting really... Patrick just did a sick call that very few could have done. So many hands had him beat. Risking your tournament on a pair of 6 is elite play. He's such a fun player to watch.

Tournament poker the hand is way less of a risky call. If this was a cash game it is a fold. Charlie does this with sets, two pair, and straight. The question then becomes is he over bluffing his range. Probably not because he is an online pro. So Patrick has to randomize his calling and folding. Solvers typically do this by suits.
@anawilliams1332Ай бұрын
thats simply not true, ICM only plays a factor in tournaments, so there arent any hands you should be folding in a cash game but calling in a tournament. are you talking about stackdepth with them being shorter?
@og1kanobi40Ай бұрын
I think Patrick gets a good read on Charlie.... at first, Charlie is holding his neck very gently.... with very little pressure. Once he goes all in... he sinks his jaw into his hand awkwardly and uncomfortably and darts a very nervous glance over at Patrik. I've seen lessor players do this same thing to a greater degree when they are uncomfortable, and they inevitably seem to be bluffing 90% of the time or at least semi bluffing when I have called them down or have seen them get called down. Charlie might want to work on that live tell or try not to bluff someone of Patrik's ilk next time!
